I keep seeing people saying this...... Why does he need to make a trade this week? is Leino or McCormick coming back this week? I am pretty sure Gringo has counted against the rostor limit since game 1 so I don't see why they need to sit him in game 6 to avoid losing someone

I think the biggest problem is what Tom was saying. Team speed. This team has been shedding team speed for the past 5 years in the name of puck possession, or being physical, or not being a midget, or whatever the fill in the blank thing we are lacking. The play that really stands out to me is Foligno being even with the Carolina defenders and not only being caught within 2 strides but also being stripped of the puck and Staal getting half a zone away from him with 3 more strides. Every game so far this season I see at least 3-5 transition rushes being caught by the back checkers. Now you may be asking why are you saying this in the Ruff's system thread drnkirishone? Because Ruff adapts his coaching schemes to his roster within reason. and for the past handful of seasons (since he did that asst coach thing for team canada) he has been using a puck possession game and I think they have been targeting players they thought would fit that (Leino). The problem IMO is that Ruff is at his best as a coach and teacher when his team is playing a counter punch type game (late 90's and coming out of the lockout). The lack of team speed on this roster emboldens teams to press the forecheck cause they know if they get caught up ice they will catch just about anyone that is a risk of scoring. Which in turn means our forwards have to hang back more to try and take the pressure off the defense, which in turn lets the other team get even bolder on there attack. This board has really been focused on the whole skill vs grit balance and I think the front office has been to this off season. But I think the bigger inbalance is the puck possession vs speed. Ideally I want some players with some grit and speed I think of Deadmarsh and Young from the Aves back in the mid 90s as my gold standard of grit/speed/skill

I want Ruff gone just so I can stop reading drane's posts about how Ruff ruins players and takes there balls home and displays them on the dresser........

IMO collecting ideas from all the sources you can is never a bad idea. That being said the most important person in this type of style is gonna be the person or the group of people that make the final call. Overall I think this style can and will work.

No they weren't. Stafford couldn't leave until Myers penality ended cause of Ott's. Ott'spenality didnt even start ticking until Staffords penality expired

its not up to the player to know if they can leave the box. the league has a offical in the boxes as I recall that tells them they can go.

Thats my point. I cant have a spare Defenseman, forward, and goalie. Let alone 2spare forwards. Seems low to me.
