Maybe that is part of the issue. Lines go through slumps as do players. Id like to see a more balanced top two lines and have them stay together for a couple of games to see if the come together. Sam -Eichel-KO Pouliot-ROR-Kane Fasching-ERod-Girgs Cannon Fodder

The talent is there. Its the drive that is missing. Kane, Eichel, ROR, Okposo, place a couple of big bodies like Fasching with those four and there you go. Maybe put ERod in there. The talent was gone during the tank but the motivation never came back. I think what we lack is bottom 6 talent to round everything out. A couple of guys who can play some minutes, contribute to the PK, and when needed jump up a line. I didn't add Sam because I don't think he has found his role. Probably because he bounces all over the roster.

I think sometimes you have to take a chance on whether a player is just bad or needs a change of scenery. I wouldn't say we have a bad group of DMen. The team has talent but has not been able to put it together. Is this because of coaching or player's lack of enthusiasm? Who knows. Risto, McCabe, Bogo I do think are top four with Antipin coming along. We have a couple who are third pairing worthy. I think McCabe and Risto are both capable of 1st pair responsibilities but much like Jack on the offense, Risto is not playing to his ability. Bottom line is what we have on paper does not match on ice results. Is this just one of those seasons or something else? Again, who knows.

I have a feeling this is going to determine if he stays and Kane goes or the other way around. Possible this is being done to make Sam look better to up his value. If he succeeds on Jack's wing, will it be because it is the right fit for him or is it because Jack and Kane will make him look better? Kind of like Moulson when he was in N.Y.

Good question. Heres the thing, if the team as a whole is underperforming does it make sense that he is not living up to expectations either. I wonder if the Sabres were doing as well as expected would Sam or anyone else for that matter be doing better too? Now if the team was doing well but he was one of a few not performing then it makes JBot's decision easy. Right now he is a black sheep on a black sheep team. Instead of standing out for lackluster performance, he fits in.

Anyone tracking ice time so far? I am interested to see where our third and fourth lines are at. Reason being is I wonder how feasible it would be to only play the top six along with one or two others for the third period.

Who is going to start the Eichel trade thread? Just saying it's not like he is trying. Let him throw tantrums somewhere else with his way too big contract. When Sid and Ovi came into the league they didn't lolly gag after two seasons and look at their stats. Eichel was supposed to be some generational player but he is unable to play to that level. He was a flash in the pan and it's clear all you need to do is close space on him to defend. There is no more and there never will be any compartisons to McDavid or Matthews. They are light years ahead in talent and drive.

When does Eichel show passion? He was overhyped and skates around doing nothing. Didn't see McDavid do that. Risto sucks no matter how you look at it but it seems these to still get a pass for being a flash in the pan. We all know sometimes talented players in every sport can't transition to the big league or at least not to the extent thought. I would not be surprised if Eichel's deal isn't a negative topic of discussion in three years.

Just saw the move Sid put on Eichel in the DZone. Package Risto and Eichel. Both clearly have no compete, we're way over hyped, and do not make this team any better.

Not sure but in those days dmen didn't really activate which cuts down on scoring chances. Sabres specific I am thinking something in the eighties but my motivation to check is on par with Eichel's game time motivation.

Blackhawks had an 8 game scoreless streak in the 1928-29 season. I think we have the talent to beat that.
