Actually it does. Adding Stamkos is nothing but cap hit. You lose no prospects, picks or roster players. Immediately you make your team better with no subtraction. He, or someone like him (who is not available) instantly transforms your team. It makes you a potential destination for a vet looking for a ring and allows you to manage prospects to either bolster your d or develop them to take the place of cap casualties down the road. I think if your are trying to transform the identity of the franchise a cap hit is the least painful way to do it. I also am not on the Stamkos bandwagon, but I think there is a sound argument for acquiring a player of his ilk.

No. You are correct that Kessel isnt the highest paid player. But the move to acquire the 3 puts their ability to retain their players as constituted in jeopardy. Malkin trade rumours. Letang. But right now the fan base doesn't care. Win game 3 then 4. Then worry about the rest.

Stamkos would immediately upgrade the position vacated by Pavel. They would not need a rebuild and would be in a great position to win the division year over year.

Not really. I just have seen Barrie make the same head scratching bonehead moves that seem to cause the angst directed toward Bogo. We are in the Myers situation again. One team has determined that a player isn't going to reach his potential and is willing to part ways, and the other team thinks it can fix him. Barrie is very talented, but he has downside as well and Bogo has a baseline that I can live with. Trading an 8 for him plus roster players and prospects is too rich for my blood and doesn't really advance the team all that much. Jmho and I am an eye test first guy.

" That is a competitor saying bring it on, I got this. Adding another star only increases his chances of success. I am not against signing Stamkos, if it fits money wise over the long haul. I just want to increase our offensive production, i.e. goals, whether from the blue line or up front. Forcing the opposition into a defense first mentality gives us an advantage we dont currently have. Most teams knew we had players but they weren't wooried about getting blown out. I want every team worried about getting into a track meet against us. I truly think this is Dallas' approach and think it would have worked with better goaltending.
