  1. Wait, you aren't interested in a fourth straight year of "we're in games" and "we hope to play meaningful games down the stretch" meaning hoping to be within ten points in February, and assertions that it's all a growth process being used to describe the fact that we suck because we don't have enough NHL capable players, ignoring the fact that many of those players simply won't ever get there?
  2. I learned that I was only 45 minutes away from Joe Exotic lol
  3. In Oklahoma I once went longer than two weeks doing this
  4. I'm not interested in changing DNA, I'm interested in giving the face of our franchise a solid team around him for once. The Dahlin hypothetical could do that, but an Eichel one throws the Abby out with the bath water, or some cliche like that So that's why I say no to this one
  5. I'm really not trying to build trades to judge on a "would you do this" base, but a "does this sort of resemble the Lindros return" base
  6. We can only know so much about that kind of thing (very little) I do recall Jason or someone mentioning they sometimes have to shoo him out of the facilities hours after the players have finished for the day
  7. I would encourage everyone to find the Levi Wallace threads on two bills drive to see what he's been up to. He's awesome. I can link them from my laptop tomorrow
  8. It's really hard to even find a team that has a set of assets like Duda, Neo, sweetlou describe. If I were to guess what Dahlin could get in return today, it's more like two good roster players, a good prospect, and a first. Increase the quality of any of those and you can start to subtract them. Schenn, Schwartz, Thomas, and a 1st from STL. Pesce, Teuvo, Necas and a 1st from Carolina. Marchessault, Theodore, Glass and a 1st from Vegas Zibanejad, Buchnevich, Shestyorkin and a 1st from NYR Domi, Gallagher, that college kid, 1st from Montreal This is just wild speculation on my part, I truly have no idea and I'd pay big bucks to hear GMs hash this out as a hypothetical
  9. This is the kind of thing I was looking for. Ricci wasn't quite a point per game player, but he had nice production before going to Quebec. His first two years his stat lines were: that's Games, goals, assists, points, PIM, plus minus. The season before the trade, Ricci was 120th in NHL scoring, but apparently was seen as a nice young player. Duchesne looks even better than you remember: A top five Norris finish earlier in his career, in his prime, coming off of five straight seasons over 50 points. He was 16th in defensive points per game in 91/92. He was 6th a few seasons prior. We'll say that Forsberg was viewed similar to how, maybe, Barkov was viewed had Barkov stayed in Finland? I know Forsberg eventually ended up becoming something of a legend, but we'll give him Barkov-level clout pre-NHL for the purpose of this exercise. Hextall: This was a pretty good goalie, about to enter his prime, right? Huffman: The low-scoring defenseman that I think lou is referring to Simon: a nice prospect, nothing crazy. First round pick, cash. So, would a comparable trade be something like: Dahlin to Vancouver for Gaudette (Ricci), Horvat (forward Duchesne), Brock Boeser (similar value to Forsberg pre-NHL?), Markstrom, Stetcher, a prospect, and a first rounder? Dahlin to Tampa for Johnson (Ricci), McDonagh (Duchesne), Cirelli (Forsberg, less value but NHL proven), pretend they have a good goalie to give us, Coburn, a prospect, and a first rounder? Dahlin to Carolina for Staal (Ricci), Pesce (Duchesne), Svechnikov (Forsberg), Mrazek, Gardiner, and a 1st? Dahlin to Colorado for Compher (Ricci), Rantanen (Duchesne), Makar (Forsberg), Grubauer, Zadorov and a 1st? These trades may be way off in comparison, but I'd make them all, and I don't think Dahlin would fetch anywhere near those returns.
  10. That's a pretty good way to do it. I lose track of all those middle six Nashville forwards anyway. for all I know, everything I think I know about Smith is actually about Jarnkrok
  11. I'm going to amend my previous statement - I don't really know what the perception of Forsberg or those other players were at the time of the trade. Could Eleven, or someone else, do their best to recreate an equivalent-value group of players from a team today? @Taro T, @dudacek ?
  12. Hell yeah. That haul is absolutely absurd. Would I trade Dahlin for what he'd likely get? Probably not, but I'd have to see what the offers are.
  13. Goes to show how unreliable positional listings are on the internet, then. That being said, it's not Mojo part 2. We brought in Mojo to play 2C, so that our center spine was Eichel - 2C who is really a 3W - Mitts - Larsson. I emphasize acquiring a 2C, so that we have Eichel - 2C - xxx - 4C, and that xxx is one of 3 guys who have played center at some point in their careers - that third line is entirely "kinda centers." a much more acceptable scenario, on a less important line, than what we did with Mojo this yaer.
  14. I (reluctantly!) withdraw my criticism of the Sabres
  15. Assuming we get Reinhart and Olofsson signed, I'd love to get Craig Smith. Skinner - Eichel - xxx Olofsson - xxx - Reinhart Kahun - Craig Smith - Johansson xxx - xxx - Okposo pray we can keep one or both of Zemgus/Larry, and maybe Asplund is ready, and the fourth line is done. Worst case scenario is Asplund - Lazar - Kyle, which might not be so bad. Plus if our 3rd line is that good, it'd be far easier to not overwhelm the 4th one. Then you're looking at finding the 2C, and the top line winger doesn't have to be some superstar - Pominville two years ago didn't sink the line, just find somebody that fits in. Doable. The problem is, if those xxx's come from a pool of Simmonds, Mitts, Cozens, Tage, and a typical Botterill forward, then we're still going to suck Even if we keep Jason we can be ready to make the playoffs next year, his body of work just scares the ***** out of me And he'd probably prefer to give a million less to a bad player than to pay Craig Smith (who I honestly don't know that much about haha)
  16. That's weird. That's actually the game we streamed instead, from a different youtube account
  17. Ducky out here talking like we haven't been drooling over Cirelli for a year or longer Sorry bro you can't have him he is ours
  18. My family all sat down last night to watch Monday's game, and it wasn't there. get it together, Sabres. You literally have nothing else to do
  19. I'm pretty sure I'd be down with Craig Smith.
  20. Assuming Jason stays, I think it's highly likely we end up keeping Wayne. So you're giving me something to hope for if that happens.
  21. Why would you want to write a bad and finished player into any lineup spot for any amount of money? That's what our problem is in the first place.
  22. Y'all are talking about the first reboot right? Not the one recently in theaters, like around Christmas id recommend just skipping the second one
  23. everything you disagree with is a hot take that needs to take a break, and an overreaction and a flagrant lack of common sense and rabid, unhinged, misguided emotion. Triumph_communes versus the world Seriously, there exist rational takes that are at odds with yours, believe it or not Mitts' hands cannot deke NHL players create space for himself create passing lanes for himself hang onto pucks in anything resembling tight quarters ergo, they're bad This is not a declaration that they will forever be bad, of course, or that players can't develop. Just a disagreement with the idea that Mitts has skillz
  24. His film The guy lost every puck he ever acquired and has zero hands plays to date in his time spanning parts of three seasons I'm more impressed by Tyler Bozak's ability to hang onto a puck in traffic than any aspect of Mitts' hands outside of the shootout and Bozak has the most average hands in existence
