  1. I disagree. Regher's job was to free up some of Doughty's offensive potential. It worked reasonably well after the trade, so well that it earned Robyn a two year contract extension. The Kings were not beaten by Regehr's lack of offense or limited outlet pass ability or whatever people tried to pin on him. The Kings lost to a better team first and foremost. If you want to lay the defeat at someones feet you have to start with Dustin Brown, Anze Kopitar and even Jordan Nolan and Dwight King. The Kings of this season's playoff were not able to replicate a number of the keys to winning last year, but most important they were not able to establish their insane forecheck. How much that is due to teams having a year to prepare for it, and how much can be attributed to the decline of the fourth line is debatable. Dustin Brown reverting back to the player affectionately known as Derpstin Brown by LA fans (the toe-dragging, wiped out into the boards Brown as opposed to hard net crashing Dustin Brown) didn't help. Anze Kopitar's no show was a huge issue as soon as teams could shut down Jeff Carter. Injuries to key players unlike last year. These are all factors that actually cost the Kings this year, unlike the defensive play of Robyn Regher.
  2. I wouldn't say the Kings have been lucky (maybe a little lucky with injuries last year), but they have gotten figured out. Chicago has the speed and talent to break out cleanly against their forecheck time and time again, and it's killing the Kings. The times the Kings actually catch someone and gets a chance to lay down some hits and apply pressure, the Hawks have the skill and confidence to absorb it and turn the play back up the ice. Also the Kings have to deal with injuries this year which they didn't have to last year.
  3. Hey! Might not be the size of Lake Superior, but there are lakes in LA! I get how maybe a more defining body of water for Los Angeles would be the ocean though.
  4. All great changes, now move on to automatic icing and mandating larger ice surface. The game will be safer, and more entertaining.
  5. Easy win for the Coho, but this years award is obviously rigged! Datsuyk on both sides of the bracket???
  6. After dismissing the Sedin twins ESP goal, Hodgson goes up against another soft Euro. I voted Hodgson without even bothering to watch the videos this time. http://poy.tsn.ca/
  7. Why do I suddenly want ridiculously overprices flavored coffee?
  8. How about this one. If Scott can be relied upon to play 10 minutes a game on the 4th line, instead of just two shifts every other game, we can get rid of Nathan Gerbe and use his roster spot to get an actual NHL player? I hope it can be done, perhaps that is being too optimistic.
  9. Obviously, for the privilege of getting to own a franchise like the Buffalo Sabres, and as a tribute to it's fans, the prudent thing to would be to ignore all economic reality and just lower the prices to 1970 levels. Pegula is rich after all, so who is he to look at the obvious demand for the product and price it accordingly? He, of all people, should know that it would be expected of him to not only take huge losses on the operation of the Sabres, he should do what he can to maximize these losses and cover them out of his own pocket. He did after all say something about drilling another well once.
  10. I have resigned to stinking, but that's not because John Scott would be called upon for some regular 4th line shifts. We will stink because we are overloaded with Flynn's, Gerbe's and Porters, and have a one person 1st line.
  11. I feel that Scott got more responsibility as a regular shifts player than management and he himself originally had thought. I would like to see him used even more. Aside from a pretty severe lack of speed he generally performed much better than I expected. One of the success criteria for me this next season is if John Scott scores one or more goals for the Sabres, I would love to see it.
  12. Obviously, at under 6 feet and below 200 pounds, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg are both way too small to play for the Buffalo Sabres.
  13. Drew Stafford needs to stay, if for nothing else it will keep the fans from turning on their next scapegoat.
  14. I voted yes, but only because I would accept it, not because I would think it's a good idea. Just secured a regular spot this year, it would be a pretty big slap in the face of more established players. If it was up to me I would troll the entire league and make Kaleta captain
  15. Good for the game in America, fantastic at crosses and deadly free kicks, average midfielders in all other areas, retired 5 years too late.
  16. That is a nasty knee by Edler. I'd be pissed if I cared about the Carolina Hurricanes
  17. I was just trying to be a little funny. I will just say this thought: Baseball is a lot more than 15 guys watching one guy swing a stick at a ball another guy throws. If that was the true essence of the sport, no one would ever watch it. When I first started watching baseball that is what it looked like to me, and it looked like an insanely boring game without meaning. One cannot appreciate baseball until you get into the details of the strategy as baseball is a almost 100% strategy driven game. The same is true for soccer. In it's essence, soccer is a game of space, structure and geometry. If one does not understand how and why teams open and close space constantly it's impossible to enjoy the game. Without the ability to see and analyze a teams structure on the field, the game reduces down to just 22 guys chasing a ball around and in the end the Germans win. I think that at the core level, hockey and soccer are a lot closer related than many think. It's a little difficult to see the similarities on the small NHL rinks, but if you watch international hockey they are easier to spot. Just a parting shot: I find American football to be one of the most boring sports in the world. It's 5 seconds of guys playing smear the ###### followed by 40 seconds of people just standing around. As if standing around isn't boring enough, the standing around is frequently interrupted by commercial breaks. And to slow down the process even more, each team has virtually unlimited time outs, video challenges and who knows what.
  18. Oh yeah?! Your second favorite sport that I don't follow or understand is equally to or more slow moving and boring
  19. I think Gundogan is similar to Schweinsteiger, perhaps too similar? Creative, good positioning, excellent passing and can shoot from long range. Typically though, when you play 4-2-3-1 you want one ball winner and one ball distributor in your Defensive mids. I guess Schweinsteiger can do anything, but if I was Germany I would free him up to follow the play forward.
  20. Is Gundogan a strong enough tackler and ball winner to play next to Schweinsteiger? I would think the preferred balance would be to have Schweinsteiger distribute balls, make runs and shoot from distance, while his complement would be responsible for winning the ball and feeding it to him? I would think Germany wanted a more stout defensive midfielder to play the part that Khedira had in Soft Africa?
  21. I know, I hope the series goes to 8 games and they both lose. If that is not possible I'd rather see Toronto than thew Bruins advance. I hate both hockey teams, but I guess I hate the Bruins just a little bit more. Also, there is the fact that I consider the Bruins to have a better chance at winning it all than Toronto, so if the Leafs advance, I have high hopes they will be eliminated in the next round
  22. It will be interesting to see how he matches up against Spain if they meet again in 2014. I think the last World Cup demonstrated that Argentina does not have enough quality around Messi to dominate midfield like Spain loves to do. Schweinsteiger is always in great position, but does he have the engine to keep pressure as high up in the field as they will need to do? Or do you think the forward three midfielders and Klose will be able to bring enough pressure on their own? That said, with the quality in midfield Germany will have who knows if Spain will be able to hold onto the ball to the extent they like? Who do you think Germany will play as their front 3 midfielders in the World Cup? Muller and Ozil for sure I would guess? Schweinsteiger behind the attacking three also a shoe in, but who takes the spot next to him? Time will tell I guess, but I can't wait to see what happens in the World Cup and if Spain can adjust to the heavy ball pressure I am sure all teams will attempt now.
  23. In that case I understand why your answer left me unsatisfied
