  1. We went to view a special screening of an Italian movie last night. It was a historical documentary about an Italian man in Budapest in 1944. The Russians had surrounded the city by then and the Germans were in panic mode. A remarkable story of a remarkable man who saved over 5,200 Jews from certain death by his wits. Since he faught for Franco during the Spanish Civil War he officially became a Spanish citizen. He pretended to be a Spanish diplomat at the embassy and gave shelter to the Jews. An incedible story.

After the film we went to our friends gourmet pizza shop. No other (fast food chain garbage) comes even close.

  2. dude..lamb than goat..in Nova Scotia???what am i missing. I love goat in almost all shapes and forms..including cheese :P

Spaghets with white clam sauce tonight......though I usually like littlenecks and all the fish monger had was cherrystones...give er a go anyway

I PM'd you that we are connected ...

  3. I have had the worst year so far. Wife lost her job, due to a rule violation they denied her unemployment benefits, my boss just notified me that due to company cutbacks I would lose my commision compensation package (27500) and I found out I owe 5 grand in taxes this year.

    Someone open the hug thread...

Consider your self to have just received the most manly of man hugs ... .

Stiff upper lip (hi Limey, or whatever you call yourself now). It is always darkest (hi D4rk) just before the dawn.

  4. I'm getting a bagel and a diet pepsi. What exactly is nasty about Tim Horton's? The popularity of the locations in WNY is off the charts.

Sorry, I assumed you were getting that nasty coffee ... I guess I just made an ass of me, but not u.

Wow, I don't know what kind of coffee they're making out east but Tim's is the ####. I've got to have my cup every morning. Just can't find another chain or store product that compares. I live in a medium sized City and there about 10 in town. No matter which one I go to there is a friggen lineup out the door and the drive throughs are a mess....

    That's the problem ...

I never go out for coffee. I make Bosnian coffee at home. The only exception I will make is to go to a new cafe run by Palestinians, who make a passable Turkish coffee, to support them.

  5. In no particular order ....

    Mogilny in his prime.

    AC/DC any time, any place.

Being pleasured orally (can I say that here)

    Chips

    HDTV

    Days off

    My kids

    My wife

Back In Black from start to finish

    Red wine

    Iphone

    F150 Ecoboost

Why not. I think everyone on the board would say they enjoy pleasurable conversation ... ... :P .

  6. Go through the Tim Hortons drive-thru this morning. Total comes to $2.91. I give the cashier a $20. She gives me $17 back and goes to get my order. When she comes back, I ask for the rest of my change, and she gives me $.91.

So the question is, does she not give a ######, or never made it past 3rd grade math?

I understand that it is a Canadian icon and very addictive, but your big mistake was going to Tim's in the first place ... that stuff is nasty.

  7. That's what I miss most about florida other than 74 and sunny all winter......the melting pot of food choices. At the racetrack there would always be good stuff like curried goat for the backside for like $5. There was a blind goat in the barn next to ours and I always wondered how he lasted so long without being lunch. Nasty lil' sob too.....he may have been blind, but he knew where crotch level was in relation to his horns.

You must have met the one nasty goat ... all the goats I know are very loving. I love eating goat and lamb, but I don't think about the deed at all ... I could never do it. I take comfort in the fact that our friends raise them with loving kindness and do the slaughter in as gentle ("halal") a way as possible.

  8. Real Coca-Cola. The kind made with sugar, and not HFCS. I don't drink soda very often, so when I do, I do it right. Damn, this stuff is good.

I hope you drank it the only proper way ... ice cold straight from the glass bottle (no drinking glass, no ice).

    Sunday night ...

Goat roast tonight ... yum yum!

  9. The way the members of this board come together and try to come up with ideas to help a fellow member in need. See yesterdays posts in the Complaint Thursday thread. Restores my faith in humanity with the loving kindness shown to Chris in UT.

    Simply AWESOME!

EDIT: NOT A SHAMELESS PLUG FOR MYSELF.

  10. We've done that. We've eliminated all white flours and refined sugars other than the occasional jelly bean or M&M as a treat. The sugars are the main culprit; there's no doubt about that. I've seen that with my own eyes. But yes--diet does indeed play a major roll ... except we've done away with the typical triggers.

    *sigh*

I actually have a headache from worrying over this.

Sorry to keep pestering you, but ...

Have you thought of "alternative" (not Western medicine) treatments ... maybe cognative therapy through a trained child Psychologist and / or a holistic approach to treatment?

    Chris,

I really feel for you and what you are going through. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Please don't take this the wring way, but ADHD is the diagnosis de jour. It's a "catch-all" and easy diagnosis ... meaning it's what is diagnosed when the docs don't want to work hard at the problem ... IMO. Have you had her tested for allergies? I am also wondering if these symptoms started once she went to school and if she is the only student diagnosed? I have heard of cases where these symptoms were brought on by something (mold, asbestos insulation ...) in the school. IMO the meds only make matters worse and will cause other problems. Docs give them out like candy and the Parms are only in it for the money.

