  1. My excitement for the return of NHL hockey and listening to Mike Emrick has seriously been diluted by hearing Milbury and Pierre McGuire.
  2. Oy vey....wow. Honestly, I don't give a flying ###### about how often they have to play. Yeah, it may dilute the product on the ice, but these guys have been jerking us around since September. Get your ass out there and work for your salary like the fans do.
  3. I'm with those who want hockey. I've been able to fill the void with college hockey, but that only happens for me on the weekends. 'twould be nice to see hockey instead of the 3rd run of Rudolph's Shiny New Year (why are they showing that when it's still three weeks from Christmas??).
  4. I think they're making progress....I mean, who would want to spend more than 2 consecutive days with Bettman & Fehr?
  5. There's little incentive for the players to negotiate because they can go elsewhere to play...unlike the NFL or MLB. This is all Bettman & Fehr....the only director of the players union to lose a baseball season and likely a hockey season and the only commissioner to oversee two lockouts - one that killed a whole season.
  6. I know there are more pressing things in the world to be irked at, but my golfing "buddies" are not fun to play with anymore. I went to play a practice round yesterday for a big 3-day tournament this coming weekend and two of the guys (one of which will be my partner this weekend) argued incessantly about their individual match and how much money was at stake. Literally, one guy kept changing the amounts because he was losing - he's also the type to critique your game after every shot you hit, so he won't shut the F up. This has gone on so long with these characters that I've done everything possible to avoid playing with either of them and I still can't get away from it.This took its toll so much on me and the 4th guy that we were speechless by the end of the round. Golf is supposed to be my sanctuary where I can relax, enjoy the company, play well, have a beer or two on the course, and forget about everything else going on. I love the game and won't yet say that I'll stop playing it, but it's not fun when the knuckleheads I play with constantly whine at each other for the entire round.
  7. Tough news today...the significant other of one of my wife's co-workers died suddenly. We don't know what happened, but it's still pretty stunning. I met the guy a couple of times and he seemed like a really good guy. They weren't married, but had lived together for several years. They also have a teenage son. The hard part on my wife is that she hasn't heard from her co-worker (who's also a friend) and still doesn't know how he died. Tough not knowing how she's doing, either.
  8. To an extent, I agree...but only because people are becoming less enchanted with our government and country and corrupt politicians that they don't want to celebrate our country. Yet, that's not what July 4th is all about and I think people are more & more forgetting what it really is about. Personally, I love going to see fireworks. I always did it as a kid and I still enjoy it. I'm going to try and convince the wife to do it, but she's not thrilled about going - mostly because it takes an hour for us to drive the entire mile home.
  9. Bio, my thoughts and prayers also go out to you. It's something I don't wish on anyone. On less important matters... The silly check engine light came on, then went off, then came on again - all this week. The idiots in my golf league keep changing the rules and participants for our outing, so much so that one of the guys completely quit....though I can't say I'm far behind. I like my job, but the office is open enough and my co-workers are loud enough that it was impossible to get any work done today. Mitt Romney.
  10. I've missed Complaint Thursdays. Since I've been at my new job for the past 6 months, I don't have much to complain about...until now. We hired a new guy in January. Yes, I'm still a newbie here, too, but I have 15+ years experience in my field and he's on his 5th month now...plus he's about 10 years younger than me. His personality isn't exactly something to be desired - loud talker, says whatever is on his mind at whatever time, fails at trying to be cool, jokes around with everyone (instead of trying to learn) and just recently has started using a nickname for me that I don't particularly care for (side note: my boss uses that nickname for me, but he's known me for over 10 years, so I let it slide with him...plus he's the boss). It's not a vulgar name or anything, just an abbreviation of my first name ("And" instead of "Andy", for example). On top of this, he comes off with an arrogant attitude about some decisions I'm making at work - mostly it's sarcastic, but he keeps doing it. I'm helping to teach him some of the basics of data comm, but he's irritating the H out of me when he turns around and gives me these little shots just to pick on me. Now, I'm all for having fun at work when it's warranted (I try not to be a complete stiff) and I've been pretty sarcastic at times, also (usually to other co-workers who I can have fun with and who know what they're doing when it comes to work). But when this guy keeps on going, it starts to get under my skin. I better calm myself a bit so I don't say something I regret.
  11. Just when I get my neck & upper back calmed down, I do something to pull a muscle in my mid-back. I see a sports chiropractor who uses kiniseo tape and now my back is taped from just below my neck to my lower back. I'm fine moving & walking around, but it gets uncomfortable if I sit or lay down for a while. And...it's not (quite) Friday yet.
  12. Don't forget how TWC is the ONLY major cable company to not carry NFLN on its standard package. TWC sucks.
  13. The new job doesn't allow me to get to this site during the day, so I haven't seen this thread in a month.
  14. :worthy: I got nothin' this week. Yeah, I know...the planets have apparently aligned.
  15. It's because of things like this that you need to watch your privacy settings on a weekly basis. Only my "friends" can see anything in my profile and I don't accept friends unless I've actually met or worked with or hung out with that person at least once.
  16. Well-played. I got screwed by an IT contracting company once - they told me I had the job, I accepted, then gave my 2+ weeks' notice to my boss. A day (ONE SINGLE DAY) before my last day with the old company, the contractor called me to tell me I couldn't start the following Monday...because it hadn't even been f**kin' approved by the new place. I was out of work for over a month until they finally came through. Lucky for them, two other places were about to offer me a job, but didn't come through in time.
  17. Absolutely...wouldn't do it any other way. I start the new job a week from Monday. Right now, I'm using up time off that I won't get paid for, so it's a good week to get stuff done. Wish the weather would cooperate so I could maybe play 18 or clean up the yard. There...that's my complaint.
