  1. We have no idea home many homers a clean Bonds could have hit... :)
  2. The Emotion Homestead this morning. Happy Independence Day!
  3. I'm in. If Matt Moulson scores 15 goals or 35 pts between opening day and the final regular season game, I select your avatar for the duration of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If he fails to achieve either 15 goals or 35 points, you select my avatar for the duration of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. If he scores 15 goals early in the season, and then gets suspended for the rest of the season for taking Lance Armstrong level hgh and steroids, I still win.
  4. I think APHC paved the way for a lot of what the podcast industry is today. if we find another like him, it will be in that arena.
  5. That's a guaranteed money comparison. NFL has worked hard to reduce guaranteed money. You could make a similar comparison with the top 6-7 NHL contracts.
  6. I see two differences: (1) KO's contract is widely viewed as at or below fair value. He probably could have got more. CE got a huge payday, there wasn't more money elsewhere. (2) I heard all his comments after "Especially Jack" as filler to avoid saying just "I'm gonna get to play with a great center, on either top line, that matters to me." If this is different, it probably has nothing to do with the actual city, region, organization, but everything to do with the fact that we have players that good players want to play with. Similar to Hossa in CHI.
  7. My brain initially read the B as a Q and took a second to recognize that it wasn't reading the word squarespace.
  8. There's a bit of a chicken and egg thing with Moulson last season. He had 11 pts in 24 games through November, still his worst season, but very near 40pt pace. Then he got demoted to 4th line minutes and only scored 10 points over his last 57 games while being a healthy scratch once. Playing better minutes in April, he had 3 pts in 4 games to finish the season. I don't know that a bounce back is ensured, but I'd say it's very possibly he will get 40 pts this year.
  9. I'm comforatable with hoss's rankings, and I think Montreal may even be better than 5th. But of those top 9, at least two will be derailed by injury. If it's not us, we're in.
  10. I'm more thinking that he was aware of it. His contract indeed has the potential to be horrendous. It's also plausible that he bounces back to 20-20-40 next season. He's only 32, and now he has the extra motivation of having his best friend on the team.
  11. I don't think Ennis is gone until next summer, If he moves. This summer would be a low point in his value, having played so little last year. His potential upside in value (to hold or deal) will be too intreguing for GMTM to move. If he does move this summer, I would expect its for an established defenseman who can play top line minutes for the next 3 years at least. I just don't think that trade will be available until next summer, after Tyler puts up another 25-30-55 season. I think a good indicator of this theory will be if Ennis is getting top 6 minutes he doesn't deserve. That would most likely result in a conversation between Murray and Bylsma about turning Ennis in for the defenseman Dan needs/wants.
  12. Drug-free-"ish" bicycle racing is every bit as entertaining, and maybe more so, than its heavily chemically enhanced counterpart.
  13. What if KO was always the target when GMTM re-signed Moulson? He's just the kind of stone cold, calculating mastermind to do something like that.
  14. If this roster is healthy in April, they might even win a series.
  15. Cool signing. It actually looks like Samson might be our second longest serving top six forward next year. We've gone from nothing to something very good in 18 months. Well done GMTM.
  16. Toronto is actually lower, and Buffalo is only $2.5M advantage over Tampa. http://www.tsn.ca/polopoly_fs/1.517591!/httpFile/ss-calc.html
  17. Should have read: Even with the nothing they put around him, he makes the playoffs if he...
  18. I think athletes pay taxes where they earn the money, so if they are paid for games, they pay taxes where the game was played. 90% of the contract being a bonus that will be paid in Florida means low income taxes on all that income. Can any accountants confirm this?
  19. Even if the cap is up to $120M in 10 years (5% annual growth rate), that recapture penalty would destroy the Preds for years, there is a 0 percent chance that the league allows it to happen.
  20. "I'm sorry sir, there is just no way, medically, that Shea can continue to play hockey. That hang nail is just to deep for a 40 year old to recover from, we'll have to put him on LTIR."
  21. I'd be thrilled if we were neither this time.
  22. Worked out really well for us the last time we failed to sign the top UFA, former lightning star center and settled for a long term deal with the next best forward in Free Agency.
  23. Even with the nothi. They put around him, he makes the playoffs if he stays healthy. Worth every penny, independent of their other issues. Quarterback is everything.
