Marty definitely has the chops for color commentary, but play by play is an entirely different animal; more of an art form really, one that requires intense concentration, articulation, and stamina that allows a listener to close his eyes and follow the play sheerly from the description. The Sabres currently don’t employ anyone who is even close to being able to do it right.

That just isn’t sustainable.

I agree 1000%, but I doubt Jesus would resort to citing meaningless stats and urge the scribes to look them up in a pathetic attempt to make his coaching job look better. It reeks of desperation and insecurity and I have to believe that filters down to the losers in the locker room who also like to confuse effort with results on a regular basis.

I’ve had it with Granato, who I once had the highest respect for coming off the Krueger debacle. But he’s a loser, plain and simple. When you resort to trotting out stats to justify your job and urge reporters to “look them up” it’s beyond pathetic. Did you know that the Sabres are one of, if not THE best team, when leading after two periods the last two seasons and that shows how “mature” this group is? Hey Meatballs, how about leading after two periods more often so that stat can actually mean something?

Given that UPL has been providing good goaltending for a couple months now and if he stays on that trajectory, is it reasonable to assume that we already have good goaltending heading into next season? Or is the acquisition of a more capable backup than Comrie an essential part of the goaltending equation and you can’t have good goaltending if your starter is the only good goalie on the roster? Personally, I think it’s the latter as the the top rated goalies in the league are backed up by goalies with solid stats as well, which stands to reason given that those teams are all rather sound defensively. It’s imperative that KA find a backup capable of providing solid net minding stats for 25-30 games before I can say we have “good” goaltending.” As good as Oopie may be, he’s only part of the goaltending equation.

So Moosejaw goes on a 12 goal tear last night and I was expecting to see Our Boy Savoie with another fat stat line, but he had just the one goal and was +3 for the night. He must have had a great game though as he was named first star.

Screw Hershey. They feasted on a steady diet of home cooking all night. Levi was all that and more tonight in spite of it though.
