The first line is playing a lot of neutralizing hockey against other teams top lines right now and I think that's lowering a player like Sam's offensive contributions a bit. He's a responsible player and I think he's carrying a lot of the water for that line in that role.
It looks like they might think Jokiharju is more defensively gifted than we think he is. His possession metrics are pretty good with a more defense first tilt, so maybe they think he and Dahlin can pair up to cause some problems.
I'm trying to figure out where Montour fits on this roster.
Dahlin-Miller seems to work really well.
McCabe-Risto are eating the heavy defensive minutes
Scandella-Joker are doing a completely reasonable job as the 3rd D pair.
I think what ultimately happens is Miller shifts to McCabe's spot and Dahlin and Montour become our offensive D line. Risto is the odd-man out unless they really like his play with McCabe.
He may never really be that good at the defensive side of defending. Erik Karlsson is his closest comparable and sometimes I think he's the worst defender I've ever seen despite his undeniable offensive abilities.
