  1. A friend gave a me broken Kenmore canister vacuum when we were moving because he said it didn't work anymore. Took it apart today, cleaned out all sorts of hair, dental floss and twine, hit the roller with a little WD-40 and boom: working vacuum cleaner.

    Just saved myself $180.

    Bully for you.

Except the part about dealing with someone else's filth ...

  2. Iraq was down 2-0 with ~20 mins to go against England. They scored one to make it close, then another during the 94th minute to tie it up. A lot of fight in the Iraq squad, that's for sure.

Was this a *friendly*, or what?

    Can't find it anywhere.

    Just found it my friend.

The FIFA U20 World Cup being played now in Turkey.

Man, this FIFA has countless tournaments being played at any one time.

  3. no? the 2013 one was started on June 25 2012, so June 24 2013 we should start the new one as it pertains to the 2014 season

OK, but the original thread for last season (2012-13) was started in June as ... 2012 - 2013. Chz edited the thread tilte to just ... 2013 after the 2012 part of the season was lost to the lockout.

A lockout seems unlikely this season, so I still say that the thread should be ... 2013 - 14 ..........

    :P

Just yanking your chain a bit. This offseason is dragging.

  4. Tried Turkish Delight for the first time today (got a box as part of a Middle Eastern food gift set), and I'm not a fan. Maybe another flavor would've been okay, but it was rose flavor so it felt like I was eating gelatinized perfume. Blech.

    That sounds absolutely terrible.

This is the only way to have lokum. Preferably at a small cafe in Sarajevo's old Turkish quarter.

  5. What?

No love for the Confederations Cup?

FIFA is a master of marketing. They have hyped this up as a lead up to the World Cup. One year away now.

I admit that I know nothing of the workings of this tournament.

What this tournament tells me is that Brazil is ready to play the World Cup, but the country is nowhere near ready to host. The stadiums etc. are not ready and millions of people are demonstrating about something, or other, and it's pretty ugly.

In WC 2014 qualifying news ...

The USA looks good in the final stages of group play.

  6. Just wondering if any of our Western Canadian Sabres fans were affected by the flooding. Is this a rare occurrence? I've never heard of flooding there before.

I have family (we are not very *close* ... my family of origin and I do not see eye-to-eye on most things) in one of the most devastated areas of the city, right on the Elbow River (the smaller of the two main rivers). They were evacuated and when we spoke with a cousin who lives in another area of the city that is not affected by the flooding (who we are *closer* with) said our uncle (my father's brother) who is a bit of an odd ball, but in a loveable way, is *missing* ~ maybe not *officially missing*, but not accounted for by the family.

Flooding happens quite regularly in the Spring (mountain snow / ice melt runnoff swells the rivers), but not to this degree. It has been made worse by a crazy amount of rain in a very short time. The flooding is being made worse, IMO, by all the clear cutting of wooded land to build houses and by industry. So, maybe not as natural a disaster as some others.

  7. It's too tough to catch up on the hundred other threads that surfaced during my absence!

I'm not saying you should read and comment on all those posts you missed.

I want the poop on your absence ( ;) ... not really, but ..........). I'm thinking maybe you and your bride eloped.

  8. I'd like to submit to this... court that Terry Pegula says that he talks to darcy but he did make it sound as though he was talking about player types more than actual guys. The hard work thing is something that I have heard Black, Pegula and Regier all mention. I don't think Terry is making decisions and that he is instead pushing for a direction, he is plotting a course but Regier is the captain. They have had multiple conversations it would seem about hard work. They even said that Myers needs to work harder (which of course he does) but the fact they are saying these things is a good sign. Bottom Line: Pegula is not saying "Darcy I want player X, go." It appears as if he is saying "we need talented hard workers, go" which is completely different.

I agree that Pegula is in the room and has a core set of "standards" shall we say that he wants players held accountable for. He does however seem to allow Darcy the final decision. I'd like to argue we do not know if Pegula can or does force Darcy to make hockey decisions. It sounds as though Darcy has the right to and does say things like "player X is nice but he doesn't fit our team" OR "Player X is going to cost us this and as GM I think that is to much to pay (in terms of prospects, picks, or players"

    Your honour.

If it pleases the court I would like to address the proceedings.

While I am not a member of the prosecution *dream team* I am a forensic accountant.

If I may, I would like to present two exhibits for your honour's consideration:

    Exibit A: Regehr, Robyn.

    Exibit B: Ehrhoff, Christian.
