    Evander Kane hasn't scored in 5 games, and is playing just as poopy as Eichel and everyone else on the team. Paid for by taxes on my tuition waiver :(

    I'm not making any excuses, we simply disagree on why they're as bad as they are. I dunno. I think a lot of people subconsciously want the mental issues to be real because it's easier to shake things up with a trade or two than to find half a roster of good players, with a few top-end ones among the new additions. The former can be fixed by next season, the latter will take years.

    I don't think they got dumber, I just think seeing the same problems with a new coach has shifted the microscope from the coaching to the players. These guys, for the most part, are who they were last year.

    I really don't think mental toughness has anything to do with it. We have a collection of dumb players. They just lack good hockey instincts.

    I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with system or scheme. Bylsma was coaching an approach that is not suited for today's NHL, and Housley has managed to annihilate the powerplay. That stuff matters. But it's clear there are still significant problems with the on-ice talent.

    I just ran the NHL lottery simulator. Your top-3? Philly, Carolina, Chicago. Somehow, that was more painful than this game.

    Maybe? I dunno, I've seen even the best players make inexplicable decisions from time to time. I just don't buy that he made the pass because subconsciously he knew nobody was going to yell at him in the locker room.

    I disagree. I just think we have a collection of dumb hockey players. Just not a heck of a lot of hockey sense out there, especially on the blue line.

    It's almost as if trading Taylor Hall for a low end #4 defender, cap-dumping Eberle a year before they had to, and attaching a Lucic-sized boat anchor to McDavid, were all bad ideas. Shocking, that.

    It's hard for me to describe how excited I was to go to this game with my family when we picked it as part of a mini pack, versus how unexcited I am to go now. At least we're doing Hydraulic Hearth for dinner.

    He was playing a third of the snaps. The turnovers didn't dry up because we traded a rotational player.

    Uh huh. Just look at earlier in this thread, people talking about how the randomness of turnovers is overstated, and the type we were generating were coached and repeatable. Blah blah blah.
