  1. Definitely. I have no doubt some teams already have the parameters of deals agreed to for certain selections (as they always do) which will go down if certain players are or aren't there. I also wonder if we'll see any deals go down relatively quickly after the finals end since there's been such intense talk and the league prefers that teams don't announce deals during the draft.
  2. My guess is this all ends with Vegas in 17-18, Seattle whenever they get a stadium and Carolina in Quebec.
  3. Sekera and 8 was enough to get to 5 (Rutherford said he offered that to Regier and Regier said no). I don't think it's going to take much more than Pysyk and 8 if Edmonton likes Pysyk (who is a hometown kid and captained the Oil Kings).
  4. He's actually attempting to sell the majority stake in the franchise while still maintaining control. He already has minority owners and they're all about to pull out and get their money back. He's in a lose-lose spot and needs to just cut his losses and move on.
  5. The executive committee is meeting now. Expectation is a recommendation will be made but it'll have to get leaked since they don't discuss these things publicly.
  6. I'm pretty sure cable is actually the term I'm looking for and the commonly-used term for the context I was looking for. It's certainly not broadcast. Edit: yea, it's cable. http://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/stanley-cup-final-2016-tv-schedule-in-limbo-for-games-3-and-4-1.11848194 "the network can protect against the risk of having the Cup awarded on a cable channel" It's the term used for the channels everybody gets through basic cable which is basically NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, ESPN and public access.
  7. San Jose deserved to lose. It looked like they were playing with pool noodles the first two periods. This series is done unless San Jose transforms into a whole new team.
  8. What in the world happened to Joe Pavelski?
  9. http://www.torontosun.com/2016/06/05/dwane-casey-officially-a-toronto-sporting-coach-staple Apparently some scouts in Winnipeg want Puljujarvi over Laine.
  10. I don't know. Ask a rich white guy who is dumb enough to think it'll work.
  11. Roman Polak is dreadful
  12. There's just no way they'll have an answer to that by the time a recommendation is made (in fact, a recommendation is expected to be made tomorrow). The Hurricanes owner is refusing to sell to anybody with the intention to move it and also is requiring that whoever buys the team allows him to maintain control. That's highly unlikely and the solution is far away. I don't think the sources of that report know what they're talking about.
  13. Whatever the term is for common channels that anybody with television can view.
  14. The tv contract isn't up for bid until 2021. The next TV contract HAS to get every single Stanley Cup final to cable. It's insane that your league's finals is relegated to NBCSN for American Ninja Warrior. Embarrassing.
  15. Gionta does not have a NMC. He has a limited no-trade clause. His no-movement clause expired after this season. Bogo's no-movement clause expired when he waived it to come to Buffalo.
  16. So, right now, our protected players would probably be: O'Reilly (required), Kane, Girgensons, Ennis, Larsson, Foligno Bogo, Risto, McCabe (could see Pysyk instead of Bogo) Lehner So we can acquire two forwards with no worry (exposing Foligno and/or Larsson wouldn't be bad at all). Another dman wouldn't be much of a worry either.
  17. No. All players with NMC are exempt from being exposed but their teams will still be required to use a slot to protect them according to this report.
  18. Trading Pavel Datsyuk's contract is going to be a lot harder now that it appears players with expiring contracts after next season with NMC will automatically be one of your team's protected players: http://nypost.com/2016/06/04/how-nhls-mad-parity-quest-hurts-players-wallets-ambitious-teams/ This is very good news for the Stamkos bidding. Could take one team completely out of the chase which would lower the price and make it more likely he comes to your team.
  19. I'm stealing JJ's thunder here but wanted to make sure this was in the relevant thread since it's a question many have wondered: it sounds like NMCs are REQUIRED to be protected meaning they CAN'T be exposed but MUST be one of the players you proect. http://nypost.com/2016/06/04/how-nhls-mad-parity-quest-hurts-players-wallets-ambitious-teams/ NY Post also says Vegas is definitely happening for 2017-18. Contracts expiring after this coming season still need to be protected in the draft (meaning the Coyotoes, as JJ pointed out, will have to protect Chris Pronger). This is GREAT news for those hoping the Red Wings don't get Stamkos because it's going to make it VERY hard to deal Datsyuk's contract knowing you'll have to protect him regardless of his retirement and expiring contract status.
  20. I actually enjoy looking at them. It's a simple little gimmick that always draws a ton of views, but I was poking fun at the concept of redesigning shields into shields. It's also worth noting that the Panthers aren't the first team with a shield logo since so many dissed them for being too soccer-like with their redesign. This particular redesign was lazy and boring, though. He ignores the point of most logos (like chopping off half of the Devils logo rendering the "NJ" impossible to see and just jamming in each team's actual logo into a shield).
  21. We already know. Ken Holland and every single reporter who hasn't questioned it aren't fools.
  22. So my original interpretation of the rule was correct. My interpretation, and the apparent common interpretation considering Detroit is trying to trade the contract, is that the contract can be traded. I think the "regardless of whether or where he is playing" part just means that the NHL team that owns his rights pays the contract regardless.
  23. My best attempt at remaking the Rangers and Kings into shields:
  24. He was 35 when it started but wasn't 35 when he signed the extension. He was 34 by a month and two days.
