GDT: Sabres at Rangers, Sun 11/4/18, 7:00 pm

Bad pass from Nelson, but great breakup right after. We've gotten lots of luck on icing calls this season. I feel like we've lost quite a few races and yet gotten the call anyway Risto with the boom -
That doesn't answer any of freeman's questions. He's being handled very strangely by the team, including being practiced as a defenseman.

This game is hard to read. The Rangers still have that quick forecheck, but we're weathering it right now. -

Mitts can't keep losing those pucks in the center The ref was starting to raise his arm with Buchnevich's stick in Scandy's legs - he lost his balance but didn't fall and the ref put his arm down. I think. -

He never won, never allowed fewer than 3 goals, and was pulled 75% of the time. I remember doing the legwork a year ago. That's the case for all goalies, they suck the second game of a back to back. We still threw him out there in that situation like 8 times despite consistently bad results. -
Will the Sabres outscore the Bills this week?

I believe we're averaging exactly three goals per game, so Taro is probably the safest bet. If it's safe to use a small number just recently skewed by a 9 goal output -

Meh. The Sabres could easily not outscore the Bills and still go 3-0 this week. -
Didn't watch but the score reminds me so much of when we played the Bears in 2006 and lost like 40-7. I was about 11 years old. After the game I drew a Bears logo very carefully on some nice paper and then slowly cut it to pieces with scissors

The Sabres have only 3 games this week. They'll score 2 tonight in a 4-2 loss, 1 in MTL in a 3-1 loss, and then 4 against Vancouver in a 4-3 win. That's seven, and the Bills got nine, so nope. -
GDT Ottawa Senators vs Buffalo Sabres 7:30pm ET 11/1/18

The tank teams you mean? I've been a Sabres fan since 2005 and I've never seen a team have less effort than the Nolan tank teams. Of course, this wasn't Nolan's fault, because the players had a hard time getting up to play the 60+ games in the middle of the season where they knew they were the worst team in the league and knew it was on purpose and didn't feel like they should work hard, and I don't blame them. But I still carry the scars from those seasons, which both from an effort standpoint (outside of the 10 wins in 13 games in December or so of the first tank year) and a hockey stand point is by far the worst I've ever seen from any team. They quit and didn't skate orders of magnitude more often than last year's Sabres or any Sabres I've ever seen, and it's burned into my memory because I watched every single agonizing second of it. We STILL talk about purging guys like Risto and Zemgus of the lazy bad habits they developed in those very seasons. That Nolan's tank teams worked hard is a meme and a myth. -

https://theathletic.com/631855/2018/11/03/shift-by-shift-look-reinhart-has-fine-day-as-sabres-get-fans-shouting/ Good article on Samson's game yesterday from Vogl. Sorry to link an article behind a paywall, but worth the read if you have the Athletic. -

On mobile doohickie's post was hard to see all of, but it didn't affect anything else. On my laptop everything is golden. -

Man oh man it'd be sweet to win this one. It always seems that we get a letdown after yesterday-type-games though. Let's take a look. December 1, 2007 we beat Carolina 8-1 and lost the next game four days later against the Ducks, 4-1. January 18, 2008 we beat Atlanta 10-1, and lost the next evening in Toronto, 4-2. October 13, 2008 we beat NYI 7-1, won our next game two days later against the Rangers 3-1. Jan 27, 2009 we beat Edmonton 10-2. Lost to Calgary 5-2 the following night. March 27, 2010 we beat Tampa 7-1 and won our next game two days later in Boston. March 19 2011 we beat Atlanta 8-2 and lost our next game to Nashville, 4-3 in OT the following night. The three games we played the next night after blowout wins of 6 or more goals were all losses. Let's change that tonight boys! -
How many bones did he break when they did that?

I know this board (me) has already blown up over this, but it's amazing how hockey is a team game until we need some goofy agenda to be satisfied, and then it all falls on one single player (the clear best player on their team in the words of every single Blues fan to post in the "your team's best player" thread on hfboards a week or so ago), and that one player ISN'T a bottom 2 starting goaltender in the entire league. And it's amazing how I can't keep myself from commenting on it. You know better Flagg

Larsson was never McDavid, but he was a better player before that injury than anything he showed after up to this year. -

Even if they don't score very often at all, they're doing exactly what we all envisioned - if you look at the shot attempt numbers for them, they're both winning the battle, AND keeping both shots for and against low (only 20 minutes fewer than the ~90 the Jack line has played together, but less than half of the total shots taken by both teams combined in that stretch). That's an incredibly valuable tool to have at your disposal. It's bonus that Larry has rebounded and had a very nice season so far.
