Game discussion thread GDT : Leafs at Sabres 3-25 7pm

At the airport. My 8 day, 8 airline, two hotel, two uber, two rental car trip is underway. I will be enjoying a fish fry with family, tonight. Tix printed. I've left my white wig, wooden teeth and musket at home. -
In defense of no particular writer, I often think the following. It must be terribly difficult to write 200 articles a year on two major league teams stuck in neutral without drilling the same wells over and over. This, in turn, can appear as narrative, repetitive, ax-grinding, agenda pushing. Imagine the situation if any one of those mentioned wrote but once a month. Insight! Clever! Thought provoking! Buffalo sports is Groundhog Day, and every news cycle has a deadline. My kid needs shoes. Column inches ... Dan's lost the room!

Your upcoming PhD will be your second. It's as if you've given me eyeglasses. Mr. Flagg achieves elusive clarity in the gauzy world of web blogs. You've ascended to the SabreSpace Pantheon. Now, tell me about Mr. Einstein, Bern, clocktowers, wristwatches and streetcars.

In for the game and pregame. Me, Legacy and my oldest daughter. I'll also have a big SUV. If anyone wants an excursion Saturday before the game, let me know. MODO, have you seen Niagara Falls? Anything touristy on your mind? Frank Lloyd Wright? Harbor Center? No agenda - just an offer. -
I only have my memory. I "saw" it on the radio. I think hockeyfights gets this one wrong. The game had two majors. Perreault and Maloney / Fleming and Magnuson. The fights took place at the same time. Maloney was interviewed years later and recalls Perreault breaking his (Maloney's) nose. Who "nose"? The late, great, Charley Barton: http://dropyourgloves.com/fights/GameEvents.aspx?Game=42070 Excerpt: However, it should be noted that Charley Barton was a writer who at the time was employed by the Buffalo Sabres. PERREAULT PROVES HE CAN HANDLE HIMSELF Rough Stuff Doesn't Bother Him by Charley Barton The law of the jungles hold no terrors for Gilbert Perreault. They've been running at him from every conceivable angle since the start of the season and it's clearly evident The Buffalo Sabre prize rookie isn't about to duck and hide Testing rookies is almost as much a part of the game as sticks and skates, and Perreault has passed every test with flying colors. Two would-be ruffians, Chicago's Dan Maloney and Detroit's Gerry Hart took runs at him recently and both wound up the worse for wear. Maloney also wound up with a king-sized imagination and that's another story. He is the young winger who charged at Skip Krake and Al Hamilton from behind. In Chicago he sneaked up on Perreault from behind and wound up with a broken nose and several head cuts for his trouble. Maloney didn't get on the ice until less than 5 minutes remained and the decision was out of reach for the Sabres. The only thing he did was run at Perreault who wheeled and dealt him a lacing. In the Hawks next game at Toronto, Maloney showed up wearing a football helmut complete with mask. He told reporters that he and Perreault had traded broken noses. Which was news to Perreault who sustained only a bruise on the forehead where Maloney had reached around with his behind-the-back punch. In Detroit, Perreault nailed Hart with several stinging blows to the head. "I only had 3 or 4 fights in all my Junior career" said Perreault. "But now if I have to fight, I fight. I don't remember Maloney ever fighting when he was in Junior at London. Maybe somebody told him to fight me." Punch Imlach, the Sabres general manager and coach hasn't any misgivings about Perreault in the rough-and-tumble league. "He can handle himself with any of them" Imlach said. "Look they always take runs at rookies and always will, particularly against a kid as talented as Perreault." "If a kid doesn't take stand and fight they'll run him right out of the league. And you can bet nobody is going to run Perreault out." Post Script: Magnusun, Maloney and Korab, all on the Chicago roster!

Flights booked ... I'll have a real "planes, trains and automobiles" day on Sunday. -
I'm signing in one last time and then I'm out. Completely out. That you'd accuse someone of this and refuse his repeated requests to present your evidence angers me and makes me sad. To return your gratuitous sentiment, I thought better of you. You're timing's wrong. You did not call me out before I edited any post. What a self congratulating pat on your own back! I edit 3/4ths of my posts, including the one you allude to in despicable terms and without evidence. I edited it long before you posted. Your post had nothing to do with my edit. "Neo did mean stuff, only I saw it, he's changed it, and i'm NOT gonna say what it was." Cowardly. By the way, it was in response to someone indicating i'd send a limo for Hitler. I guess I missed you calling that post out. Maybe that one's not so bad. I've asked you to man up and spit it out. I've acknowledged that whatever I wrote was likely edited for grammar or syntax, and not meaning. I stand by every post i've made. I suspect whatever words originally appeared captured what I meant and the editing was merely designed to improve the writing. I may have said a biting thing to the guy who suggested I'm a Hitler foot soldier. By the way, even in my edit, the words and the bite remain. What's your point? Why did I leave? It has nothing do do with Mike Pence's shoulder and everything to do with ad hominem attacks, lazy labeling of broad swaths of people, and manufactured web drama. In short, I lost interest when ideas went away.

When the good NS expresses disappointment, you go back and examine your words. I can't find any I'd retract. Any reference to limousines I made was in response to this: "Neo's comments make me think of NS's signature. He'd send a limo for Hitler anyway, out of decorum." If NS found some of my language better than some other of my language, I'm happy for him. His absolution, however, is one I don't understand and cannot feel good about. If I edited something, it was likely for reasons of clarity, grammar or syntax. In short, I meant whatever I said. With that, a fond adeiu. I hope we meet again. To the learned, to the provocative, to all participants, to the moderators, and to SDS. I'm grateful. Ah, SabreSpace!

