  1. Sunshine thought of the day: It is entirely plausible that the Sabres will relocate before they get rid of Darcy Regier.
  2. You make sense if we're talking a straight trade for Filppula, but my point was in response to the news that Detroit will try to trade his negotiating rights if they can't get closer to a deal. Let's just say that Detroit would be all over trading his negotiating rights for Thomas Vanek. It would also be one of the dumbest moves ever on the part of Buffalo. Typically the negotiating rights to expiring players who are not going to resign are worth a 4th round pick as mentioned before, and while I agree that Filppula is underrated by many, he is not underrated to the point where you would trade Thomas Vanek for the rights to negotiate with him.
  3. If Detroit are serious about trading away the rights to negotiate with Filppula, it won't cost us Vanek to get those rights. Of course, who knows what Filppula would have to say about going to Buffalo, or what other teams would line up for a crack at him.
  4. Yeah, I had the same experience when I read it, could not put it down. Alan Karlsson is a MAN! The book runs out of steam a little bit towards the end, but it's still a great whimsical read.
  5. I would be very happy to see Filppula as a Sabre if the terms are somewhat within reason. Hey! It's another Finn to play with Armia. Leino - Filppula - Armia : The Sisu line!
  6. Patrick Kane is the kind of player that Darcy Regier has finally realized that the Sabres are not getting through trade or free agency, they come along as very high drafts picks, in Kane's case a number 1 overall pick. And he's not only a great fit for the Sabres, he would be a great fit for every single team in the league.
  7. In all fairness, the KHL salary cap has a provision that allowed for up to two players to be designated as franchise players that don't count towards the cap. So, in essence the same lawless communist greed system that is in place in Major League Soccer for example.
  8. Didn't notice the lines in particular, but I did notice that with a few minutes left in the game, Nick Leddy suddenly made an appearance and seemed to be all over the ice. Drawing a penalty and getting looks in the offensive zone, taking the play to Boston etc. Seemed obvious that Quenneville was trying to exploit the fatigue of Boston. Seems like he was on to something.
  9. It's a first round pick, not the #1 pick (in all likelihood)
  10. I disagree, I think that would be a much too strict standard for bans, and also feel it would be a quite arbitrary threshold for bannable offenses.
  11. I share your optimism in regards to Zemgus. I am hoping to see him up with the big club this year. So far, seems like an excellent pick and a redeeming factor in the midst of a torrent of Darcy Regier hatred.
  12. I actually like Andrew Peters contributions to the show, but you are right, there are too many instances of the above. I hope he is aware of this shortcoming and works on not seizing the mic until he has clearly formed the point he wants to make. It's ok to take a little extra time if that's needed to make the thoughts line up in your mind. I would much more like to see Kevin Sylvester replaced by Brian Duff than getting rid of Peters. Duff is good, and also understands how to make better use of what Andrew Peters can bring to the show. That said, Brian Duff is probably too good an asset to waste on the fourth line of media offerings from the Sabres. All in all, I enjoy the show as it gives me something to listen to on the way in to work, and every now and then they have some very interesting guests on as well.
  13. Darcy said he thinks there might be 6 elite prospects at the top of the draft, any ideas who #6 would be? Lindholm?
  14. I watch a lot more Bobby Ryan hockey than I care for, and he is not the most talented player in the world. Look at his goals scored number all you want, I am confident that if the Sabres truly are looking for hard working players, they have 0 interest in Bobby Ryan.
  15. If you love Drew Stafford, you will absolutely adore Bobby Ryan. Even more talented, and even spottier work ethic.
  16. You are up against an organized effort of Russian ballot-stuffers and other delinquents that has propped up good plays by Datsyuk through out the competition to get their Datsyuk on Datsyuk final. TSN asked for this to happen when they put Datsyuk on both sides of the bracket.
  17. With the Sabres owner recently praising work ethic, I am not nervous about the Sabres making a move to get Bobby Ryan this year.
  18. No doubt, and predictably Datsuyk is out to a slight lead early, 83.5% vs 16.5 %
  19. The last round of the POY voting for Hodgson is now up. If you want to register your futile vote the link is still http://poy.tsn.ca/. However, since the vote is rigged and the universe wants to see Datsuyk vs Datsuyk your vote will be similar to any vote you may have cast in the presidential election: useless.
  20. I'd gladly take Patrick Kane on the Sabres of we could package him in a deal to Nashville for their 4th pick and turn that into Aleksander Barkov. :)
  21. It's not crazy, and if Vanek stays on board we'd have a pretty solid first line. Problem is we still have problems with the supporting cast. That said, we need to bring in high level elite talent, and it would be hard to argue that Kane doesn't represent exactly that. That said again, it's a pipe dream with no real grounds in reality.
  22. I hope affordable personal cold fusion reactors are made available before the zombie apocalypse. Would be a game changer.
  23. I guess my dual layered joke didn't catch on :(
