  1. I didn't say nobody wants him, I said nobody wants to pay that ridiculously high price because the rest of the league knows he's not worth it. BFLO has never been in the running for a big name free agent, why do you think this situation is any different? I know that sucks, but reality's a bitch. If they want him so badly, why aren't they in the running? It's not that these teams CAN'T pay as much as BFLO, it's that they WON'T. They know he's not worth the money. The reason tese teams have Nash, Callahan, Hartnell, Richards....... is because those players are better. And where have the Coyotes gone? They've won TWO playoff series with him in the lineup! What have they done? Face it, Doan is the last FA left worth anything, BFLO fans are flocking all over it for the sake of signing anybody with no regards to the salary cap. Obviously you missed it, the references to the stats were used for comparison to Pominville. But since you brought it up.......... why is it all we've talked about is how badly the Sabres need scoring, but all of a sudden in this case it's not important? If it wasn't for Doan this entire forum would be up in arms if DR spent $30 million on a player who won't give us more than 25 goals this year. But now it's a different story because he's the only big name FA left and people want to sign him for the sake of signing him. You can say it's the leadership ability, but that's hyped up and you know it. He would be just another aging winger if the media didn't turn him into the NHL's cinderella story.
  2. OK, pick anybody who has a $7+ contract...... he's not comparable because he's not "elite".
  3. Why is it money is no option for a washed up winger who hasn't won a playoff series before this year.... yet every single day all we hear is people bitching about what the rest of the team gets paid? Sorry, I don't want to be cap strapped and to keep a guy who's got two playoff series win in his career.
  4. Again, I don't see where Doan is all of a sudden this highly sought after "leader" that thinks he deserves Stamkos money. He's been a mid 20's goal scorer throughout his career and a name that most people knew but nobody would put on any "elite" list. The media loves to have a Cinderella story every year in the playoffs and this past year they chose Doan and now all of a sudden he is the guy to take any team to the top? He's 35 years old and how many playoff series wins was he a part of before this year? Man, $7.5 mil/yr for an aging captain who has only broke 30 goals twice in his career with two series wins to his name. Pominville has got to be loving this! He's been a part of twice as many series wins and hit the 30 goal mark just as many times and he's 5 years younger. That should get P-Ville at least 4 yr/$38-40 mil when he turns 35. Just because somebody is available, doesn't mean you need to go after him. If he was in such high demand he would have been picked up weeks ago. There's a reason he is still available and it's not because the Coyotes future is up in the air.
  5. The Flyers will be next year if they don't make some moves to dump even more salary. Doan is not worth Stamkos money. Not now, not when he was in his prime.
  6. I hope you're right. No need to be cap strapped by paying "elite" money to an aging player who was never elite to begin with, even in his prime.
  7. HAHA!! Coalition governance...... now what fun is that?
  8. Gary Johnson or Ron Paul. The only way to rid this country of total political corruption is to elect the officials the media doesn't want you to have anything to do with. Too many people settle for the 'lesser of two evils' and that's exactly what the two parties shoot for when building a candidate.
  9. 'Badge' from the 24 Nights CD at the Royal Albert Hall is one of the best. Nothing special by Clapton, just a great song! Oops, weave's gonna be mad I didn't post this in his music thread. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xg9Qvml49Bs That is all.
  10. Right, and he only got a 1 year contract. But I agree with what you said. No high $$ long term deal, short term maybe. If he was worth $30mil/4 years, I think there would be a lot more teams in the running.
  11. $4 million tops. Especially at his age. If somebody is good with the community, he shouldn't need to command even more money on his contract (not saying he wants more $$ to be a part of the community). If community means that much, donate $1 million to charities. As a professional athlete who makes millions a year, he should feel obligated no matter what. This team needs goal scorers and a center, Doan doesn't fill either of those roles. He's not an elite player and certainly not worth an elite contract. That's just my opinion. ;) Off topic, is Bulldog getting worse or is he drunk today?
  12. I agree. Doan is not worth the $$. What exactly has he done throughout his career? Was he really anybody before the 2011 playoffs when the media wanted to make him the veteran Cinderella story they love to have every year? He's barely a 20 goal/yr scorer who happens to have a lot of games under his belt. Granted Phoenix has had marginal teams in the past, if Doan is really a leader how many series wins has he been a part of? Wayyyyyy too much money for this guy. On a side note, I don't see how anybody can make new CBA rules retroactive. There is no way any team should be punished for contracts that were already on the books. Doing something like that can destroy a team for several years.
  13. I got it. They are far more creative before they sober up. When they do sober up they can better play what they created when they were high, but most new songs after they sober up aren't quite what they used to be.
  14. Very much like the Van Morrison concert I went to in the late '98. Good point.
  15. I think Clapton got worse when he sobered up.
  16. I'll be happy if we have any points by christmas. Apples vs oranges. Not a similar comparison at all.
  17. ESPN.com had something today about the Sabres being one of the teams that could be hurting with the new potential CBA, it was one of their subscription services so I didn't get to read the article and all the details. I would assume it has something to do with front loaded contracts becuase the teaser mentioned Luongo, Kovalchuk, Myers, etc..... I can understand the NHL wanting to get away from frontloaded contracts, but I really don't see how they can enforce any new rule to contracts made before the last CBA expired...... if that is in fact the deal.
  18. Most new coaches don't start off with 16 new players. My point is, I don't know what the hell the guy needs to do to get the credit he deserves.
  19. One thing to keep in mind....... remember about this time last year and everybody was saying with the addition of Leino, Regehr and Ehrhoff how it would probably take 20-30 games for the roster to gel and the new guys to get used to the system and each other? Dineen had to go through the same thing too. Except the Panthers opening day roster had 16 different players, not 3. I don't care if they had a negative goal differential, they still took the division and made the playoffs. 16 players in their first season, DIneen deserved to be nominated for the Jack Adams. He had to deal with a lot more than Hitchcock did.
  20. Rangers? A couple of extensions today, do these teams know something we don't about the CBA? I would assume teams wouldn't want to sign extensions until they knew what was going to happen.
  21. Scott Hartnell signs a 6 yr/$28.5 mil extension. Wow, that's a deal, even if he goes back to being a mid 20 goal/yr scorer. http://sports.yahoo....11553--nhl.html
