Depends if the contract is a real issue, or this is just standard negotiations. If it's a real problem, I can see a cost controlled 22 year old with good numbers, but not good enough to break the bank, as a solid centerpiece of a deal.
-
Well, with only 16 games, I think 1 game is very significant. That'd be 10 points in hockey!
-
To a degree, sure. I think the proposed changes have the potential to make things worse though.
-
I completely disagree with #3. Watkins and Darby to Matthews and Gaines is a meaningful downgrade that will have a measurably negative impact, probably to the tune of a whole game difference. I agree with this, particularly in football. I just don't really see the point. I don't see a 6-10 team as being much more watchable than a 3-13 team.

Sorta. You've become the Drane of GoT, just coming in and shitting all over something that many genuinely enjoy and what to discuss. And that's separate from legitimately not understanding why you keep watching something you hate. I got to where you are with The Walking Dead...and stopped watching.

My extremities tingled the first time I got off the dragster. Most purely thrilling thing I've ever experienced.
-
A second consequence I could see is that officials would be even more reluctant to call penalties, especially in an important game. Game flow > scoring. Not that I'm going to complain about more goals however they may come, but it's definitely a band-aid solution.

I'm in partial agreement here. The Gendry thing happened at light speed. I think it's a natural consequence of fewer episodes and winding the series down, but was still weird (though satisfying to see him smash in some corrupt skulls). I'm honestly not sure where they're going with that armistice, except to level the playing field for Cersei when she inevitably double crosses. Speaking of Cersei, I do think she's completely playing Jaime with the child thing in order to keep him loyal, because she feels him not being 100% behind her. Where I disagree is with that Arya and Sansa scene. They never got along as children, and even when they were reunited, I thought the tone was quite frosty. Them clashing over her rule and Littlefinger is a pretty logical, and dare I say expected, continuation of their relationship.

The curious case of Rasmus Ristolainen: ?
TrueBlueGED replied to hockeyhound's topic in The Aud Club
Risto's metrics at even strength are garbage. I believe there are reasons for this beyond "he's among the worst defensemen in the NHL." There, is however, validity to concerns over where he ultimately slots in on a good team that stem from these numbers. I'd like to think there's a happy medium between "he's garbage" and "he's great, whatch the game losers." I think most of us are in agreement that he is not a franchise defenseman. His usage, defense partners, and system have also been problematic. All of this contributes to his poor metrics...but that doesn't mean the poor metrics should be dismissed out of hand because we watch him play. -
It can be a tanking move without the team embarking on a scorched earth tank. Tanking with dignity, if you will ;) The team deliberately made itself worse for this season, one month before it begins, for the purposes of a little extra draft currency in 2018.
-
They need to just go all the way at this point. Hughes, Williams, McCoy, Taylor. Fire sale it. And I say this as someone who is not a proponent of tanking in football. But might as well now. How must Kyle Williams feel? We convince the dude not to retire because we plan on competing, then make our team markedly worse after the first preseason game.

Next time come up with a better argument than looking at a stat sheet, seeing similar numbers (minus the 4.2 YPC which is being conveniently ignored), and saying there's not much difference. I watch more football than is healthy to watch, and to say Watkins and Matthews are pretty close as players is either the height of ignorance or a shocking level of homerism. There are reasons to like the trade (team building, get value whole you can, etc), but "not much difference" isn't one of them. In a past life I was supportive of taking Bray in the mid rounds

Edelman can be great in how own right while also benefitting from playing with Brady. "One of the best of his era" was probably overstating it, but he's a hell of a player.
-
You yourself said you don't follow football very closely.
-
For entirely different reasons... Also, getting a bazooka targets isn't necessarily the same as needing to get a bazillion targets. That you're comparing the way Matthews gets his numbers to how Welker did and Edelman does, says a lot about your grasp of the game. None of it good. Edit 2: Seriously, Edelman and Welker are two of the best slot receivers of their era. Matthews is...a...slot receiver. That's about where the comparison ends. Unless all you're doing is looking at YPC at pro football reference.
-
We may well be worse than the Browns. Kizer is gonna be good.
-
This is my shocked face.
-
He is. Which is why he needs a bazillion targets to get yards. He's not a horrible player on the whole or anything, but this "not much of a step down from Watkins" is lunacy.
-
Zach Bogosian is the best player I ever saw on (insert beer league team here). For now. Just wait for the season to play out, a bunch of the QBs disappoint, and everyone says to wait for next year's class which we just know will be the year to take a QB. The endless cycle of the NFL draft. The only time I've ever seen the year in advance QB waiting game work out was with Andrew Luck.
-
I'll take Brady and any coach over Belichick and Cody Kessler and whoever else the Browns have trotted out in recent years.
-
Lots of guys can get 900 yards with over 100 targets. Matthews had 804 yards on 117 targets last year. He had 3 TDs. He was 48th in the league in receiving yards. Whoop de freaking doo. He's Robert Woods. As to injuries, Sammy missed two games in his first two season. Yes, he was cooked last year...by a very serious injury that also ruined years for scrubs like Julio Jones and Dez Bryant.
-
But again, trading a guy you don't want to pay, or trading someone you think is about to decline, is not the same thing as cutting someone for not "eating/breathing/sleeping" football. FYI, they brought in Rodney Harrison, and he retired a Patriot. Sorry, my friend, you've fallen for the hype.
-
That might be true, but it has more to do with Jared Goff being a CFL caliber quarterback than anything about the two receivers.
-
Who? They trade guys regularly rather than pay them, but that's not the same thing. They employ guys like Blount and Moss. They're just like any other team in this regard. Watkins first two seasons were better by a fair margin than any of Matthews' three. In a run heavy offense featuring EJ Manuel for one of those seasons. Yes, he had an injury ruined season last year, but he's head and shoulders above Matthews as a player. Matthews is one of those guys who a quick glance at the stat sheet he looks okay, but then you watch him play and he's not very good.
