I’m not sure how a 5’8” offensive forward is going to fill a 4th line role. It has happened. See Paul Byron but it is few and far between. Artuu has been passed by nearly every player available to be called up. He’s definitely contributing but he’s also been playing with Murray, Quinn, Peterka, Mersch, MacInnis and Jankowski. We saw him in Buffalo. A limited player who has probably reached his ceiling.

Whatever the amount, they can make it work. The NFL salary cap has been the butt of a lot of jokes this off-season. Teams keep adding and adding with no repercussions. I don’t care that he didn’t want to play on a crappy Bills team. He’s good, at least better than what they have unless they go CB in the first round.

According to capfriendly he’s making $70,000 in the AHL. I can see why he’d make the jump. He’s a nice little player but I’m not sure he was ever going to be anything more than a tweener.

They can afford it for the next 4 years. When Dahlin and Tage’s next contract are due, that’ll be when the Sabres need to make some decisions. Three seasons from now, it’ll start being a concern. VO will be in the last of his 4 year deal, so if they need to move him, this years rookies should be firmly established where if it makes sense to do so, your cupboards are already stocked with replacements.
