This last third of the season there have been games where we would not have won if he weren't in the lineup; tonight is an example. Coming from someone who wanted him traded halfway through the season I now think Mitts has made himself nearly essential. The guy is out there exerting his will on the game and making good things happen. Have recent fancy stats been posted in this thread? Anyone who has watched the behind-the-scenes content should clearly discern he has that older brother thing going on with the younger players. If you pay attention to the interviews with the players now they all have a very similar positive, team-is-family, work hard mentality - you might find a player with slightly better stats than Mitts to play regularly in the middle six but you're likely not going to find one who so fluidly allows the nurturing of that mindset while being a good model for the younger players.

They're going to be tired and the Flyers are going to be angry. That's a recipe for the kind of period that bites the Sabres in the butt. They need to play smart.

This is the right observation but the incorrect solution. What the Flyers are doing and the antidote to it is mostly a matter of the coaching staff figuring out how to adjust and - coach - our guys toward success.

The KO goal was critical. Especially with a minute left. I expect to see a different Sabres team in the second than we saw in the first.

If the team is flat for THIS game they deserve to miss the playoffs.

Not a fan of the Miller comparisons. Levi is a totally different personality - at least right now. I seem to recall Miller from the get-go was moody and weird. Levi seems to be neither.

Skinner was enraged - he was hitting people and out for vengeance. I wish the rest of the team would hit people in our zone like Skinner was hitting in the third.

Happy for the win. Didn't like the lower gear in the second or third although I recognize the Rangers played a role in that. Levi was fun to watch - makes our other goalies look like 🐌 (that's a snail). He strikes me as diminutive in net although he's 6 foot. Doesn't matter when he's like the Flash. This is going to be an interesting home stretch!

For several days I thought this thread was about a guy who has been in the AHL for 18 years. What a surprise!

Mitts has come onto his own. He was an essential component in these last two games.

Of course we needed to see this version of the Sabres show up two weeks ago, still, it's good that in late March we have meaningful hockey.

Too much time left for that kind of thinking.
