This is such an uneventful July 1st. Given it's not 12 yet, but let's be honest, the Sabres aren't going to do anything huge. Not because they don't want to but because there's nothing they can do.

Right, but it's not so important that it would prevent Darcy from spending more on the offensive side of things.

How much of a priority is the defense in free agency? Hypothetically if we did not come away with any D man more skillful or proven than McNabb would that be a pressing issue? I've been thinking scoring, scoring, scoring but I've totally forgotten the back end.

There's no way we land Parise right? No cap space? No incentive? Someone talk me out of this pipe dream.

I don't think the problem would be the Sabres or Buffalo itself. I think its the cap space if anything.

New idea, George Parros. The guy is a total goon, yes. However, his signing would ensure that what happened in Boston last season won't happen again.

Thoughts on Alex Semin? (Don't know if this has been discussed much). Looks like he'll be testing the UFA waters, also know there's some character issues. However we need scoring wherever we can get it, center or winger. Especially now that we drafred Grigs, we may not be totally anti-Russian.

Where'd all the Bobby Ryan talk go? I know this is free agency frenzy not trade frenzy but still.

I'm buying into what Kevin Snow said earlier. If there's no deal(s) done by 5 o'clock it won't happen. At least not today.

Kind of strange that Philly is accepting a trade with Columbus that does not involve Nash. Whatever, maybe it'll break the ice for further trading.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie If ANA moves Ryan I suspect it would be for two or three building block pieces that would increase organizational depth but not payroll. Not worth it to be honest. Those "two or three building block pieces" would have to be McNabb, Foligno, Pysyk, or even Ennis. If they could pull it off with maybe Adam and one or two other prospects that I did not mention I'd do it, but more likely than not that won't be the case.

Just look how Foligno absolutely owns Komisarek on that play. Follows up with his trash talk by BURNING him to the puck. Can't wait to see him play next year. However my favorite moment would have to have been when Pommer stripped Ovechkin of the puck shorthanded to score on the breakaway. At that point I was convinced they were playoff bound...silly me.

It's hard to say. Defensemen are very hard to figure out. I haven't seen enough of Karlsson to definitively say I'd rather have his offensive game. I have no idea what he's like in his own zone, maybe his offensive ability overshadows his defensive game. Could be wrong, like I said I don't watch him very often. That being said, I'll take Myers. The sky is the limit for him, no pun intended. He's only going to get better.

Zach Parise at all costs next summer. Send Drew Stafford over here to NJ to convince his BFF to come play in B-LO.

Well BuffaloRising completely said no regarding Jacobs of the Bruins, but when asked if it was Pegula they said "NHL owner does not reference Terrence Pegula". So while they didn't say yes, they technically didn't say no.

Hearing these rumors about an NHL owner attending the game yesterday with the Kelly family and meeting with Roger Goodell (per BuffaloRising). Very interesting, they are not updating their story until tomorrow apparently.
