  1. I think this is where I’m at.
  2. I googled Pegula balked at paying TM and got two hits. Doesnt mean it’s true which is why I stated “hearing whispers” and used TP “supposedly balked”. carry on
  3. I’m sure it’s out there. TP supposedly balked at paying a guy $5M when Edmonton was only paying him $3M and then fired him.
  4. Is there a point here?
  5. The successful teams are surrounding themselves with smart people. It’s my biggest concern with JBOT and wonder what the commitment he’s getting from the Pegula’s. Brandon Beane has built an all star support system and finds places for smart people. JBOT has Greeley and Sexton. Then you hear whispers that TP vetoed the $5 million offer for Edmonton’s ex coach(I’m drawing a complete blank) and at least I wonder.
  6. So Shane Doan is joining Canada’s staff as consultant to JBOT days after singing Tippet’s praises. Coincidence?
  7. I don’t know, they have one of the best defense corps in league and Aho and a few other emerging stars upfront. History is full of one year wonders. It’s far too early to label him a great coach. Besides, it’s Rod “freakin” Brind A’mour. He could win ten Cups and I couldn’t call him great.
  8. I don’t want to derail the thread but how do we know they have a great coach?
  9. I have no idea about what you guys are arguing about but “five tool” was around long before Mike Trout. Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Bobby Bonds and Dave Parker were all considered five tool guys. I’m sure there were a lot more. I would prefer the “bad court thingy.”
  10. I personally don’t think hiring a coach is any different then hiring any executive and I have no problem with ownership being involved. I think they knocked it out of the park with the Beane hire and don’t think there is any great mystery that they wouldn’t be privy to and this make counter productive for them to be involved.
  11. You are talking a $3-$5 million hire. I’d bet there isn’t an owner or managing partner out there that is not involved in the hire. These aren’t family hobbies anymore. They are billion dollar businesses.
  12. I’m interested in the Keefe speculation and defer to those that know him more. However, I don’t know if from a “business” point of view and “doing what’s generally considered right” that you can hire another organization’s AHL coach without your AHL coach leaving. I’m just not sure of the optics. As for Martin and Boughner, it would make my decision to cancel my tickets much easier.
  13. Actually played three times. Twice against Detroit sndnonce against St. Louis. I believe 1974, 1975 and 1994.
  14. For what it’s worth, I overheard a conversation that seemed to indicate that a Sandelin was at least approached. To be honest, at the time I didn’t even know who he was.
  15. No way it’s Martin.
  16. Someone just mentioned Mike Sullivan. Thoughts?
  17. Why would he leave his current position to be anything less then a head coach?
  18. Thanks for doing the work. I’ve been singing this song for awhile. I love coming to this board for insight and info but somewhere along the way there seems to be a disconnect when it comes to drafting and prospects and what it means to the rebuild.
  19. I admit I had to google him, but yes.
  20. If Dallas Eakins doesn’t go to Anaheim, I think he gets consideration.
  21. Question isn’t how they turn out but what situation was at time. Moulson had two other comparable offers, Okposo was one of top free agents of his class, Pilut just won best defenseman in his league. There is no doubt first two ended up terrible contracts, Pilut’d was exact same contract he would have gotten anywhere.
  22. My thoughts exactly.
  23. Marty Biron said AV only coach he hates. Everyone else has said he is more of a Marv Levy type delegator who leans on his veterans. Nail in coffin would seem to be questions about his communication abilities since that seems to be a big thing with JBOT.
  24. Neither Molson nor Okposo were offered more then market rate. Pilut was high end pick up. Other two weren’t.
