Tonight, my politics mostly involve finding Englishman... And lighting their cars on fire.

Now that I'm home from work and have a few of Dublin's Finest in me, I'm a lot less annoyed by all of you. I want to wish you all a happy St. Patrick's Day. Sláinte!

Charlotte in the Atlantic and I think it's perfect.

I'm not sure, he was born in scotland, and kidnapped to ireland at age 16. He probably spoke the local languages, as Latin never really took hold in Isles.
-
I read somewhere, recently, that American English is actually closer to 17th Century British English than current British English is.

You can call him whatever you want, but if you call him "Patty" you should expect most good Irishmen to give you a page and a half of internet .
-
because the English ruin everything.

Specifically, the rules against athletes being "paid" specifically outlaw the athlete from receiving complimentary drinks at a bar. (Other than at ND and BYU, I'm pretty sure they're allowed to whoever they want.)
-
In that case, you would be in clear violation of the NCAA rules.
-
Right, sometimes a "trainer" who's a sophomore Physical Therapy student checks on their concussion, that has to have some monetary value, right? [i'll stop with the hyperbole now :) ]
-
Yeah, the Irish, what do they know about Irish names! :P [insert some appropriate number of smileys so you know that I'm saying this thoroughly tongue-in-cheek.]

It's damn close. Sure they get compensation, but they are required to spend nearly 100% of that compensation at the "company store".

The feast of St Patty is on 8/25. Had not seen that before. Excellent.

Don't get me wrong, I prefer my goods and services to be provided by slave labor (and at slave labor prices) as well, I'm just saying I can empathize with the other side of the argument.

The current lawsuit in front of the Fed Circuit Panel (O'Bannon vs. NCAA) is specifically regarding merchandising. It sounds, essentially, like your position is that athletes receiving payment as a result of their work as athletes is OK as long as that payment is not coming from the general fund (specifically including tax dollars). I think that is where I'm at as well. Even at public schools, if athletes were to get a cut of the gate and TV revenue, I wouldn't care. ND and UB had the same price tag for me. It wasn't a hard decision. :P

What about private schools? Should they be able to pay their athletes?v
-
Ummm... in that case, it's possible that you are not playing hockey correctly....

I was not trying to say anyone called anyone out other than in a good natured way. I was just pointing out that I didn't really show up with my dick swinging.

I don't think it was everything: He was for raising the SS cap, she was against it. He was against DOMA, she was for it. His healthcare plan had an employer mandate and penalty, her's did not. I didn't notice a measurable difference in their ME Military strategy, what did you see? I worry that Sanders and Warren will split the liberal vote and Hilary will walk away with it. To be clear, I would take Hilary over Rubio, Cruz, That Crazy Libertarian Guy, or Bush III.

All in good fun, between us, I think? Others may have missed it.

Yes on the typo. I'm open to the idea that I'm simply "Misremembering". On what issue(s) was he to her right?

I didn't really come out guns blazing.
