Other than Peterka, the Sabres sent guys with bad xgf% out. They brought in almost exclusively guys with good xgf%. Will it work? Idk, probably not because gt and coaching are trash. To the bolded, what's even the point of this nonsense? We all know Adams is incompetent.

This is obnoxious. And this is flat out bull hockey. I've mentioned jjp and his 2nd assists multiple times. You have no counter argument other than points. It's surface level. You've really gone downhill as a poster the last couple years. Just always with this tone. It is contextualizing how much offensive production this roster lost overall compared to what he currently has. You don't need to get flippant about it because you think JJPs 41 assists are being ignored. What about Cozens atrocious defense? What about Clifton being off the roster and so far fewer giveaways? What about Doan being able to force Greenway down a line? What about Quinn being healthy? What about Norris being healthy or not? What about JJPs role in Buffalo playing with Tage Thompson versus his role in Utah? What about the goalies Buffalo faced and system they play. We know it is more complicated, but we started with goals and can move on to other things. @Thornydisagree with this all you want but 23 of his 41 assists are 2nd assists. His primary assist rate is the same as Zach Benson's. I think Peterka will get 25+ goals in Utah but I don't think he gets 41assists.

It isn't more objective. You then start to ignore roles, toi, team structure. None of this is more objective. Also, I went into JJP assists. If you think Peterka is going to run at 1 secondary assist per 60mins again this year, fine but I will bet on that dropping without Tage or Tuch being on his line. Over half his assists are 2nd assists and those fluctuate. 41 assists! LOOK! yea but 23 of those were 2nd assists.

Id have more hope. In particular I think Wilford being allowed to continue on is shocking neglect. He's managed 1 good defensive year in the last 4 but other than that has been terrible and I think he contributes to both the defense and the forwards supporting them being bad. Sabres have been in the bottom 3rd of the league in goals against in 3 of his 4 years and yet here we go, year 5.

They'll still be able to generate offense off the rush because they have such dynamic defenders. Buffalo has 4 of the top 31 5v5 assist creating defenders in the NHL now: Dahlin, Kesselring, Byram, Power. I think losing Peterka will hurt rush creation but adding Doan probably helps cycle creation. Hard to say what their scoring will do overall as Quinn and Benson are wildcards and I don't expect Norris to shoot at 8% like Cozens. Still, Buffalo probably scores a few less than last year, if that comes with a drastic reduction is goals against, than cool. They can, but "hope is a ***** strategy"

Dust has settled and it appears the goalie carousel has stopped. I like Lyons and think Buffalo did a good job bringing him in, but did they actually improve the goaltending? Do we have the worst goaltending in the East? If not, who would you rank below us? How would you rank all 16 Eastern teams? To help this along... I limited to 5v5mins and 1000 minutes or more of TOI. That's roughly around 17 games played which helps eliminate some of the other fringe goalies. UPL ranks 53rd with -12.6gsaa (goals saved above average). Alex Lyon is at 42 with a -4.77gsaa. This is out of 58 qualifying goalies. Now we should note that I am not looing at GSAA based on TOI so Lyons has less but he also has half the toi.

Out from Buffalo: Cozens, Peterka, Clifton, Lafferty, JBD, Reimer In for Buffalo: Norris, Kesselring, Doan, Timmins, Danforth, Lyon It is roughly around 50goals out and 40goals in.