I don't follow. What did I say and in which post?
-
My reference was to the crowd booing a family in attendance at a musical. I have similar thoughts regarding messages of distrust read aloud by the cast to attendees in front of a cheering crowd. Venue and propriety ... my only points.
-
No, no, no! You couldn't be more wrong. One, we have a right to protest. Are you denying us our First Amendment rights? What of free speech? I know free speech isn't your point, but I'm tossing that in there anyway. Besides, Pence deserves this. He represents political views I oppose, so, like, it's ok. Besides, Republicans, er, Trump, er, well, someone started it. Not Pence, but somebody I don't like. It started 18 months ago, as was pointed out. Well, maybe it started in the 90s, as was also pointed out. Anyway, someone I don't like started it, so it's still "ok" for us to do it. And, someone called Obama a Kenyan. I saw it on the web. Besides, it was all staged, too, and designed to hide the fact that .. um ... that ... nevermind. Your faux outrage has me outraged. PS ... Careful, someone may accuse you of being the kinda guy who'd send a limo for Hitler. He'd be tilting at windmills, as he's wont to do, but he just may .. very controversial of you, very, very, controversial.
-
All of my posts? Including the one you quoted? Any of my posts? I suffered through Trump's campaign just like the theater goers did. None are absolved. How is it not Aaron Rogers' fault? Not to you --- I am debating a temper tantrum and expecting good behavior of those engulfed in the fit. I am doing it on a forum that's expressed, over the past two weeks, it's distaste for posters being above the fray and taking high roads. That's unwise of me. I fail, and it's my fault, alone. Hiss away and enjoy the food fight. PS ... I own Hamilton on iTunes. MEGA Awesome.
-
Trump is no example of decorum. The change is hardly attributable to the right or left. Warning about, and then participating in, the decline is nothing for either crowd to be proud of. I have more confidence in genie stuffers than you do. It's Trump's fault? No. I'm responsible for my behavior. Just think of the Trump-like things an anti Trumper can now do and blame Trump. I'm with HER! Where's my free pass?
-
Trump won. He's our President Elect. Institutions survive the man or woman. Decorum is an institution. Did I say I was a Never Trumper? Asked sincerely. I do remember saying I was wrestling with pragmatism (Trump) vs ideology (Johnson). I confess to Never Hillary. I confess to contemplating Never Trump. Sitting silently in the public presence of someone who doesn't share my views is a jump outta your shoes two iron from sending a limo for a madman. Your suggestion about me reveals more about you, I believe. With the onset of the ad hominem and personal, I shall abandon the topic unless I'm specifically addressed and look for an Emily Post website.

You and I understand obstruction and its role as differently as two human beings could. Hell, let's SCRAP the Senate and House. We'll have no obstruction whatsoever. King making well beyond my call for decorum, I'd say! At last, I'm out of the crosshairs. My advice to the Senate Majority leader would be "do not use the nuclear option, even if Harry Reid did."
-
I look forward to, I hope for, I will cheer ... the Democrat and democratically elected members of Congress representing the view of their constituencies. When they obstruct, good for them. As they should! Interesting coming attraction ... Harry Reid's nuclear option and his dangerous tinkering with a process that's served the country for hundreds of years. THAT was a triumph of convenience and agenda at the expense of separation of power.
-
Um, yes. Have I ever posted anything about the role of the house that would make you believe the contrary? My view of the separation of powers is not one subject to convenience or agenda.
-
Our President Elect ... I will consider the distinction between booed and heckled and see if it changes my opinion. I did this, once, with the nouns hot dog and frankfurter. I determined they were essentially the same thing. I'm afraid I'm hopeless.
-
Just call me old school and smile wryly. You can consider me quaint, but I won't scream "you're ugly" at your daughter in the middle of her wedding ceremony. Even if I think she is ... Is it the concept of respect that you all object to, or the concept that it applies to both those who do and do not hold your views? It must be one or the other. My poor kids ... the burden of behavior!
-
No, grunting Neanderthals started it. It remains. The evolutionary path hasn't removed the instinct to grunt. I can see, though, that it's removing the instinct to be embarrassed by the grunting.
-
Good heavens ... don't heckle at a theater is not referencing a kingship. We have the right to be as crude as we like. Had I implied kingship, I'd be calling for arrest. But then again, I didn't and I'm not. My kids have a right to call neighbors fat at church. I'm embarrassed for them when they do. Which, of course, is all I wrote here. Really, you got to me elevating Pence to King? Unexpected results - Me viewing the heckling of our Vice President, while at the theater with his family, embarrassing for those involved. Me subsequently learning it's ok if he doesn't share my views, and/or his views strip him of courtesy, and/or I'm disengenuous, and/or I've elevated the position to Kingship. Wait until I'm really provocative. In another industry, this would be called a slow news day. PS ... to change the trajectory while maintaining the mood, I'm embarrassed when people start food fights at restaurants, their right to do so and the waiter's lack of royal blood notwithstanding. PSS ... I will apologize in advance for being embarrassed for Representive Joe Wilson several years ago. . I'll not invite you to any of my social events. I can't be sure who's earned our respect and who hasn't. Maybe the problem is that I don't have a list of human beings I can justify being boorish around. Of course, if we didn't all have the exact same list, me having my own wouldn't solve the problem.
-
Number three in face off percentage, too.
-
My contention is that the man and the office be treated respectfully at theaters. My astonishment is that this is controversial.

I got creamed .. and I whispered "you bastard" when I read your pick. I KNEW it. @120.
