  1. I like the analogy as well, but I see the point D4rk is making, and think that it may be premature to jetison the rough carpenters before the walls are up, the joists in place and the roof framed. Finish carpenters do there magic inside the house, and ours is still under construction. And it is eerily similar in that the players who were left loved Savard, especially Kane. But when they saw that Q could lead them, they bought in quickly. The Hawks made Denis a great offer and he showed a lot of class taking the high road.
  2. Source? Link? Positve test result? League suspension? I'm curious where this comes from.
  3. Interesting thought. The idea of drafting players, was and always will be about competitive balance. Without it most leagues couldn't survive. The big market big money organizations would get the majority of the top players year after year while the other teams effectively become the Washington Generals. A draft order to allow the worst teams an avenue to improve is in the leagues best interest. If this is morality play, then eliminate the draft altogether along with the salary cap. The league would be a historical footnote in 5 years. The cap and the draft are governors on the stupidity and shortsightedness of owners. They know it.
  4. No doubt. Cherry did a bit many moons ago, about the need for enforcers, and said that the owner in Detroit had to sit Gordie down and explain to him that he was not a ham and egger but a star like Richard. He said "we're different, I don't skate as pretty." Cherry went on to posit that had they let Howe continue to settle his own scores it would have set the bar for judging all superstar players. I disagree, but I found it interesting.
  5. Do you have a desktop archive of these? Too funny.
  6. I have no idea what your talking about with Murray/Nolan, but any coach good or bad would want to coach talented players. Except Nolan. Your perspective is being clouded by the tank. But we have no more inventory to sell cheaply. Player/prospect movement from here on out will be hockey moves. If Murray can address the starting goalie situation quickly, the Sabres will become a highly desirable gig.
  7. A GM must focus on the 25 guys on the active roster, and everyone else in the system to maintain the pipeline of talent. A coach stops at the active, roster. I imagine you could reorganize your scouting and player development, but I think the two roles should be separate.
  8. Risto is as good as you can expect. You can wish for more but right now he is exceeding reasonable expectations. He is the Xmas present you didn't ask for but can't imagine nit having gotten.
  9. Manlove for Risto!
  10. check the goal totals. We have the same guy but younger. Z hasnt played in a month
  11. I remember Butch Deadmarsh grabbing a Bruin during the Cashman Melee clean offnthe ice while never leaving the bench. He pulled I think Hodge off the ice over the boards into the Sabrez bench opened up a can of wuup ass and tossed him back on the ice. He nevernreceived a penalty during the game. We have Zemgus.
  12. The energy in the Aud was palpable. They used to allow smoking along the rails of the oranges and it was packed with people with seats chaining. Surreal. And Perreault was a magician. Tikonov was once asked if Wayne Gretzky was the greatest player he ever seen and he said no. Gilbert Perreault. God gave him things he didn't know he could.
  13. I got a ticket for being a good soldier in an ugly domestjc pissing match. It is the single greatest sporting event I have ever witnessed. I wentnto all 4 superbowls and the 74 Finals.
  14. Are you old enough to remember this? http://sabresfans.com/2011/06/21/sabres-vs-soviet-wings-january-4-1976/
  15. Then you are old enough to remember watching Gilbert Perreault.
  16. And I will also defend to the death your right to do so.
  17. i am not making this about whether the tank or anti tanker stance or some middle ground is correct, moral or otherwise. If fans, however misguided they maybe stop caring, then it really doesn't matter. The jags are what I am referring to. Nobody cares. My point about Gleason and the BN cabal is that what is going on right now is not novel, moral, immoral, right wrong, it simply is what it is. I may not agree with what you say, but I defend to the death your right to say it. To a lesser extent this is how I feel about fans, who btw paid the price of admission, to emote how they choose. The season is effectively over, the finish and the outcome are the only things that keep the interest for some. Tempest in a teapot. And for the record, I held my own monologue I the CHL thread during the game so as to respect those who wanted to comment in the gdt wo the usual downward spiral. Help this season find a nice hospice so it can spend its last days in peace and expire without too much pain.
  18. Not a fight. I don't think anyone intentionally went to the game to deride anyone. There was no malice afore thought to make a personal attack on Mike Weber or any other person. Anyone buying a ticket has the right to express their satisfaction or otherwise with the product on the ice. I do draw the line at hooliganism, endangering player safety or fellow patron safety and vulgarity. But cheering for what you may believe is in the best interest, whether founded or unfounded, of the team is well within their right. Would I have done it? No I would have watched from the comfort of home. But the local media is way off on the impact of this. I read through the national coverage and not many pundits found the idea unreasonable. Context is key. Greenberg, who I generally despise, made the point that under the current system, a true fan of the team would embrace any events that could turn losing into a gain, namely draft position. If the fans didn't care about the team in whatever way they define care, they would have gone to a movie or seen a band or whatever. Once people stop caring, the end is nigh. Places like this forum would go away.
  19. Bull ! Fans root for the laundry. The players come and go, the laundry is the only constant regardless of what color scheme it may take at any given time. Fans are the stewards of the passion for the laundry, and wanting the best players to wear it; wanting great achievement from those that don it is the value proposition that drives the business of pro sports. Lose the passion, brand loyalty or whatever you want to name it and the value goes away. For the investment you and other sth make, you could choose a myriad of other options with a better return. You make the commitment because of the passion to see not only quality execution but achievement at the highest level as measured by winning championships. If the fans are maintaining that passion at the expense of the current renters of the laundry, so be it. The hope for the future and the fact that they still care, should be lauded not criticized. Buy a lemon from ford, and chances are you won't buy another. Yet Sabres fans have been given lemons for the vast majority of the franchise's history and yet the passion is still there. Someone finally acknowledges the value in that, takes steps to reward it, and publicly acknowledges that the goal is to ensure that passion and loyalty is rewarded consistently for the foreseeable future and the local meatheads see there sheltered parochial worldview imploding. em! There are no guarantees but I will grab hold of the rope and pull because we're pulling in the right direction. Lead, follow or get the out of the way! This is not aimed at you Eleven. Just a visceral reaction to this idea that we need to temper whatever emotions we have about the current state of affairs to bow to some etiquette that does not and never has any valid reason for existence.
