  1. What will happen after game 5 he plays??? will they send to JRs or keep him on the club. For his first two games he has played pretty good. He drew some power plays against Philadelphia. I wonder if they will have him play on the power play at all or on an occasional shift put him with Vanek and Pommenville to see what he can do. My gut feeling is that he doesnt stay with the club this year....not for his play...but because of contracts...of his and of other players. First him playing this year will mean his first yr contract kicks in which means 1 yr sooner for a new contract thus more money. Currently they have McCormick and Gerbe on the IR. Ellis would go down to Rochester and likely clear waivers. That means they need to move one of their Dmen since none of them will clear waivers. Having Grigorenko will give them better offense potential for the third line. If he is sent down back to JRs he will be in Buffalo for all of the 2013-14 season.
  2. they dont have experienced veteran D-men. They already had one Dman who was going to likely miss the season so this adds another.
  3. During the broadcast on NBC McGuire had talked about the fact Penn State played in Philly yesterday after the flyers game. He didnt bring up the Pegula connection to the program.
  4. You have to remember guys...... this was the first game for many of the team...especially playing together. that was part of he reason you saw Hecht playing with Pomenville on some shifts...they played together over in Germany during the lockout so ruff thought it could be an advantage. In the lline up you basically had 10 guys rotating among 3 lines so there was some rotation of player lineups. Scott and ellis mostly rode the bench. If Leino was in the lineup instead of Ellis you would have likely seen 4 lines going with some double shifting of players on the 4th line An observation----will they play Grigorenko on the PP??? Good experience and ice time for the play making rookie.
  5. Edmonton was the other idle team originally for today besides Buffalo. It looks like they moved the San Jose at Calgary game from Saturday to Sunday. Thus those 4 are the ones not playing today. OP---you should get NBC through Direct TV unless there is an affiliate distributer dispute. flyers at Sabres only game on nbc...so no regional coverage
  6. Not true..... Kopitars injury isnt that serious. There is a bigger injury they have with one of their top 6 d-men that looks to be for the year so Leopold is someone they would like because he only his contract for this year. Getting Stoll....I dont see that. I am not sure of his contract status....butt he doesnt fit what Buffalo would want. I would rather make a move for someone like Brown.
  7. I would seriously kick the tires on Palmieri. With the roster likely Gerbe and MCCormick go on IR. I would send Ellis down for a claim on Palmieri. The spares on the roster would be 2 Dmen and 1 forward. I expect in a month a trade f ne of the Dmen...likely Leopold. With Connolly.....this was more of a traight release. This is not one of those salary cap mulligans. They rather see what the youth bring and possibly finish farther down in the standings in a deep draft. I also can see them trade a few players or high picks and young players...see phanuff. And Kassel.
  8. You need to protect your #1 pick in 2013....this class is supposed to be very very deep in talent. Later part in the first round you can get top 10 talent in other years.
  9. Defense: Leopold, Weber, Ehrhoff, Regher, Pardy, Sekera, Sulzer, and Myers, McNabb, and Brennan. Ehrhoff-Sulzer Myers-Regher Sekera-Leopold Weber Pardy, McNabb, and Brennan...McNabb likely in Rochester just because of numbers. Pardy can also play forward Brennen is out of options to Rochester so he must clear waivers. Pardy was brought in for a physical presence against boston. Leopold or Brennan could be the ones dealt. Leopold is a UFA after the season and I dont expect to resign him after this season given the numbers at
  10. My luck with my marriage----now divorced..... My ex wanted to get married in January but I told her I didnt want a conflict with football games...especially the super bowl. Historically the game was always done the last Sunday in January. So I was like fine do it in february....then it pushed to the first sunday in February...so a couple of times super bowl conflicted with my anniversary. Ho3w much will center ice cost since its only for 48 games....$99 maybe? With no nonconference games you will end up a singleton team in each conference idle in a max schedule. The same thing as in baseball with 15 teams in each and must have interleague games throughout the year. Something I noticed....... what I read was if it was a 48 game it would be 7 games per division teams and 2 for nodivision conference teams...if 50 games then it would be 4 against division, 3 against conference teams.....it appears its a 48 game with the 4 divisional gggames per team and 3 against non conference...but 2 teams only play 2 times.
