  1. They didn't cheat.
  2. I think they spend a decent amount of the offseason trying to unload Gourde, Palat and Johnson. If they accomplish that and don't take on salary they should be fine. I don't think losing those three significantly impacts their place as the Cup favorite either.
  3. The fix is simple for me: pick a number of games a player is on LTIR during the season. If they miss that many games and a team takes advantage of LTIR to secure cap relief for that player then that player is not eligible for the postseason. Simple enough. So if a Kucherov situation arises the team has a decision to make between cap relief or having that player in the postseason. Yea, let's get to a REAL franchise like the Buffalo Sabres.
  4. Oh there is certainly a good portion of outrage. Or angst. Or some form of it. It’s why we hear about it constantly.
  5. If he projected to be a 90 point first line center he would’ve been the runaway first overall pick. I, too, believe Rossi is, was and will be the better prospect. I would’ve preferred him in the draft but I’m not going to center my outrage on the pick until there’s meaningful evidence (which will take several years) because it’s useless and out of our control now.
  6. Thankfully prospects and their development are a straight line so we can say things like “Rossi is what Rossi was always going to be.”
  7. Quinn, Rossi, impartial judgement, the ides of March. Fingers crossed the premature outrage is misguided and incorrect. For our sake.
  8. Ventura showing up to the Sabres to trade away Risto.
  9. To your first part: trades down, especially from one, are so massively rare. To the second: I don’t know the story. I do remember Tim Murray trying his hardest to trade up for Dylan Larkin but one of the teams (Columbus?) he was speaking to had someone fall to them.
  10. I think there’s a decent chance they’re working hard to increase his value I don’t think this has anything to do with the draft/Power
  11. Toilet Paper does indeed love sh!t
  12. This is a day old but I hadn’t seen it posted anywhere. Dreger was discussing players that are available on the Sabres and mentioned the team hopes to keep Risto. “Now, there are other pieces Buffalo would consider moving as well. You’re talking about Ristolainen. You’re talking about Sam Reinhart. I think they would prefer to keep Ristolainen unless the deal is too sweet to turn away from.” https://nhlrumors.com/nhl-rumors-chicago-blackhawks-edmonton-oilers-and-the-buffalo-sabres/2021/07/06/ How does this make you feel?
  13. Hence “throw short-term money at.” They’re not going to want to be here but if you pay them then you never know what the response will be or what they hope to get out of free agency.
  14. Can we stop bailing on Jack Quinn because of a guy who has never set foot in NHL ice? I get it. The perception is bad and the Sabres never do the right thing but we have no clue. If Quinn is as good as or better than Rossi everyone who ***** on him better get Jack Quinn face tattoos.
  15. https://theathletic.com/2690216/2021/07/07/is-this-the-nhls-summer-of-the-blockbuster-here-are-5-stars-who-could-be-traded/ Some league-wide speculation here (ignore the Eichel stuff, that's in its own thread because we're organized adults here). Fun guesses on blockbuster trades by insidererererrrssss.
  16. https://theathletic.com/2690216/2021/07/07/is-this-the-nhls-summer-of-the-blockbuster-here-are-5-stars-who-could-be-traded/ Some speculation on Eichel here. Mostly just guesses it seems but both Burnside and Vogl think he ends up with the Kings. Both seem to think they'll get a lot for him.
  17. Remove the Bruins 2nd and I'm a definite yes on that deal. We shouldn't have to give it up because their first is MUCH lower than other teams in the running.
  18. I'm still all in on Power at number one and expect him to be the pick. If we get third overall I'm starting to lean Eklund over Beniers despite my prior conviction on Beniers being the guy there. If the team is really as in love with Eklund as the reports say they are I expect them to place a very high value on third overall. Of course, Seattle could screw them and take him at second overall. No, I don't think the Sabres would consider taking Eklund over Power.
  19. IF we trade away Jack/Sam/Risto and don't return an immediate/placeholder vet 1C then I'd immediately turn to free agency. Throw short-term money at guys like Krejci, Getzlaf, Stastny, Granlund, Danault. I don't believe any of those guys are 1C anymore (some never were) but I'd rather have them log some big, tough minutes while the others get ready. Ideally this player comes in a trade, though.
  20. I agree that we would likely get much more trading him right now vs later but I disagree with the notion that the other players mentioned would get more than what we'd get for Reinhart at the deadline. We'd get what those players got with ease. Hall situation, as already noted, was not comparable.
  21. I would counter by saying a .911 save percentage in 13 more games is significantly better than .898, to be fair.
  22. I don't WANT Quick ... but if he's a body in a trade to make salaries work/get a little more out of LA then I'm fine with it.
  23. Nobody said anything about counting on him and I wouldn't expect much for him, at all. I wouldn't be shocked if his response to the trade would be to either demand another trade or just retire. But players have revived their careers in worse circumstances.
  24. I would hope so. Not only for the Sabres sake but when you're a team like the Wild that hasn't found much success and you get a promising young star like that you've got to step up and prove you're willing to take the steps necessary to put a winner on the ice. I don't know any other franchise that I can say that about. I feel like there's a really obvious one I'm missing ... but I'm missing it. Any help?
  25. That Anaheim deal is definitely a step down from my stance of needing an elite-level prospect but at this point I’m ready for it. Quick actually interests me as a guy that could try to revive his career and a space filler in net. Comtois and Turcotte likely slot in immediately. So three “now” pieces. Ideally you get another vet in there, though.
