He is signed through 17-18. Next year we will be a bottom 10 team. The following year MAYBE competing for a playoff spot. The 3rd year (his final year) IF all goes well we should be a solid top 10 team. Then he is a FA. If he is as good as Murray says then we will be giving him huge money or he may decide to go elsewhere. My opinion - this team is so far in the shitter that we can't hold on to an asset like Myers for what MAY BE in 2-3 years. We need more offensive talent - period. We can prospect dream all day but their isn't crap in Rochester and regardless of what people want to believe you can't mortgage your future on a bunch of guys in juniors.

Problem with hiring "the next great coach " is for every first time coach that becomes great there are 20 that get fired and go back to being a coordinator or college coach. I totally get what your saying but if I am Pegula I do the same exact thing. From an organization standpoint this is both the safer and popular pick. Again, don't underestimate the message it sends to the players.

This is a great hire. This team did not need to go out and hire a first time HC. Just to many unknowns and this team is too close to being a playoff team to roll the dice with that. Players run through walls for Ryan. The minute he walks in that room he will have the players respect. Coaches like Reich, Quinn, Bevell etc. will be earning the players respect as they go. We don't have time for that. Great hire and shows this ownership is different.

After the game was over I watched the post game interviews on the local feed. They first interviewed Druin and then Stamkos. Both wearing t-shirts. It was amazing the difference in a 19 year old and 24 year old body. Druin was still a kid - Stamkos a man. Since Stamkos was drafted he must have put on 15-25lbs of muscle. When I saw him i thought of Samson and how its just going to take time.

And this is why I think trading Myers is not a matter of if but when. With Pysyk and McCabe in the pipeline we have to turn the asset of Myers into offensive help. Most didn't like the proposal that included Tatar but we are so limited offensively that a move similar to this will be imperative. If you don't want to move Myers then you will see something along the lines of Pysyk, prospect, and one of the late #1's for a NHL ready winger that can score.

Good post. The only way this team is playing winning hockey within two years is if Murray is aggressive with turning a good amount of these prospects/picks into NHL ready players. Don't fall in love with anybody on this team or in the system. Murray has a lot of work to do. He has the resources but the question will be will he have the balls to make some moves that will not be very popular when he makes them. This draft and our draft position is everything. McEichle is a no brainer but that is the slam dunk. Any GM can fill out that draft card. If Murray sits on his hands this draft and just picks players I will be worried and think he is not the man for this job. He needs to be creative and make deals.

The Oilers looked very good last night. They were playing at a speed that we are not capable of playing at. They should have much better second half of the season.

Of all these guys it would not surprise me in the least if they walk away from this as Rex as their guy. Pretty sure he gives a very good, confident interview. Rex will have a few choices though and I don't think we would be his first.

That is injury prone in my book. So if he misses 26% due to injury and he plays like "Calder " Myers in 2/3rds of the remaining 74% we get a player who can be counted on 50% of the time. THIS is why every year since his rookie year we continue to say "Myers showed glimpses of his potential" blah blah blah. If he is our top pairing dman for the future we are in trouble. Actually, a better way to put it is we will continue to be what we are. Terrible!!

I do admire that about Tank. He can dish it out but also can take it when it is slung at him.

Other than a 12 game or so stretch this year I think it is safe to say they have pretty much sucked with him as well. You get rid of the clowns known as Balls, Mess, and Weber and you add some quality dmen then you wouldn't notice it as much w/o Myers. This is as much about lack of depth that it is how good Myers is.

Good point regarding injuries. My feeling is I probably want him on the Sabres team I hope to envision in 2-3 years. Problem is trading him for offensive assets is one of the ways to get to that team I want. Regardless of our prospects potential we need players that are proven NHL scorers. Unfortunately that will probably come at the expense of Myers. This is not a knock on Myers just the reality of what Murray is up against. With McCabe, Pysyk, a player most likely coming back in trade, and probably one first round dman in this coming draft it makes Myers somewhat expendable to get what we need.

Trust me I hope your beliefs are right. Because if so Murray will find himself in a major bidding war. Not very often top pairing dmen become available. I don't think it will be the case but you never know.

Tatar is a top 6 winger. Has 16 goals and 29 pts. Do we have any of those currently on our roster? Myers is a top 4 dman with a history of ridiculous inconsistancy. I don't think that particular trade is that far off base.

So if you put a $100 on Buffalo every game this year would you be up money? Probably not but they had some crazy money lines that they hit on.
