If they really want to be in this race, they need to start adding up points. Easier said then done, but there is no other option. We're too far back to lose points. -
Yeah, i'm not sure how much credit Murray should really get for signing the top free agent besides Stamkos. If he gets credit for hitting the jackpot with Okposo, does he get credit for drafting Eichel too?
-
Just curious, but what rumblings was there? Who was reporting we were looking to move him because of the Toronto incident?
-
But they may never play on the same team. I don't see how Murray can justify re-signing Kulikov? I think our best bet is get him healthy and back on the ice, and sell him at the deadline.
-
Im not on the fire-Bylsma bandwagon, but if Julien becomes available, the Sabres have got to reach out to him at the very least.
-
I actually like Byslma as coach but i became weary last year when someone on reddit in the Boston area said he was close with Eichel and Vesey and said no way Vesey would sign with the Sabres and stated it was because of Bylsma and said Eichel hated him. It was only internet chatter so i didn't think much of it, but theres been a lot of that noise this season, Paul Hamilton mentioned it on radio before and Bulldog said he heard from people he trusts, that several players didn't like him. He didnt list names or anything but each report i hear like that I think back to that kid posting on reddit and really makes me think what is going on here..

1. Appearing in the NHL atleast once is like 100%. Between 1995 and 2005, 78% of the top 10 picks appeared in minimum of 100 games. 2. The draft is considered weak. The top 2 picks, Nico and Nolan Patrick (related to former Sabre James Patrick) could be stars. Some others have risen and what not but draft drops off again around 5-6 and then takes another big drop around 12. 3. I think like 1-3 guys each year stay up. Last years draft, which was considered a good draft, had 4 players from top-10 on opening night rosters. 4. I think OHL produces the best talent. Not sure if thats statistically accurate, but in the last few years they've killed it. But they are all good in my opinion, including NCAA.

Craig Rivet is nearly as bad. I wish they would make Dan Dunleavy a host and have Biron on. Even Rivet with would Dunleavy would do, because i think sometimes Rivet drops to Peters' level.

GMTM: Problem solver or Problem creator?

I'm still a strong believer in Murray. I think it's a process and like it or not but injuries have really made this season tough for them. I was listening to NHL radio on Sirius last week and Columbus GM Jarmo Kekalainen was on and he was asked what is the secret to their success and he said its simple, health. He went on to say that this business it's tough because when it happens to you, and you say that, everyone jumps all over you, but it is the reality. Only issue i have, and i doubt it would change much, but i wish we wouldn't have AHLers still in the lineup at this point of the season. I understand early in the season, they wanted to give guys chances such as Fasching, Carrier, Bailey and Baptiste, and it wouldn't show well that they go out and get guys to fill in spots and keep these guys in the AHL, but even after Johan Larsson went down and it was obvious some of these guys are just not ready yet, i wish we couldve used some late round picks or use some mid-level prospects and get some NHL caliber 3rd or 4th liner here to help give them a spark. -
I thought Dater said he was going to LA? Is Dater the new hockey buzz?
-
Lost the lottery twice, got played by the better coach and shown the middle finger by a prospect we tried to recruit away... yeah i agree, we've been pretty unlucky.
-
I agree with you that Ducks may be a likely destination, but i think Sabres would need more then that. Montour could have a great future but i think Murray would need more of a sample size with the dmen coming back. Kane is a elite scorer. I'm a big fan of Kane the hockey player, but yeah i think we should look to trade him but only for the right deal. We need to get a dmen that is at or near the level that Risto is at.
-
Every loss seems like doomsday. Since Eichel has returned, the Sabres are the 9th best scoring team in the league. They are not that far away from putting out a good team. The defense needs much improving and that will probably be the toughest part to fix, as they'll need maybe 3 new dmen for next season if they want to turn this thing around. Also, the fourth line is filled with AHL talent. Cal O'Reilly? Nic Deslauriers? I thought the tank was over? We could really use a Torrey Mitchell or a Brian Flynn right about now..
-
I like Alzner, but i think the issue with signing guys like him is durability. Yes, right now when he plays he is a great asset, but due to his style of play, he'll become a Josh Gorges sooner then later and guys on the open market not only get overpaid but also get a lot of term.
-
wow, that was quick for that program. Good for them and Brett Murray.
-
Brian Kozial is hosting it today from the arena, not their usual studios. Thats probably why it's radio only today.
-
The year Murray took over as GM, Sabres only had one player in the entire organization with 30 or more goals - Nic Baptiste with Sudbury. This season- Pu... 27 Estephen... 22 Hagel... 18 Baptiste... 17 Bailey... 14 All of those will have a good chance get to that mark if they remain healthy and if Baptiste and Bailey remain developing in the AHL.
-
Gotcha, thanks guys. Hope Pittsburgh can win this so we can get our new coach sooner..
-
Why would he make a lateral move from a successful team to the Buffalo Bills? Is his contract up after the year?
-
Except for Kyle Okposo? Cmon..
-
Unless the Sabres pick in that top 3 or 4 picks, the player that i keep eyeing is Nic Hague. He's a big 6'6 dmen, plays in the OHL, is tough and physical in his own end but also likes to join the rush and play the PP. Scouts consider him a stay at home d-men but he is above average skater for his size and could provide more offense then your typical 6'6 dmen. Could be a Colton Parayko type at the NHL level.

This is false. He can become a free agent on June 1st if he decides to leave college because he didn't go straight to college after being drafted by the Sabres. He was drafted in summer of 2013, and then played in the USHL in 2013-14 season, before joining Notre Dame. That's why he can be a free agent, it's a loophole in the system. GMTM was on WGR last week and was asked about it, and pretty much said they have made it known to him, his family and the agent they would like to sign him at the end of his college career. I was watching one of the broadcasts and they mentioned on the broadcast that scouts see a lot of Martin Jones in his game. FWIW.

They're good but one dimensional. They lack any kind of speed. We don't have too many players who can score on the rush. And drafted who? The only d-men drafted in the first round after pick 21- Jacob Larsson, Gabriel Carlsson or Noah Juulsen. None of those three are in the NHL right now so they wouldn't have helped, and if we did draft one of those, maybe we wouldn't have drafted Brandon Guhle in the second round? Also, there was a lot of buzz of drafting goalie Ilya Samsonov going into the draft, i wonder if the Sabres had picked him if they were not able to work out a deal for a goalie?

NJ is gonna have a TON of cap space next summer.