My cousin's daughter was diagnosed and they later found out that she was "bored" and uninspired by the teacher and subject matter. They put her in a "special" one-on-one teaching situation and she has thrived.

Just some suggestions. Take them for what they are worth. I feel your pain.

    Take good care.

  12. My usual breakfast this morning ... see up thread a bit.

    Last night's supper ...

Spinach spaghetti with a red lentel and roasted red pepper sauce.

The red lentels (a great source of protein when not having meat ... we use them in every pasta dish) are cooked for about 15 minutes (or until tender) in 2 cups of water with olive oil ... nice and juicy.

Seasoned with fresh oregano ... we bring in herbs from our garden every fall to hold us over. Reminds me of a story ... we have two cats ... Jake, who lives in our house with us and Chester ... the neighbours cat who pisses in our herb garden ... I digress.

Chopped onions and yams and fresh cranberries.

Pop it all in the oven at 375 for about 40 minutes to let it all mix together nicely and to make the yam and onion tender.

With italian herb / seed bread.

    To drink ...

Me = mango juice with sparkling Bosnian mineral water.

My wife ... cranberry juice with the same water as above.

    Yum, yum ...

EDIT: FYI ladies (and to a lesser degree gentlemen) cranberry juice is a wonderful natural defense against UTI.

  13. Queen size beds. which brings me to things that are not awesome: twin beds.

girlfriend has a twin size bed in her room where she is staying at the hospital where she is shadowing...makes sleeping there tricky. I'm 6'4", roughly 250 LBS...good thing she's pretty small in comparison lol.

Other awesome things: like Ink said: tax returns. Also: Profit sharing checks (I get one here soon!). lastly: snow...I've been on my skiis once so far this year...they are yearning to get back on the slopes.

    Excuse me!

    No lamb for you!

  14. made the girlfriend some fettucini and chicken alfredo with broccoli and biscuits (the red lobster recipe...yumm) last night for dinner. There were some leftovers...guess who didn't get them...yeah, this guy :(

Today's lunch is just left over homemade country vegetable soup instead. Dinner is going to be homemade chicken fajitas I think.

and Nova Scotia, the lamb dish that you mentioned last week (I've been away for a week) sounded amazing.

    Welcome back ...

It was amazing, but in the end we decided to go with a smaller goat roast. Same recipe, but it took less time to cook, as it was a smaller roast. We both got tied up in all our duties that day.

We are planning on the lamb stew this evening. Yum yum!

  15. I am eighteen years old and I live in WNY, so I don't really drink. I've occasionally tried to enjoy different kinds of beers and liquors, but never with success. Next year, I'm going to be a college freshman and it looks like I'm going to McGill University (hopefully). The drinking age in Montreal is 18, so I want to start learning to enjoy alcohol the right way. I humbly ask advice on how to start drinking alcohol and enjoying it.

Excellent school and Montreal is a great city ... my wife is from there and we both enjoy Montreal very much, regrettably we haven't been there for a while. Good luck.

I agree with weave's advise ... everything in moderation. Also, please do not do anything that would put you in a compromising situation. While, I don't drink alcohol anymore, for a number of reasons, I do appreciate the pleasure in enjoying a good whisky (was a Scotch lover in my previous life), beer or wine.

  16. DriveImage XML.

It's a great way to backup everything on your computers ... not just data, but it makes a mirror image of everything, including software and e-mail. Makes a recovery point without the hastle when using Windows recovery. I appreciate that there are many Apple users on board and I would think this software would be just as useful in an Apple environment, but I'm not sure. The price is right ... free from downloads.com.

I use XML as outlined primarily for business purposed and create the image files on a portable hard drive (also awesome) and store them off site in a safe place. Rotate the hard disks (2) weekly to ensure a regular backup of everything. Do this every Saturday morning.

I used to use Norton Ghost, but was frustrated with the fact that it, like all Norton products, really bogged the system down by always running in the background. XML does not do that. Am using it as we speak.

    Awesome!

  17. Last night for dinner ...

Fettuccini with homemade roasted red pepper marinara. Sun dried tomato and garlic bread. With Bosnian spring water to drink. Followed by Bosnian herbal tea.

    For breakfast this morning ...

Started with Bosnian coffee and Camels ... breakfast of champions.

Then ... homemade multi grain bread with peanut butter ("just peanuts" peanut butter ... with none of the garbage added ... President Carter would be pleased) with peach & passion fruit jam. A clementine and banana. With blueberry juice and chocolate Almond Breeze to drink.

My usual and nice way to start the day.
