  1. If we're so low as a franchise that we're doing some basic experiment to see if Granato could be the guy to lift us out of the abyss, then I think the experiment should be constant. Keep all three coaching variables from the spring and see what happens in the fall.
  2. I was thinking about the Aud. It's apt how the word "connection" keeps popping up in Sabres lore. For good reason. The youngens might not recognize this, but: 1. The fans were connected with each other, because there was no piped-in noise or loud music to wipe out conversation, at least in the early days of the Aud (this might have changed into the 90s); you could easily talk to your neighbor, you could hear chants get started; and a horn didn't obliterate the joy of a Sabres goal; 2. Fans were connected with the players because of how close to the ice the fans were, the steepness of the sections; old-timer talk about hearing fans' comments, recognizing faces and voices; players could read the many signs; 3. The players were connected to the community; they truly were the Beatles on ice; 4. The fans were connected to Uncle Milt; you listened; you impersonated him; 5. The fans were connected to Ted and Rick; we still have Rick, God bless him; 6. The owners and GM were connected to the fans; they sat in the crowd with their wives! 7. Everyone was connected in a communal experience that, at that time, had almost nothing to do with being a captive audience, a marketers' fantasy; no Dr. Shatkin Kiss Cam, ads on the boards; when the thingamajig atop the scoreboard starting flipping and showing Marlboro ads and others I can't remember, it was a thing. In a way, it was the beginning of the end. I'd like to formally apologize to Mrs. Richards for my punctuation.
  3. Probably should have gone with "... before evaluating Granato as a coach." I went with 20 games. I need to see what others saw last season. That'll sort of be Phase 1 of the evaluation. Like, the first quiz of the semester. I wouldn't say based on those 20 games that he's a good or bad coach.
  4. How long do you predict you will wait before deciding if Granato is a good or bad coach?
  5. Another "Mr. Pegula" fanboi who doesn't like hearing the truth? But, no, there's no "smart guy/think tank" mathematical solution to the Sabres' problems. They have to be better. Ownership, GM, coach and players.
  6. I'll add to this. No one should get worked up in a negative way either. People would be advised to hold their powder (on either side of the coin) and wait 20 games or whatever and see if anything from the spring takes hold in the fall.
  7. Marvin's planting sage. Swamp? Right. I'm not sure where this discussion is supposed to go. It reminds me of my dad's scoring system to break 90 in golf. Four on par 3s, sixes on par 4s and 5s. Or something like that. Great. But he wasn't a good golfer and could never do it. He never practiced as far as I can remember.
  8. No shame. You got had by one of the best.
  9. He got the Sabres going?
  10. William Mattar named assistant coach. #suckitbrawndo
  11. I get it. He's Eye-talian.
  12. I know. That's why I mentioned the future crime.
  13. Except that according to the lawsuit they're not the same things. That's the rush to judgment I am warning against. It's an ink blot test and people see what they want. You can expect a nerdy little Latin insult from Smell.
  14. What "it" is is pretty important to the discussion. The reaction here has largely assumed that "it" is one thing. And that "it" was so horrific the Hawks should have done x, y and z and prevented a future crime.
  15. I'm the only one not assuming and not trying to twist facts to suit a theory. Do any of you know what the lawsuit by John Doe (Hawks player) alleges? Or, like the url in the Rich Gaentzler "scandal," is a thread title on SabreSpace enough evidence?
  16. Shiver me timbers! Jack Fookin Eichel in the East!
  17. All these threads degenerate for one reason... there's pushback against assumptions and that above all can't be tolerated. Then comes moral outrage and "shut 'er down." No one has any idea whether something happened and where it lies on the assault spectrum if it did.
  18. This week then? Or still next week?
  19. I get paid by the troll accusation.
  20. And according to the link LGR posted the player reported it as "abuse." More info. is needed. Does it end up being on one far end of the assault spectrum? Right. NHL player vs. video coach. The story's not fully told, I suspect.
  21. Doohickie suspected in Illinois assault.
  22. Eichel, I guess. But one is very likely overrated and the other very likely underrated, so the difference is smaller than most think. And I suspect other GMs know this, and the heads exploding after Eichel is traded is predictable.
