Who will be the Sabres 3rd center this upcoming season
LastPommerFan replied to Happy Days's topic in The Aud Club
To put Samson's potential return to Juniors in perspective: The last time the first forward selected in the draft did not play for the team the following season was Danny Heatley, who returned to the Wisconsin Badgers for his sophomore season after being selected 2nd overall by Atlantapeg in 2000. The last time a the first forward selected returned to Juniors was JP Dumont after being selected 3rd overall by Mike Milbury in 1996. The odds are HEAVILY in favor of Samson playing the entire season in Buffalo. -
It's your contest, and I have absolutely zero complaints about how you choose to run it. It's amazing that you choose to do it at all. One possible way to change it would be to have categories, Like Draft/Re-signs/UFA/trade/other since those would essentially cover specific time periods with measurable results. Also, putting a date the winner will be chosen might frame the prediction timeline. These solutions are terrible and should not be used unless YOU feel they will make the contest more fun for YOU.

I guess there's a solid caveat here. If we're sneaking into the playoffs with Risto, Pysyk, Zadarov, Reinhart, Grigorenko, Armia all in the lineup, That might mean we already have elite players. If a team with 6 rooks is finishing ahead of two of Detroit, Ottawa, Tampa, Montreal that will indicate we have found what we are looking for. If Nikita, Mikhail, Joel, Samson are not on the roster and we're battling for 4th, that indicates that the pieces that are not part of the solution just screwed us again.

Your description leaves something off. If we are fighting for the playoffs, it probably means our #1 center is gonna win the Calder. I really don't see how it could happen if our pivots are Ennis and the Class of 2012. If that is the case, i think it means the team is better than we currently believe, reducing the need for Conner McEichel (although in my heart of hearts I believe Garth Snow will somehow manage to win him for us) and short cycling the rebuild by 1-2 years. At the end of the day, what I really want as a fan is to add a top two pick to a team that played in the Atlantic Division Finals.

I'm impressed you googled it!! I have no idea what the origins are.

Google it.

The team is worth a billion in buffalo whether there is a team in buffalo or not. It's inconsequential.

Meh, I find it really hard to judge the actions of a bunch of 20-year-olds just trying to get laid. Remember, this was a time when the commercial music was all free, but before Pandora introduced us to all the stuff the labels weren't putting on the radio.

Every party soundtrack at every (middle class, primarily white) college party at that time had 3 songs: Livin' on a Prayer, Don't stop Believing, and Fight for Your Right

Ah, my title! not my name, I get it now. I'll keep it for now. I got nothing against JBJ. I went to college in the early 2000s. even if he bought the bills and moved them, on net, he would be associated with happy memories.

Anchorman.

I'm not following you. Why? My emotionless response?

If a team in buffalo is worth $1B, that same team in a huge market (Toronto, LA, Mexico City, etc.) will be worth $2B+. None of this will convince the owners to bite the PR bullet and force a move, but the owners long term financial interest is squarely in favor moving a small market team into one of the unserved large North American media markets.

They 31 other owners all get richer if the bills move.

Good Point. Quick Wikisearch reveals 20 in MLB, 6 NBA, and Johnny T. -

The odds of a country of 34M creating a great national team program while it's 500 best athletes all play hockey is pretty slim I'd imagine. Canada has a bigger (proportionally) "the best athletes play a different sport" problem than even the US. -
That Mika Noronen led '03-'04 team was special.

There is at least one NHL club that I am confident I know more than, and I don't even rise to the level of blogger!

Validation will come when EDM starts winning because of roster or line-up changes driven by fancystat analysis. Getting hired by an NHL team alone is not validation of your work (see Snow, Garth)

Absolutely, there really can't be any reason-driven fear on this, but I don't blame anyone for losing sleep after watching the Exorcist, and this is real. I understand the imagination-driven fear, the pathology of this thing is the stuff of nightmares.

It's not the likelihood, or contagiousness, or actual odds of Ebola causing the fear. It's what that disease does to the human body. And that's not hype. That is very real, you bleed to death internally, but before you die you get to watch several of your internal organs come out through what's left of your disintegrating lower digestive tract. It's not 1/100th as contagious as the flu, but it's twice as lethal and gross as hell. This virus is straight out of a B-rate monster flick.

Poor Tampa. The forgotten stepchild of the AL East.

Best I can tell, the O's are hanging in there by Showalter Magic. 2/3 of the sluggers are in the middle of huge slumps, and they still don't have a real ace. Of course, losing your all-star-gold-glove-switch-hitting catcher for the season to Tommy Johns hurts too. That said, blue jays are ######
