What are your predictions/expectations for next year?

Eichel Gets Two Game Suspension from the Dept of Player Safety
Hoss replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I just saw the hit finally. If you’re talking about Soderberg this isn’t even close to the truth. Jack lunged his shoulder into his head. It’s a move Euchel does constantly but I don’t think he meant to get his head. But he did. It was real bad. That’s a two-game hit. -
Eichel Gets Two Game Suspension from the Dept of Player Safety

I haven’t seen Eichel’s hit but I saw at least four responses immediately saying he should be suspended a couple games -

Aquaman was indeed well worth the watch. As was Wonder Woman. And Shazam is apparently very good. -

For the record, I have no issue if Captain Marvel IS the savior minus the part where the fan base hasn’t had the time to get to know her as well as the more battle-tested movie heroes. -

Anyone who thinks Rey is overpowered just because she’s a girl and not because she’s the main character of a multi-billion dollar movie empire is a sexist. Also, it’s crazy to me that people struggle with the idea of powerful women. Not only from throughout our own planet but even in movies about flying space people with light swords and giant purple men and time travel. -

It’s problematic because it’s literally the end of this version of the MCU. Infinity War was an all-hands on deck effort so suddenly seeing new faces is more expected in that timeframe where as “END GAME” is supposed to have a very final feel to it for this era of super heroes. MCU will be very different after it. And we’ve seen these characters go through so much so to peg all hopes on someone we just met is going to be an interesting dynamic. -

On 1: fair. I always think that type of organizational strategy is interesting 2: KC is absolutely preferable to Buffalo. Green Bay probably not but it’s close to Milwaukee which is superior. Still low on the list. Detroit is debatable. Cleveland is debatable. There are certainly different ways of thinking so not everyone’s preference will be the same but I don’t imagine many have Buffalo anywhere above like 25 on their list. It’s an issue no matter how much our love for Buffalo wishes to believe otherwise. 3: this is a fair assessment. I believe both Buffalo franchises need an infusement of talent regardless of how they get it but it’s fair to think AB might not have been ideal.

Right before free agency when there are already deals to be made and free agents to be signed? Not a shot. Antonio Brown just played the Bills is all. This is why it’s hard to build winners here. It’s rare for rich and talented people to want to be in Buffalo. It’s easy to argue that it’s the worst of the 32 cities. A lot of guys that want to come here don’t do it for the right reasons thus hindering the winning process more. It’s encouraging that he pursued. It’s discouraging that he’s not confident enough in himself or his staff to make the deal anyways.

Yes, the state of statistics included. -
Defense Next Year - Could we see major change?

He’s close but I don’t think he’s ready for full-time next year. IF free agency is a route taken to add to the d corps (especially if we ship one or two out for forward help) then this year’s crop has very few of note. Erik Karlsson is the obvious one. I don’t think that’s happening. Jake Gardiner from Toronto sounds like he will be finding a new home. Tyler Myers is free. That’s really it. I do have interest in the first two but their paydays will be large. Just about every state related to whether or not a player positively impacts those around them says Risto brings down every player around him. We used to blame that on his defensive partners (which was mostly a denial thing) but that’s not a valid excuse anymore. -

He consistently brings down his defensive partners and the forwards he’s on the ice with. I’m not sure he’ll create a hole that isn’t easily fillable. He just looks the part so well. -
How the Hell are the Bruins the 3rd best team in hockey right now??
Hoss replied to matter2003's topic in The Aud Club
The Bruins are a good example of how those flashy new young toys have become too big of an obsession. If this team were to trade for a 30-year-old top-six forward Sabres fans would meltdown talking about how they’re washed up and don’t fit the timeline. This team needs talent, regardless of age. Start winning and you’ll keep winning if you do it right. Start somewhere and stop thinking every player either has to be 22 or Jason Pominville. -

The Bruins have three elite forwards in Marchand, Pastrnak and Bergeron then fill out their lineup with a good mix of talent from there. Their defense isn’t phenomenal man to man but it’s a defense I’d be happy to have here. Rask is a top-tier goalie. All of that shows me their demise has been significantly overestimated. -

I would love to get Klefbom and RNH in a deal for Risto but we’d have to add to that significantly (Klefbom probably has similar value to Risto). I’m not sure any other attainable forward from Edmonton interests me. Might be willing to include the lesser of our firsts this year to make it happen (after the Montour first is decided). -

Dahlin and Montour are the only guys I know I want back on this blue line. Legitimately anybody else can be flipped and replaced. Reaistically that’s not going to happen, but this team needs change. I’d be willing to welcome Pilut back into the lineup at some point, as well. -

I am legitimately dumbfounded by people who want to stay with the exact same defensive core. Especially those included Scandella. My lord we’re so used to mediocrity that we’re addicted to it. -
Random note: I was a huge Paul Fenton fan. Wanted him here, twice. But... He turned Nino Neiderreiter and Mikael Granlund into Victor Rask and Kevin Fiala. That's absolutely brutal.

They were both rumored to be potential available at various points leading up to the deadline. They’re lreparing for a big offseason run at Panarin and Bobrovsky so maybe trying to shed some money to make room.

I cringe at worrying about the softness of a team in today’s NHL. Also, we will have opportunities to add players. -

Nor do I. Too much noise and this team NEEDS a couple bold/big moves. He’s the obvious one. -
So... this is definitely a trend at this point. The Sabres have a decent recent history of landing players who were in the rumor mill for an extended period of time. Josh Gorges, Robin Lehner, Ryan O’Reilly, Evander Kane, Marco Scandella, Nathan Beaulieu, Jeff Skinner and now Brandon Montour. Is this concerning at all? Is it just a result of the way the league works now with insiders being all over the pulse of the league? Each of those players above were rumored to be available for at least a full year before they were dealt. Montour maybe slightly less. Players aren’t often traded in surprise moves, but those deals are still happening and it just about never involves Buffalo. Our interest in O’Reilly, Kane and Montour was telegraphed from a great distance and time. What does it all mean?

If Florida really is open to moving Hoffman or Hubeardeau this team should be all over them

He’s had a total of three seasons where he played more than 58 games so I think you might be thinking of a different player. He’s only been a full-time player for four seasons total before this one. 58 GP - 23 PTS 82 GP - 43 PTS 82 GP - 56 PTS 83 GP - 58 PTS (83 games due to trade) This year he’s on pace for 50 points. I want more than that out of my number two center, and I don’t see any indication he can get much better.