  11. Buffalo could easily support a junior team. I live in the Seattle area and there are two teams in the immediate area. One is in Everett and the other is named Seattle but plays in Kent which is about the equivalent of say west seneca to Buffalo where they have an 8,000 seat arena that hosts small concerts, ice shows, high school and small college basketball and WHL games. they could add a team in niagara falls playing at Dwyer and then a team in Buffalo as well as Rochester & Syracuse. There has been talk of addition teams not just on the Buffalo area but also in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Chicago area, Michigan, northern Ohio, and New england. They could creaet a JR league of about 16 teams if they really wanted to of just US teams which would then create 4 jr leagues where they then could have some final four tournamanet for a championship....over 10 days each team plays a best of 3 and then a best of 3 for the championship in one city.
  12. Vanek isnt the one to blame.... I have no problem with trading Miller. I am fine with the various reasonable Miller trades talked about. You dont trade your top players for the sake of trading. That is why you trade the middle of the pack players,...they are easily replaceable.
  13. His age...hes 38 when the season puck drops how many years....how much money? The last 3 years hes around a 18 goal/40pt player......not a first line center. He doesnt give you that physical pressence that say a Doan does. How will he be at 38? does he drop even further to say low teens in goals? If so how much of a difference is he vs playing a rokkie/1st/2nd yr guy on a third or fourth line?
  14. If I was to trade Ennis it would be for a Center---a #1 Center......not a RW. They dont have the Center depth. You cant expect the two #1s to play this season.
  15. They will not trade Ennis..... They need a Center more than a right wing. I can see them trading Myers or McNabb but not both. Likely items being traded would be Stafford or Pommenville....why...for depth...Vanek is supposed to be a RW and they should pencil in Armia as a RW for next years squad. If need be Ennis could go to LW. They are too younf at Center with 3 22 yr olds and 2 others just drafted. I could also see them trading the second 1st rounder this year in Girgenson (sp). Gragenko will not be dealt...to much potential upside/steal with him given talk of him being a #1 overall pick. In terms of UFAs out there...there are only two I see any sniff by Buffalo if they cant get Doan...Arnott © and Andrei Kostistisn (RW). They cant trade a center for a RW...they wont have centers to set up plays. For me to trade Myers for Getzlaf I would need to be able to know what it would take to sign him to an extension. I would not give up Myers for a one yr rental.
  16. I see something bigger happening next season than what many have posted. The activity will happen prior to the draft. My first thought...I wonder if the Sabres tank it to close the season and get a top 3 pick. The top 3 on the draft board are players who could step right in and play. I see them trading Miller in the offseason as part of a trade where they get someone like Jonathan Burnier of the Kings or Cory Schneider of the Canaucks. They are more likely to tade Roy over Stafford. The have a ton of depth in their D-men. In the offseason if the blackhawks miss the playoffs or lose in the first round do they trade Miller for Kane? alternate one would be a Miller/Roy for Kane and someone else?? This all depends on what happens with the GM after this season---he has proven time and time again he cant make trades for quality veteran players who arent rentals. The only trade that doesnt fall in this was the Drury trade with Calgary. Similarly, would they trade say Stafford to Alberta for something in return? That was part of their motive in the Drury trade...the veteran D-man they traded up there (forgetting his name) wanted to be closer to home.
  17. I still question this trade.....it surprised me greatly. I could see trading Kassian as part of a deal for an established #1 center. But this trade...I dont know.... How common are skilled big wingers in the NHL? vs How common are average size centers with some passing skill? If He turns into another Brierre--great...but I am not convinced.
