Sorry Rayzor and all the other ball washing talking heads lauding the Sabres for their “effort” in a “great bounce back game”, but effort is the bare minimum requirement. This idea of confusing effort with results is bullcrap and I don’t buy it for a second. The only outcome that would have made this a great bounce back game was a win. Losers in six of their last seven and sinking like a stone. Effort my ass.

Gotta be both. Citing poor team defense doesn’t absolve the crap goaltenders of anything. Good goalies make saves when everything else goes to schit. Our goalies have done that at times but have failed to rise to the occasion far too often.

Unfortunately, waiving Comrie or any other goalie isn’t gonna stop the ridiculously high number of high danger shots we allow our goalies to face as compared to the rest of the league. If you haven’t seen it in the UPL thread, somebody posted the list of goalies facing the highest percentage of those shots and all three of our goalies are in the top 10, with two in the top three.

Every time? Are you sure about that? Because I can think of them not rebounding twice just in the last six games alone. They followed up the Columbus debacle with an even worse debacle against Boston and then the big loss to the Islanders with their worst performance of the year Thursday night against the Stars. Not only did we not rebound, we did the exact opposite. That said, I’ll be rooting as always that they follow your prediction and win today. Gotta stop the bleeding.

I’ll just leave it at this, in order to do good radio play by play and be of service to your listening audience, you have to be trained as a radio play by play guy and gain experience as a radio play by play guy by being a radio play by play guy. Especially in hockey, given the fast pace of the action. Dunleavy has the same issues as anyone else in today’s TV sportscaster generation. He and his counterparts never came from the required radio background to do justice in that medium. And nobody will ever convince me otherwise.

While not mathematically eliminated, they certainly appear to be emotionally eliminated at this point. I’ve always said the true test for a team is how they respond after a big loss. Can they get off the mat and get after it the next game or will they throw in the towel. Last night provided all the answers I need on that score. Just another weak, fragile team like the ones we’ve seen since the tank.

Was mentioned up thread that this team deserves the fans’ support. Why? They’ve done everything at home this year to drive fans away with their uninspired play. Especially in big, must win games. I know, maybe Dahlin can write us another letter.

If we might be worried about next season, then we should be just as optimistic as well.

Rick was part of a dying, if not already dead, breed. He made his bones as a radio play by play guy which is an entirely different discipline. TV only guys, which is all we have in today’s land of simulcasts, don’t possess the skills required to paint the picture for the radio listener. It requires much more focus and stamina than simply having the audience rely on the TV images for the story of the game.

Also speaks to the sheer dominance of his entire team as well.

I sure hope VO has a reduced role… … with another team.
