  1. That's the war of 1812 in a nutshell. And our national anthem is a British drinking song.

I thought that was what I heard the English huligans singing, while waving the Saint George's Cross, at English matches at the European Championship.

  2. The War of 1812 on the Niagara Frontier, by Louis J. Babcock. Published in 1927 by the Buffalo Historical Society. The writing is incredibly dull and dry, but that'smost likely because it is written by an academic. Otherwise, it's a very detailed look at a critical theater of a war that most of us Americans don't know much about.

I may be wrong on this, but is not the War of 1812 the only war the US lost, well I guess "tied" may be a better term. Over the years most Canadians view it as a Canadian victory, as the invading hords from the US did not capture any Canadian territory ... just yanging your chain ... :P .

Also, did not a battle during the war give rise to the lyrics of the US national anthem?

  3. you belong in Alabama

    not gonna lie...I laughed.

It's OK ... he signed out just after his post.

    dEnnis ...

Did you laugh about my post or his?

While I do not agree with his views I will defend his right to have and express them, but ...

... only to a point, as we have hate crimes laws on the books in Canada and it is a very fine line, but he is not in Canada.

  4. Is there any single poster who has derailed more threads?

    Awesome post, but ...

... which derailer do you mean?

Yes it is, but it does not apply to privately owned discussion forums. Chz recently banned FireLindyRuffNow, did she violate his freedom of speech?

I think she saved us from having to read him express his freedom of speech ...

For which I am thankful. That guy was hard to follow somethimes.

Seems she banned him for admitting he was a previously banned member and not for anything he recently posted, but I may be wrong on that.

  5.

You might want to follow your own advice.

The same kind of "practice" that was allowed to happen in both the Greek and Roman empires also led to their downfall. History has proven that when such things have been given mainstream acceptance and approval have wound up wiping out entire cultures and societies - and it looks like history may be repeating itself.

Imagine these words ringing true, and people several hundred years from now reading this post, seeing how Western culture basically destroyed itself, and them saying, "Man, that guy was right. Many like him tried to warn them but they wouldn't listen. Now they have nothing to show for it except for their own self-destruction."

I do read scripture, but not with blinders on. I do not want to get into a debate with you, Crosschecking.

While I do not agree with most of what you are saying I do agree with the bolded and underlined part of your post, but not for the reasons you think. God has destroyed many civilizations and cultures and will many more, as stated in scripture. Primarily for the reason that these civilizations partook in the one unforgivable sin ... placing false gods before God. In western culture a vast majority are, IMO, placing the false gods of money, prestige and goods over the true God. This will, again IMO, lead to the downfall you predict.

    /end rant

... not that there is anything wrong with that ...

  6. Well, since you mention it, THIS IS FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!

Now, if only our duly elected politicians would actually have the balls to stand up to a possible 1% of the American population that wants uber-rights to throw their perverse deviancy in everyone's faces. As it is, I am a firm believer that the long-since dead citizens of Sodom and Gomorrah aggressively advocated "gay rights." Look at where it got them. #justsayin'

My understanding was the Almighty was not against the acts, but that men RAPING men was rampant in Sodom and Gomorrah. One must read scripture very carefully. Just sayin'.

  7. I hate to say it, but I wouldn't want to work in those buildings.

    Wow!

I think this is the second time I have agreed with you today.

And probably the second time I have agreed with you in all the months I've been a member of this board ...

    :P ...

  8. I have to drop a very significant amount of money next week. The item and reason are material for the friday thread (which I won't be sharing), but the new monthly bill is going to be frustrated for a while.

CONGRATS!...This is only the beginning of the frustration.

Let me second LPF's congatulations ...

My hope is for you and your bride to enjoy many years of wedded bliss.

Speaking from experience (our 24th anniversary is coming this October) it will not always be a walk in the park, with many challenges in this life. Just remember that you are a team now and nothing should come between you ... not friends, not family of origin. You two are a family now and that is most important.

  9. ..and now for something completely different...

I'm not all that churchy (I should say that I'm not churchy,.. at all), but I played another church service on Wednesday. It might not show up on top but it's called Wednesday Jazz Concert. Hope you like it.

My tune is at the 18:50 mark.

    Only lurking these days ...

While Jazz is not my "cup of tea", IMO, Allah (God) has blessed you with an immense talent.

    A wonderful performance.

  10. Digitizing and dumping of our entire DVD collection.

On our desktop computer, we have a grand total of 7.5TB of storage, split over 6 drives. 3 2TB drives, 3 500GB drives. 1 drive is dedicated to movies for our home theater network. We've had over 300 movies kicking around in DVD/BD format for years--yea, decades. Over the course of the last several months, I've been ripping them to this drive. It's been a labor-intensive effort, but it is done.

Right now, an overwhelming vast majority of our movie discs are sitting at the local exchange shop, awaiting to be checked and tallied for a cash offer. I have an idea of what they'll fetch, but realistically speaking, I'm just happy to have them gone. At this point, I'm past keeping movies on disc when there are so many various ways to store them withouth taking up a lot of shelf space. I'd rather do that and have a more clean looking environment than have them kicking around. AND the beauty is that ANY of these movies can be played on our TV, or on our iPhones (not AirPlay; Air Video). If you're not familiar with it, I'd highly recommend checking it out.

Not to burst your bubble, but ...

What if that drive goes stupid on you?

  11. My girl is visiting. nice to have someone around the house.

Would that be your daughter? ... :P .

    /----

The good feeling after a reassuring conversation with a good friend who understands your problem.

    ... F'N fantastic!

  12. I mentioned it here because Rob Ray mentioned it on WGR earlier this week.

Sorry, but I must have missed that post ... this thread is on page 22 now ... ;) .

The story I saw was someplace else. So, with two mentions in the news, it must be true ... to quote Joe Jackson "... they wouldn't print it if were not true ..." ... shout out to Neo! :flirt: .

  13. The wonder in my mind is now whether Kassian was trade bait all along.

Foligno has been in development in the minors which is the normal organization MO, while Kassian might have been brought up too soon.

Kassian will probably see 4th line minutes in Vancouver while Foligno has been getting much more ice time.

Compare ...Foligno logging first line AHL minutes while Kassian logging 4th line NHL minutes. Makes me wonder.

There was a story I read somewhere (on CBC.com I think, but cannot confirm, so take this for what it is worth) that the Sabres were supposedly shopping Kassian quietly since December.

  14. Exactly my point. Which is precisely why they WEREN'T a reflection of Lindy Ruff at that moment.

    GO SABRES!!!

I think the players were a perfect reflection of LR during the immediate aftermath of the Lucic hit on Miller. The players sat on their hands and so did LR ... the exact opposite (both for LR and his players) of what happened immediately after the Neal hit on Drury.

My, oh my how things have changed.

  15. Absolutely. The Lucic game was an afront to the hockey Gods. They broke the code for the whole world to see. The thing is, and I know the usual suspects may rip me for this, I think Ruff was just as surprised by the player's reaction as we were. There have been so many times in his coaching history (not to mention his playing history) where he's deliberately sent out a posse to clean up after an event on the ice. The Neal hit on Drury comes to mind. But Lucic needed to be answered IMMEDIATELY by whomever was on the ice at the time. That's what the code calls for. And Ruff couldn't do anything but watch.

    GO SABRES!!!

I will let some others rip you apart for this ... it's not good for my disposition ... :P .

All I will say is ...

The team is a reflection of the coach and vise versa. It should not be up to LR to tell his players what to do when the Lucic incident happened.
