A line between tanking and losing has to be drawn somewhere.
-
I can wait for the house to be built, as long as there's a freshly poured sturdy foundation it's going up on Absolutely! He'd be first overall most years anyway! I'll take a 5th overall, but I think one of the two will be sporting blue and gold within a year
-
Do we need McDavid? No, and Pittsburgh doesn't need Crosby and Malkin. Chicago doesn't need Toews and Kane. I WANT McDavid

Hey Tank, Where do you think the sabres will finish in the standings this year?
-
Yeah exactly, I was even going to say that but wasn't 100% sure it was factual! By no means do I think there is a conspiracy going on, I was just pointing out that I didn't understand the Toronto conspiracy.
-
Valid points you made! I actually live nearby Winnipeg and only catch a couple games a year I watch as many as I can on TV. While you make a good point that they are in a but if not the toughest division, I think that they are too good to finish last. I'm expecting really good years from Schifele and Trouba, hopefully Kane can learn to play a team game too. Pavelec is a shaky goalie at the best of times but I think they will be out of the bottom 5.

Can someone explain to me how McDavid going to a Canadian market, or large market team is going to help the NHL? I don't get it... The teams in Canada don't need McDavid to sell tickets, we're sold out every game every night. A large market team is already selling out. It doesn't make sense to me. If ever there was a conspiracy theory of the NHL rigging the lottery or whatever the conspiracy is, wouldn't it consist of a team that is broke or not selling tickets? To, you know, attract people to make more money! If anyone here thinks Bettman is trying to get McDavid to Canada you could not be more wrong, Bettman would resign before a player like that went to a Canadian market. Toronto Maple Leafs basically carry the NHL and they haven't won a cup since 67. Now if McDavid went to Arizona and all of the sudden they sold out, now that would be a conspiracy theory

In my opinion, Islanders are a bottom 5 team. Not many teams got significantly worse this off-season, by that I mean fall to the bottom of the standings worse. However some of the bottom dwellers have taken quality steps in the right direction. Florida Panthers made a few, not so big name signings and appear to be poised to crawl from the bottom 5. In my mind they filled a few gaps this year and will be a 6-10 team. Edmonton Oilers have finally addressed some needs, look for them to make a push for the playoffs this year, yes I believe there time had come. Carolina Hurricanes are a 6-10 team right now but may be unloading some quality players so a potential bottom fiver could be in the making. Vancouver Canucks will be competing for a playoff spot this year and will not be a bottom 5 team by any means. Calgary Flames have taken a step in the right direction, I think the last will be close to the bottom again this year. Winnipeg Jets are a bubble team, there name does not belong in a conversation about who the Isles will finish ahead of. Nashville predators could be taken down a few pegs from where they finished last year, I don't follow them too much So I could be wrong. The point I'm trying to make here is the Isles don't have a very balanced roster, they have terrible possession numbers and did little to address any needs they had going into free agency. That's being said Reinhart and Strome could have a positive impact as soon as this year. I'm quite comfortable in saying that they will finish bottom 5 unless one of them has a Calder trophy year, and even then. P. S I wrote this on my phone so please save me the grief of pointing out spelling mistakes, I'm sure there are many

After reading through this entire thread, I'm really starting to wonder if some of the people here even watch the NHL or now what's going on. Pretty sad actually.

Yeah I laughed haha, Rookie GM. Definitely good at drafting though

Sorry Bennet fans, but we got our guy

On a note that nobody cares about, the 3rd round picks were Vancouvers 2015 3rd, and Anaheims 2014 3rd
-
Maybe some of Sam Reinharts hockey IQ will rub off on him
-
Detroit desperately needs right handed players, especially defenseman. If they can pick one or two up in free agency they will not even look at Myers. If they can't they will have to pony up the dough. Buffalo is rebuilding, they're not about to give away a young Calder winning D man because Detroit wants to keep all their prospects
-
Don't trade the kid unless it's an offer you can refuse! Trading him to a division team I would ask for more then I would a western conference team. If Detroit wants him, nothing less then a 2014 first round with Nyquist, or a 2015 first with Mantha. That's not where I would start negotiations, but like I said, divisional team will get him for nothing less

2014 Buffalo Sabres First Selection Discussion
Byebye replied to IKnowPhysics's topic in The Aud Club
I see where your coming from, unfortunately I live in Winnipeg so it wouldn't make sense for me to be a season ticket holders. However, as a die hard Sabres fan I feel as I am entitled to an opinion. While being butt puck last is no fun at all, especially when your Canadian and all your friends laugh that you would cheer for a last place American team. I find this more entertaining! How so? If we're going to miss the playoffs anyway, why not have the joy of being able to select some of, if not, the best young and upcoming guys. At least we have something to look forward to. -

From what I understand, Ho Sang has the skill of a top 5 pick but lack of size and often being caught "back checking like ovechkin" –Paul Nault, has him projected to go mid 1st to early 2nd round. -
NHL BOG adopts new draft lottery for 2015 - NHLPA must okay.
Byebye replied to PromoTheRobot's topic in The Aud Club
Do we really believe that? Two weeks ago this guy was saying the draft lottery wouldn't be changed! Telling us what we want to hear? Probably not, maybe he should tone it down a little though. Details weren't released for a reason I presume -

Trying to navigate through 95 pages of B.S that has little or nothing to do with the topic is quite irritating. Especially when your trying to do it on your phone. That being said, I realize this post has nothing to do with this topic! Fire me -
We still have a compliance buyout!

2014 Buffalo Sabres First Selection Discussion

1st Aaron ekblad 2nd(sabres) Sam Reinhart 3rd Sam Bennet 4th Micheal dal colle 5th draisaitl. I'm positive ekblad goes first, be it to Florida or whomever may acquires it. Sorry Bennet fans, Buffalo will take Sam Reinhart. The only way we don't draft Reinhart is if ekblad doesn't go first overall, then we take him -
Not that I think this will happen, but any scenario where Ekblad is available to us, I am in favor of. Could you imagine drafting 2 players that were granted exceptional player status in back to back years?
