  1. He was in the middle of a 58 points in 50 games stretch when he was traded to Columbus. Prior to the first trade: Duchene was 25 and had seasons of 67 and 70 points (both of which are above Samson’s career high) and a season of 43 points in 47 games in the lockout year (.914 PPG, higher than any Samson season). So three seasons statistically better than any season Samson had as far as the easy metrics of goals/assists/points. Only difference is Samson’s scoring took a jump this year (aka season prior to the trade) whereas Duchene’s had dipped (he was off to a good start the year he was dealt, though).
  2. I know we’re a decade+ removed from it but this franchise was once among the best in the league despite not winning any cups. Among the top four/five in all-time winning percentage prior to this stretch of stench.
  3. Duchene’s heights were a little higher than Samson’s have been so there’s a gap but that’s a deal that should be the ceiling of what you’re looking for with teams understanding they need to be near it but not quite there.
  4. Because he has RFA status and a contract that must be negotiated there’s definitely more control there
  5. If giving up Reinhart for a guy with one year left on his deal who has already told better teams he won’t sign an extension is buying low then I don’t want it.
  6. They have most of it but not all. A simple reminder from Eichel that his NMC kicks in a year with a well-executed wink takes some of it away.
  7. I‘d need some serious convincing that three or four have anything to do with analytics and aren’t just personal preferences
  8. Your teams’ owners have gotten in the way more than the players. That I’m sure of. I think this is definitely true for the upcoming season. He might play the injury up and not play immediately but otherwise I expect to see him playing for this team if a trade doesn’t materialize or if Adams decides the marker isn’t what he likes.
  9. The teams get paid oodles of money to manage a game. Stop sucking off the rich and realize both sides have power and justly should. See above.
  10. Teams constantly trade players while on contracts they sign. They do so often without the player having any inkling it’s coming. Players should be allowed some control over their own lives and I see no problem with them taking control over it.
  11. He hasn’t done it yet with the Clippers, those are just reports at this point. It seems like he was pretty spot on with the Spurs (though he was very good with the Raptors trainers and still left so I’m not sure how honest he was being).
  12. This is the stupidest ***** and a great example of how propaganda works. Stop holding players to contracts they sign but not teams.
  13. We should not deal him if this is a prerequisite that we can’t guarantee.
  14. I’d need more than that for Reinhart. I’d need even more if I’m adding Risto. But I do have interest in Konecny.
  15. Can we stop talking about contracts like they matter? They legitimately don’t and that’s been proven time and time again.
  16. Agreed. That offer is probably good if you switch in Krebs and ideally add a first. I don’t need Chandler Stephenson in the deal.
  17. I agree. He was very good in Vegas. One bad year in Vancouver doesn’t entirely turn me off to having him on board as long as we do indeed plan to move a few other expensive pieces.
  18. I was pretty confident this would be your response 😂
  19. Ageism is not making an observation about the way a certain age group perceives something. Something something Ted Nolan’s wife something something.
  20. There’s a stench that needs to be eradicated. It’s probably not the players.
  21. I was with you until the end which is a made up thing older people cling to. Players wanted out and forced their way out back then there just wasn’t as much media access or coverage so it wasn’t as hotly speculated on. The MJ to LeBron comparison also falls short because MJ won less than LeBron did when the two played on comparatively bad teams but once the front office gave MJ the tools to succeed he found success. The first era for LeBron on the Cavs had no tools for success so he had to go find them. That’s what stars do and have done for decades: leave if they aren’t given the tools for success. Some leave if they are given those tools. Not just the NBA. Pre-LeBron examples of both: Charles Barkley, Scottie Pippen, Kobe Bryant, John Elway, Jim Kelly, Eli Manning, Joe Montana, Kareem, Wilt, Chris Pronger, Michael Peca, Pavel Bure, Eric Lindros, Patrick Roy.
  22. The talk of Jack not being great in the locker room has existed for years and while I think some of it is just being on a garbage team for this long it’s certainly there. He’s not intentionally tanking it and the injury situation isn’t his fault but both his words and his injury have done the trick. What the truth is on his attitude almost doesn’t matter because perception is enough to hinder the trade.
  23. Deals can be made on the 22nd, yes. My gut feeling on this remains that a deal does NOT get done and not because it shouldn’t. It’s a perfect mix of a low-character player with injury problems who should fetch a lot but has done enough on his own to tank his own value coupled with an inexperienced GM and front office who can’t navigate the complicated situation. It will stretch out into next offseason when, after another brutal season, Eichel will take advantage of his NMC to control the market and get even less than the team would right now.
  24. Some notes from Friedman: - Danault and the Habs were $500-750K apart on a long-term extension before the season. - Chicago and Edmonton have been talking about a Duncan Keith deal for weeks now. Some questioning if it gets done. - Vancouver is trying to move Nate Schmidt - Toronto will lose Zach Hyman - Philly plans to leave Jakub Voracek unprotected in the expansion draft and if he’s not selected there they’ll look for a trade - There is speculation Carolina will NOT qualify Alex Nedeljkovic which is ***** insane and we need to be all over that - A lot of interest across the league in Arizona center Christian Dvorak (hi, yes please) - Kings and Blues possibilities if Landeskog leaves Colorado https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/31-thoughts-nhls-olympic-participation-stands-off-season-begins/
