  1. My sentence structure on the original question was poor, but I did say "that actually won the cup"
  2. I think people need a refresher on the fact that Trent would not even be described as an "adequate" starting QB: He hasn't won a cup, so *BUZZ* you get the family feud red x ❌
  3. That makes me wonder ... has there ever been the NHL goalie equivalent of Trent Dilfer? "We just need our goalie to manage the game and not lose it for us?" that actually won the cup?
  4. Not necessarily you, but I remember LOTS of folks 'round these here parts were ready to anoint him as our next CAPTAIN, let alone just the "A" ...
  5. To the bold ... so? Would you rather have him here, floundering in a situation that is not right for him and dragging the team down, or move on and try to make the team better? Far more successful organizations that this one have moved on from far better players than Cozens when their performance was not what it needed to be. For the record, I blame the contract for part of it - putting too much pressure on himself. If I recall correctly, Ryan Miller used a sports psychologist at points in his career ... maybe Ryan could share the number? Or perhaps Rasmus could earn that "C" on his chest and tell Dylan that story about when he (Ras) realized he needed to stop playing the game for other people and just go out be the best Dahlin he could be.
  6. Hey! You can't gatekeep the gatekeeping! 🤣
  7. I will say the Crosby goal was a FAR bigger dagger to my American (but very respectful of Canadians) heart. Ryan Miller willed that team to the Gold Medal game. He was brilliant. Everyone knew the US had no business being in OT for the Gold without Miller. To see it end sorta casually with a funny shot from a weird angle was devastating. I think knowing the US blew their one chance made it worse. I feel like the US will be a factor in the medal rounds of international hockey far more frequently going forward.
  8. The bolded is the whole point. The stats for PB I listed were when he was drafted. I did miss the part where Östlund's weight had since been updated. NHL.com had PB at 6'-1" and 196 for his playing career. "Small" by this board's standards.
  9. The talk of how big some 17 or 18 yr old kid is and how that will translate to NHL success is absurd (not directed at the most esteemed LGR, as I know you have railed against that in the past). I would challenge anyone to notice the on-ice difference between 5'-11" and 174 lbs and 6'-0" 180 lbs. The two players, in order, listed above - Östlund (minus the fancy O) and one of the greatest defensive forwards to play the game, Patrice Bergeron ... So, yeah - complaining about the size of 17 yr old kids ... so smart 🙄 For an added bonus, Mike Peca was 5'-11" 183 lbs during his NHL playing career. Get right outta here that Östlund is "too small" ... no time for that!
  10. A team might win with the "sure hope they figure it out real quick" strategy (it happened like once before, so i guess it could happen again?) ... but that team would be foolish bastards to expect it.** **ESPECIALLY when the "vets" on that team are merely survivors of (or the poor souls who failed to escape from) the aforementioned system of lunacy.
  11. lol - fair. Although, I think they probably have enough players with "enough" hockey IQ, but those players tend to rely on the high end guys for cues and to be the first to react to something. I think the Sabres don't have enough high end, so the simply adequate folks get exposed more regularly.
  12. Situational awareness? It does seem like some of the Sabres' players might not have "it" in the hockey IQ department?
  13. The thing that has stuck out to me the most in the very good games of the 4 Nations tourney ... how effing good the forward groups are at playing defense. The US PK and 6v5 against Canada were freeze frame CLINICS on how to aggressively defend while maintaining positional accountability. Whether at even strength, PK, or the dreaded extra attacker, Buffalo's forwards seems to consistently chase the puck too much and pick the worst times to do it. I have a very strong suspicion that the Sabres could acquire the much desired two "shut down D" and unless our forwards learn their GD d-zone responsibilities, the overall team D would not improve that much. Teams have learned if they overload the Sabres down low, (pick a forward, they all do it) will leave the zone too early or stay too high and they will eventually find a way to force Power (or any other whipping boy) to try to cover two players at once. The biggest thing a defender had to do in front on the net is tie up the other player's stick. It is that simple. Forget all this old-school BS about clearing the front and "put him on his arse", sure those are nice - but control the stick, control the player. If a defender has to keep their eyes on TWO players on opposite sides of their body, they are at such a disadvantage in terms of how to do that. If the opposing team has three players in front of the net and the Sabres only have two either a forward has completely blown their assignment or they are "strategically" trying to cut off a pass (zone concepts and "overloading" the puck in the d-zone seem to be quite in right now). I just don't think it is fair to evaluate any of Sabres D-men completely on this team with such a poor defensive set of forwards.
  14. Connor McDavid is such a whiney little b1tch. Doesn't even acknowledge the crowd as he is named 3rd star. Show some class, you a$$hat.
  15. The only thing I ever had against Sid is that he never played for the Sabres. The guy is a beast on the puck, seems to pass THROUGH actual people, and can score a top shelf goal on a one-handed back hand flip (which unfortunately happened against Buffalo). He is the epitome of "makes others around him better". Signs team friendly deals because he wants more cups. And his edge work redefined hockey skating. Any hate against Sid is misplaced.
  16. Have you tried restarting? hahaha ... I'll see myself out 🙂
  17. And are also shut out due to not having Russia as one of the 4.
  18. What if he can't remember how to play with really good teammates? 🤣 ESPN got RIGHT to it ...
  19. Only the NFL can pull off the consolidated networks move. There are fewer games, it is that simple. Football on Sundays and Mondays (and most people are begrudgingly used to Thursday now, too). That is why the NFL can command premium dollars from the big networks. It is just so easy as a fan to figure out. MLB, NBA, NHL - too many games to get a major $$ consolidated deal. That and WAY too many bleh games (ie - Sabres) on national broadcasts. ESPN+ carrying most of the games is the closest thing to hockey broadcast heaven there is ... unless you are local, then just eff right off with that, lol. Who even knows how much money ESPN+ even pays to carry those games? The NHL should be crawling so far up Terry's arse about icing a better produce because even when they are bad, the Sabres still post solid viewership numbers. We'd have to dig up some old stone tablets from the last time they were good, but I am sure everyone in Bedrock had them on back then! I don't follow the other two (MLB and NBA), but from some very brief googling, they seem to be in the same boat. Infinite amounts of small regional broadcasts and way too many games to get mega deals to broadcast all the games. Such is life, I guess?
  20. I would bet that his salary is pretty well in line, if not low, with 1st line wingers who can put up 40-50 goals. At least he is not making EP40 money ...
  21. TF games are you watching? (assuming he is playing and not hurt) Greenway skates through people at a fairly regular pace.
  22. I don't think it is fair to assess either goalie at the NHL level until the Sabres learn how to play defense.
  23. WA(R)R - wins above relative replacement?
  24. Yeah, he already did that by selling a chunk of the Bills for nearly a billion dollars. Forbes estimates that in 2023 the Bills had a net operating income (so, after all expenses) of over $100M. The "he saves $8M in Sabres cap space to pay for the new stadium" is also kinda absurd. The numbers are off by orders of magnitude.
