Matthew Fairburn @MatthewFairburn Ravens DT Brandon Williams on Tyrod Taylor: "The game plan was to make him be a quarterback."
-
After a good first drive Cyrus got abused. Cordy Glenn is a top five or six left tackle in the league. If a decent receiving corps is part of a "functional unit" then Whaley's failure to address the position in the offseason is magnified further.
-
Rex says he made the call to double the number three receiver on the play where Duke Williams was left alone on Wallace (Wallace scored the difference-making TD). Mike Rodak@mikerodak Rex Ryan says Mike Wallace's 66-yard touchdown catch was "on him" because he doubled a different player instead... es.pn/2c2fwW6 Cordy Glenn in a walking boot. He's on my list of four or five guys that would make this team go from "meh" to "terrible" if out for an extended period.
-
I'm waiting to see the stats, but I tend to agree with this from what I saw. He was certainly under pressure often, but it didn't seem like a whole lot more than normal when facing a blitzing team.
-
What did Rex do today? A ton of penalties. Atrocious offense with seemingly few adjustments. And before you mention that Rex is a defensive coach it has to be noted that head coaches need to be in all conversations. It's their job to oversee the whole operation. On Rob: don't know what he did today. He's an assistant so I don't really care, it's mostly just a good joke.

jred @JxredNHL can Rex and Rob get fired on the next episode of Rex and Rob

Tyrod has been a bad game. When he does get time he hasn't been precise, at all. The offseason always makes you forget about a player's deficiencies, but this game was a quick reminder.
-
That's a garbage call
-
How in the hell is that not a late hit?
-
Two defenders on the edge, three lead blockers and Tyrod is dropped for a loss of three.
-
Cordy Glenn out for the rest of the game. Offense looking solid so far on this drive.
-
Cordy Glenn hurt and out of the game on 4th and goal at the goal line. Also, McCoy was in there but there was no angle. Terrible play calling so far. They run a QB sneak right after Rex through the challenge flag, the challenge fails and they go right back to it. Terrible.

Bush sidesteps a pass rusher coming in alone giving him a free shot at Tyrod. Lucky Tyrod didn't get killed. Tyrod Taylor
-
Duke Williams absolutely toasted. Gonna be a fun one... *eye roll*
-
Oh hey, there's Sammy. Absolutely burnt Smith
-
Same thing this drive ... Dump off to McCoy, then handoff on second down. Lucky to be down 3 through the first
-
There we go, let's get the offense going Tyrod is 3-for-3 with maybe two yards Holy predictable offense batman. Two drives: 1st down - dump to McCoy 2nd down - Clay in motion, handoff to McCoy
-
Greg Roman is usually the master of designing opening drives but that was pathetic. Also tired of seeing teams go to the draw or screen just because they're more than ten yards out.

I absolutely knocked it out of the park. *starts sweating* Right guys!? *walks away in shame*

As the season gets closer my expectations for the team lower, and I don't think it's the typical "because Buffalo" stance. It's because marked improvement by Tyrod might not actually matter. I, and others, have gotten so hung up on thinking that you NEED a QB to be relevant (probably still true) that it kind of creeped into "QB is the only thing that matters" territory. You realize that's not true when Andrew Luck (2-5), Philip Rivers (4-12), Eli Manning (6-10), Drew Brees (7-8), Matthew Stafford (7-9) and Joe Flacco (3-7) all had losing records last season. That's a combined 29-51 for six QBs in the top half of the league. I'm not sure there's enough talent overall on defense and the depth is bad across the board. It'll take some real surprise and consistent performances from unlikely places to break the streak this year.
-
Va Tech killing it so far. This offense isn't like the offenses run by any top Frank Beamer team. Normally run by high-speed, power-arm QBs likes the two Vicks or Tyrod the new coach has an emphasis on size and a ton of pre-snap personnel shifts.

Farjestad over Krakow in Sweden. Their season is underway.

Judge Carlton Reeves, in issuing a decision against the removal of the Confederate Flag in Mississippi, goes off on the symbol and what it means.

Indeed it was, so we've got two swings at looking brilliant there.

Can't wait for the Hokies to pull off the upset over Tennessee tonight ... Grew up a Hokies fan but it's been a few years since I've been this excited for a game. Probably because College Game Day is there.
