  1. Changing Subjects, This Ebola Outbreak in West Africa is scaring the guts out of me. 2014 is the deadliest Ebola year ever, and it's only July. The outbreak is uncontained and spreading to new countries. This stain seems to be significantly less lethal (60% vs 90% for previous outbreaks) which is actually a huge problem because carriers can travel much further spreading the disease. If this thing jumps continents, by October this could easily make Ukraine, Gaza, and Syria look like irrelevant blips on the international affairs map.
  2. Only certain civilians. There are certain types of gun crime that make the news. There is another, much more prevalent, type that gets reported in aggregated statistics.
  3. I will be grasping at straws until you guarantee me Jack Eichel with the Islands Pick.
  4. Also their blinding hatred of the British. That has to count for something.
  5. It's also a tough comparison because the English Crown was (a) literally crazy and (b) thousands of miles distant from the battle. A insurrection against foreign opressors =\= a revolt against a local government Army (see The American Civil War).
  6. We probably would have been granted huge political concessions to end the rebellion, but never complete independence. Remember, 25 years later they walked in and spanked us for misbehaving.
  7. I really think his ceiling is Datsyuk (<5% chance) I think his trajectory based on performance and skill is a 55-60 pt center who gets matched up against the other team's top line and makes them work way harder than they want to. (30-40% chance) He may fall short of that and still be a valuable 3rd line guy, about 40pts, defensively sound. (25-30%) Of course he could always wash out too. but between the skill, ethic, and physical characteristics, I think this guy is a real important part of a future cup contender.
  8. Just a few points of fact: The Continental Army's Senior Leadership was exceptionally well trained and had significant experience from the French and Indian War. In many cases, the American Armaments were better suited for the battle at hand. The rifle guerrilla vs. the Musket Line is a prime example of this. While they fought well, The Continental Army absolutely did not win the war. The French Royal Army and Navy won the war.
  9. Not on the road.
  10. So more of this and you're good: http://youtu.be/QbWmS7GEWAM
  11. Eleven has multiple felony convictions.
  12. Did any of their individual players have unsustainably high numbers to bring them to that middle of the pack? In other words, are they likely to get worse simply because of natural regression to the mean.
  13. Did you ever get a chance to look at the Isle projected Corsi for this season vs. last season?
  14. I'm sorry, My intention was to indicate that we wanted to insulate the kids from the losing. Zemgus gets to stay because he is immune to your failures.
  15. My guess is he bet on Hockey, and has a deal to seal that evidence in exchange for his testimony.
  16. Main Conclusion: The Auto Industry makes you sad.
  17. This is where I'm at. He started playing mostly center in February. I expect him to continue that progression in October. But the kid has the ability to score NHL goals. The highlight reel that was him in April gives me great hope.
  18. But what if he wins? How hilarious would this place be if it existed in an even further anarchic ecosystem? ______________________ This could be a chicken and egg scenario too, if we demilitarized the police first, there probably would be significantly more appetite for gun control, and less demand by citizens for military style munitions. I doubt disarming the citizenry would precipitate a disarming of the Security State. Power tends to have pretty significant inertia, it typically doesn't relieve itself on it's own. Of course, think we should also be re-examining the size of our Standing Army.
  19. I'd like to clarify and reinforce that I blamed both Republicans and Moderate Democrats for the creation of the Security State. Plenty of Dems supported GWB when he created this monstrosity. And the recent militarization of the police force is a federal creation directly resulting from our over-reaction to 9/11. Much of the para-military equipment is purchased via Federal DHS grants. Small Town America isn't going to buy their local sheriff a Bradley unless Washington is paying for it. My point was that this is an item where the liberal wing of the Democratic Party and the Libertarians align.
  20. Or, Pysyk will be down, along with Risto and Grigs, because they don't need to clear waivers, Zad and Samson will be back in Juniors, and we will be purposefully icing a roster designed to lose games. just a possibility.
  21. You are referring to the successful repelling of the Soviet Invasion of the United States from Red Dawn, right? In that case, absolutely. Your point stands.
  22. 18th century is very not equal to the 21st century, very not equal.
  23. Well, I think you're right. I just wanted to be a little more accommodating to our freedom-at-the-barrel-of-a-gun friends.
  24. I think liberals and libertarians are pretty much of one mind on this already. It's the conservatives and blue dog moderates that seem to let it slide. But yes, Amen. I say amen Fox News, good article.
