One thing I really wanna see this season is a permanent end to their habit of, whenever there is a home game with a chance to build some excitement around the team and increase the chances of creating a home-ice advantage with a raucous crowd, coming out in a coma and pooping the bed for most of the game.

It hasn't happened yet.  If they want to be a real team, it needs to start yesterday.

hard to make the playoffs by being an elite road team and one of the worst home teams in the league(5th worst last year, only teams worse were the 4 teams that finished 30+ points beneath them in the standings---quite pathetic)

What forward scored a career high eight short handed goals for the Sabres in the 1974–1975 season?

On October 30, 1971, what forward had the first three goal game of his NHL career in the Sabres 4–4 tie against the Canucks?

In 1978 who scored a hat trick to become the first player to score 300 goals as a member of  the Buffalo Sabres?

    1) Rene Robert?

    2) Rick Martin?

    3) Gilbert Perrault?

  3. Since 2021, the top 6 players in terms of most points in the NHL over that time have come from 3 teams, which feature 2 players from each team making the list and even more interesting, the top 2 players are from the first team, players 3 and 4 are from the 2nd team and players 5 and 6 are from the 3rd team.

Which 3 teams are represented and what is the order of these teams(the team with players 1-2 would be first, the team with players 3-4 would be second and the team with players 5-6 would be third)?

I actually disagree with Cozens from last year.

He has the potential to be good 2 way, and he certainly is aggressive, but last year I re-watched WAY too many goals where his over-aggressiveness had him out of position and he was one of the main reasons a chance was allowed.  If/When he learns when to chase the puck with 100% effort vs when he is better to hold his position/spot on the ice, then he will be a very good to great 2 way forward.  But do not confuse aggressiveness and chasing the puck for being good defensively.

His positioning on many, many goals allowed last year was awful.  I posted comments after watching a lot of replays, the story goes something like this...puck goes into the corner. Sabres D-man is going to the corner and will get to the puck first.  Cozens decides to chase the puck there anyway being the 2nd man in, leaving his spot on the ice, but not impacting the play because by the time he gets there, the puck has already been moved.  The loose puck gets pushed to the high slot where Cozens was but vacated that location to chase the puck, Center or D-man gets the puck un-opposed and walks right in for a scoring chance, goal allowed.  If he would have stayed where he was positionally, the loose puck that came to the area, he might have even taken possession and gone the other way with it.

Again, its good he is agressive and seems to push 100% out there, but he made a lot of positional mistakes that led to a lot of goals against last year.

I think a lot of their defensive mistakes can be characterized by that...young guys who always try to go for the puck and be aggressive like they are taught on offense, but it doesn't work like that on D...you need to be aware of spacing and where the players who don't have the puck are and more importantly where they are going and what they are trying to accomplish...

They still have some struggles in that area but it's much much better this year than last year and I would expect continues to improve as the young players learn to cool their jets a little bit on D and play a more sound, fundamental positioning game when called for and realize their responsibility in that part of the ice and who they need to be aware of.

  5. In the last 25 games played(going back to last year), Mittelstadt has led the Sabres in scoring with 28 points. Surprised?  You shouldn't be if you have been watching the games.  He has been consistently excellent and last year single handedly kept us in the playoff race when the big guns went dry for a bit.

He has also been a +6 in that time, 2nd on the team only to Power who is a +7. He has been noticeable in the defensive zone too at times winning puck battles and getting the puck out.  He is taking his game to another level, IMO.

Adams better extend him soon or his price is going to be a lot higher at the end of the year when he potentially has 80-90 points.  He is the fan favorite whipping boy no more...

Hasn't only been good for the Sabres either...he is actually tied for 16th in the NHL in most points over the last 25 games with players like Auston Matthews and Nikita Kucherov.

We didn't play well. That's obvious. However, we won. Winning when not expected and losing when not expected are part of the vagaries of a long and grinding season. When the season concludes, what counts is how many points your team earned. We got two points out of this game. There were occasions last season when we outplayed the opposition and lost because of the stellar play of the other team's goalie. In this game, we were the recipient of quality netminding when the opponent outplayed us. I'll take it.

That just happened a few games ago against Montreal...their goalie was like a stonewall and stopped 3 breakaways.

The Sabres are being held afloat by goaltending and penalty killing, as we all expected.

I wouldn't say that.  The offense and transition game is starting to kick into gear once they have figured out how to play team defense while not completely eliminating their offense.

We're 10 games into the season and decided to take a look at stats to date: https://www.nhl.com/sabres/stats

    Some observations:

    • Skinner leads the team with 10 points (5+5), 3 players have 9 points (Mitts, Dahlin, Thompson)
    • The only two skaters to not register a point yet are Bryson (2 games) & Oloffson (6 games)
    • Owen Power leads the team with in the plus category with +9
    • Connor Clifton leads the team in the minus category with a -6
    • I only see 3 PP goals notated. Last year our power play was electric and last year it balanced out the atrocious PK. This year we've flipped a switch. The sputtering special teams play is going to cost us games. It needs to get going.
    • UPL (4 gp) has the highest sv% of .926, followed by Comrie (3gp) .914 and Levi has fared the worst with .892. Team defense has been getting stronger as we've gotten into the season so it'll be interesting to see what Levi can do with the team playing well in front of him.
    • Brandon Biro is shooting at 100% 2 for 2.
    • Peyton Krebs has played all 10 games and has only taken 5 shots and put up a lone assist. I can see him becoming the new whipping boy of the team if he doesn't get his game going.
    • Jost's faceoff performance is 52.6% which is the highest amongst forwards who probably have taken multiple face-offs. Tage (45.6), Mitts (40.8) and Zemgus (38.5) need to be better.

You realize the PK being so good is going to do far more to help us than the PP being bad is going to hurt us right?  They will eventually get the PP rocking again, they have far too much talent not to.  The PK at 90% has been amazing and they have looked the part too.

    No worries.

Yes.  The Atlantic keeps us warmer than inland.  Also more moist so if the wind is right we have a bit of a Lake Erie effect.  Yesterday we had about 6 inches of snow (converted that for yous) and just a few miles inland they had very little.

I checked out the climate and the average winter temps are pretty much almost the same as Buffalo's which is crazy for how much farther North you are.

Centigrade.  Sorry for the confusion.  I'm no Polar Bear.  They are very cute and all, but I don't like the cold that much.

Ah!  I should have noticed the NS for Nova Scotia!

Is it like Greenland up there where the ocean keeps you warmer than you would expect in winter?

Would either of the alphabet boys care to expound on why they vomited my take?  Is it that you want Mitts locked up longer than five years? Naive enough to think we can get him for under 6.5? Too ignorant to acknowledge he's been our best forward this year? What is it? Enlighten me.

Sorry, I'm too busy eating alphabet crackers in my soup.
