Bogo is many things but slow isn't one of them. Sure he can, he had a really awful year. Had a career low shots last season and his shooting percentage was very low. His offense will no doubt bounce back but i don't think his problems were all on Bylsma. In Bylsma's first season as Sabres HC, Bogo scored 7 goals (second most of his career) and 17 assists (tied for second most of his career). Absolutely but thats a tough task. Bogo is 27 and entering his 10th season in the NHL. I think we've seen a large enough sample size now of him to know what kind of player he is. Odds are good he'll be a 5-7 goal scorer next season since he'll get more shots on net and his shooting % should improve slightly, but there is still a lot of his game that needs to be polished.

Great news! I like Biron, and when he did a few games last season i thought he did a real good job at providing entertainment and analysis. I do agree, on radio he is sometimes hard to listen to because he gets off topic so much and talks for long periods of time without truly making a point. But if you listen to that show, it's pretty much nonsense all day long with Peters and Rivet anyways so Biron kind of fits what they're looking for. I wasn't a big Brad May fan on the TV though. I don't think he really brought much to the broadcast.

Are you assuming that the current management staff still goes by the old school ways of how players pick numbers? All of our draft picks beside the goalie have "legit" numbers- Mittelstadt 77 Davidsson 8 Weissbach 17 Bryson 5 Laaksonen 20 Also, few players from previous years have changed numbers - Murray (85 to 81), Hagel (36 to 27), CJ Smith (49 to 19). Few others too i think. My guess is the random selection of numbers chosen by the club until you "earn it" is gone.

Yup, new sheriff in town for sure. Not only did they cut out the game but the 3v3 tournament at the end of the camp is in the morning. In previous years the blue vs. gold game was in the evening.

Rangers on verge of naming Lindy Ruff Assistant Coach

How soon until Ruff replaces AV as the head boss? -
I have a tough time believing that Nylander will not be there for Sweden, unless by some miracle he's in the NHL by then and we all know thats not happening. He didn't get named to the summer roster but i wonder if it was because they wanted to look at other options incase Nylander is not there because Sweden's forwards look very weak right now. Since their forwards are their weak spot and Linus Weissbach has been playing well well in Sweden and for Tri-City after he came to NA, i would also be shocked if he wasn't on Sweden's roster. Assuming Weissbach go to college and turn into Justin Jokinen that is.

I'm not sure if thats truly the case. I think Botterill has made several hints of this now, and that as a organization we didn't really go out and show love to our prospects. Botterill said it with Rochester, that it helps when the team GM or HC come and sees you play from time to time. Botterill said something like between him and Rutherford, they saw like 90% of all the AHL games. Murray was in Rochester about 5 times last season. Murray was a scouting rink rat. He would prefer to go scout the CHL or some NCAA game then to go and watch ND and Petersen and check up on his development. Botterill just said it after the draft when he was asked if hes worried about drafting college players and he said no, you just need to build a relationship with them (and other prospects too), keep tabs on them, show you value them and they will treat you right.

haha I meant, if you have the right system and know how to match his weaknesses up with someone who can cover for him, it can work really well. Im assuming Housley and Botterill could figure out a way to use all of MDZ's strengths and still not get burned by his flaws. Schultz played over 20 minutes a game for the Pens.

Davidsson is primarily a wing. Thats where he played most of last season and where he will continue to play for his club and for Sweden at the WJC.
-
He's not any worse then Justin Schultz.. and hes a champion.

As many already have said in this thread, it's way too early to even guess, but that's no fun. I actually liked this draft a lot for the Sabres. Mittlesstadt and Davidsson provide high-flying offensive potential. Everybody keeps talking about picking defense for the sake of picking defense, but our left wing spot looks weak as well down the pipeline. The pick of the goaltender UKL is a fantastic one. He has put up some really impressive numbers in the youth leagues in Finland and with the youth national team. UKL may be the best goalie in this draft class. It's too early to project if he will continue to get better, but so far he's on the right path and i cant wait to see what type of player he will be after he plays the next 2 years in the top Finnish league. Laaksonen and Weissbach are very interesting picks. I don't know much about them and even reading up on them post-draft there isn't much info available, but both look like we aimed for the stars. High risk, high reward type of guys. When the odds are so much against you picking successful NHLers in rounds 3 and essp 7, i think it's wise to aim for the stars and give them all the tools they need to develop and hope everything works out. I was pleased with the draft.

Interesting. I was wondering why they took him so early because he wasn't even listed in the hockeyprospects draft black book, and they scout over 300 players.

How about we stay in Minnesota high schools? Dylan Samberg. 6'3 200 pound d-men, can skate very well, and was on the team that won the State title (sorry Casey). He has the size, skating, puck moving ability and physicality that really makes him a well rounded prospect with legit potential. He is going to Minnesota Duluth next season who have a excellent program. They say his biggest flaw is his hockey IQ. Im guessing that can be taught. Hes the highest ranked d-men available according to HockeyProspect.com people.

Expansion Draft -- Sabres moves and speculation
Two or less replied to SabresBaltimore's topic in The Aud Club
I know we're thin at goal but i am not sure why everyone is so concerned about losing Ullmark? Look at the list they have to pick from, they are likely to select 4-5 goalies and unless Ullmark is the second best one of the bunch, they will send him to the AHL, and thus needing to pass waivers where Buffalo would quickly him up. Of course, they could trade everyone of their goalies they draft besides MAF and Ullmark or another team can claim Ullmark but i'd think unlikely. I cant believe that word is censored on here wtf... lol time to go to bed. Pretty sure thats the first time one of my posts on here has been censored. Crazy, never wouldve thought it would be on a post like this.. -
Expansion Draft -- Sabres moves and speculation

He also thinks their building a mostly Russian team. lol -
It's a good development piece to give Housley to see what he can do. For now, he'd probably a back end pairing, which is why, he's better then Falk, Gorges, Fedun and allows us to keep Guhle in Rochester for more development.

Left handed. A positive +/- in all but one season (2015-16) but also was a healthy scratch in the playoffs for Habs under Julien. So, some work needs to be done but overall a decent body work. 19 minutes per game last season.

Expansion Draft -- Sabres moves and speculation

Who is Chris Nichols? I feel like all he does all day is stalk McKenzie, Dreger and Friedman and posts their comments on twitter. Pretty cool gig. -
Struggled vs. better competition, is small and i read one scout call him "chubby". Very skilled and smart player though, wouldnt be a bad 6th or 7th round pick.

While i love Pettersson, if there is any chance that either Miro or Makar are available at #8, Vancouver would need to do something like Pettersson, on top of some other things.

There's actually a player in the draft named Robin Salo, from Finland. People in Finland say he's like a Risto clone, minus his height/weight - in terms of playing style, skating and point production. Salo played in the top league in Finland, just like Risto did prior to his draft class. He's given a 2-3rd round grade.

The Sabres would be absolutely insane to offer Petersen the backup job to Lehner. He's a solid prospect and we've spend a lot of time developing him to this point but he still has a long way to go. Like most goalie prospects it will still take time. Look at how much time Dubnyk, Miller or Biron needed and all of them were much greater prospects then Petersen is. He never had a full-time goalie coach in college because ND doesn't employ one and thats one reason why the Sabres send Andrew Allen to ND so often to work with him post-practice. Petersen still needs development. If the guy wants to go straight to the NHL, then cya. Luckily for him, the only team that would probably be willing to offer him that is the team he probably wants to go most to- Chicago. Because they dominate the regular season so much and have such good depth on their team that they can risk a few starts. It's not like he'd go 0-14 anyways.
