  1. How dare you. I'm mad too, but at least choose Tampa or something.
  2. Trouble finishing on opportunities in prime areas? He'll fit right in!
  3. Seriously, by the time we're a playoff team, we'll have flushed the first 6 years of Jack's career down the toilet. Well, if you cancel it and decide to watch the Sabres on bad internet streams, the pixelation should distort the terribleness a bit.
  4. No argument here. You and I don't usually agree, but we're on the same page with this one.
  5. If LaVar goes mysteriously missing, can we just assume LeBron had one of his entourage do it?
  6. American. NCAA. Say it with me!
  7. Well, yea. I'm with you there  As you said, they're upgrades on Larsson and Pouliot. But that probably shouldn't be the bar at which a ROR trade is measured  Currently, on their best days, they're 3rd line players. On their worst? Hello 4th baby!
  8. Eh. I'm fully on board with using cap space to acquire assets through absorbing bad contracts. Cap space is an asset that way. I think it's smart to do.
  9. Right. If we had gotten Thomas or Kyrou, I wouldn't have liked the trade, but I wouldn't be ranting about it either. It would have made sense, even if I disagreed with the chosen direction. But if reports are true, Botterill had targeted Thompson. Ugh.
  10. Botterill has no plans to win this year or probably next. Might as well use that window to absorb bad contracts to gain assets. It'd at least be logical.
  11. Maybe it did, but I've never really understood this from a team perspective. If it's not affecting the on-ice play, who cares? And if O'Reilly decided to tank it next season, it's not like his trade value would have been much worse. Hell, maybe we'd have been able to trade him without getting "players" (see also: bad contracts) in return!
  12. Ben Franklin once said (paraphrasing) that beer is how we know God wants us to be happy. I respectfully disagree. Beer is how we know God knew life would suck, so he gave us something to help cope. I suggest you get with the supplied coping mechanism :p
  13. I'd imagine a sizable Reinhart extension is on the way. Maybe we can work another Sheary-like deal for a team in cap trouble? I'm not expecting anything huge, though. His timetable is not this season.
  14. Well, in the next 3 years I suppose we can compete for one of the two wild card spots. But we're probably not going to look better on paper than at least Toronto and Tampa. Maybe Boston, if Bergeron starts to age out. I wouldn't have complained if we had traded O'Reilly for Parayko straight up, much less as part of a package. I'd be emotionally sad because I love O'Reilly as a player, but that would have been fair on-ice value.
  15. If O'Reilly sulked in the locker room and that actually helped crater the team on the ice...do we really think the remaining pieces have the mental toughness to fight through adversity? I don't really believe in this stuff impacting performance on the ice, but even if I did, this still wouldn't make me feel better. A moody teammate in the locker room sinks the team despite playing great on the ice? Talk about some mental weakness...
  16. When they're in the 20s they sure as hell are.
  17. And like Colorado, I hope we see a similar jump in the standings after expunging the locker room cancer that is Ryan O'Reilly. Wait, Colorado missed the playoffs 3 straight seasons after trading him? Oh.... His evaluation period ended with the ROR trade. This is too big of a move to give benefit of the doubt on, I think, after the team tanked in the standing during Botterill's first season. Maybe, or maybe it's a combination of several things that added up for him.
  18. And they had to move O'Reilly to make it happen, as there is no precedent for passing off leadership responsibility without jettisoning your second best player. *glances in San Jose's direction*
  19. No, but it's less boring now
  20. As a huge proponent of trying Reinhart at center last year....I've seen enough of that. He's not an NHL center. Wires crossed here. I know I quoted you, but I was really just making another complaint about the trade, not directly addressing what you said. Carry on :)
  21. Saying O'Reilly took 3 months off is such a gross exaggeration I almost don't want to justify it with a response. He had a rough few weeks this year, that's it. And the trade made today is going to put is in the hole for a season or two at least. So I think it's okay to still hate on it, ya dig? Mike Harringtonā€Verified account @ByMHarrington 37m37 minutes agoMore Botterill on timing of bonus payment: "If it went past midnight today, the asking price was certainly going to be a lot different." #Sabres :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash: The fact that you, who has regularly railed on O'Reilly, feels this way...that says a lot.
  22. Also, Turris is way better than Berglund and Sobotka. Minor detail, though ;) Edit: If we had gotten a Turris-level player back, I wouldn't be bitching at all.
  23. This trade is actually pretty close to what I thought we'd get. That's part of the reason I didn't want to trade him.
  24. I was. Regularly. You're still railing on Tim Murray who has been gone for over a year, but the rest of us can't be pissed about a trade that happened hours ago?
  25. He also thinks O'Reilly is too slow but Couturier isn't. Couturier is many things, but fast isn't one of them.
