  1. Pretty sure you're thinking of the Prospects Challenge which happens right before TC opens in September. Expect they'll still be doing that again. Last year IIRC there were 5 teams partaking.
  2. Not necessarily. If you just bridge Byram and you dump Samuelsson, you've got enough money for both. Now, to bring in Robertson, you'll need to dump both D-men. But it would cost Byram at this point as a starting point to bring him in so Bo would be gone anyhow.
  3. So, right now per puckpedia they've got just under $14MM of cap space with just Byram, Timmons, and Levi left to sign. Presuming Byram is still a Sabre this fall, depending upon length of his deal that would eat $6-8MM of that. Expect Levi will cost ~$2MM, maybe less, but for sake of argument, let's say $2MM. Timmons comes in at ~$1MM. Leaving them barring any other moves at $3-$5MM of space. If they could send Samuelsson out the door for picks, they'd have ~$7-9MM in space. Figure they'd want to keep $1-2MM to allow for a deadline acquisition. But having nearly $8MM available would still allow for a couple of good players to be brought in or 1 really good player to be brought it. Use that space, and the Sabres COULD be better than they were. Right now, they're probably better, but not materially on paper.
  4. The deadline for an ordinary course buy-out has passed (that window ended yesterday). But if the Sabres have at least 1 arbitration award, the window reopens brifefly after the last arbitration proceding completes. So, most likely, if the Sabres are planning on getting rid of him they'll have to trade him.
  5. The REALLY funny part of that photo is the guy on the right is only 6'2". Gerbe really is THAT short. 😉
  6. True. But that said ... Won't keep this kid from railing against the policy. The policy is just SOOOOOOO misguided. (And personally still believe there's a good chance that Levi will become what they need. But that it will happen THIS year is merely hope. And, hope AIN'T a plan. They need to widen the margin for error and this move BARELY moves the needle in the right direction on that metric. It DOES move the needle the right way, but so trivially, it almost doesn't even count.)
  7. He IS a good choice for a cheap backup. BUT ... The Sabres needed to upgrade their goaltending, and maybe UPL or Levi will play towards their ceiling and in the end they will have done so, but hope ain't a plan and replacing Reimer with Lyon ain't one either.
  8. Well, you could hit on 2 of those. And 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
  9. Sabres fans NEVER have a happy Canada Day. 😞 (Maybe it just seems that way, it's been so friggin' long.)
  10. He's a very good player. Ideally is the 3C but can play in the top 6 in a pinch. Kind of a really fast Jochen Hecht. Nice Swiss army knife to have. Glad he wants to be here.
  11. At least the guys who are here (and note, Peterka ain't here) do seem to actually want to be here. What a sad consolation on what used to be a very fun day.
  12. ONE piece of good news today FINALLY.
  13. Quite the logjam. But isn't Greenway pencilled into the top 9 at least until Byram returns a F for the top 6?
  14. Maybe the Sabres are planning on having a $1.5MM EBUG when they become a thing. Always forward thinking they are.
  15. Isn't that still like a 50% raise for him? A match made in heaven.
  16. Not the one I was looking for, but a reasonable example of one of their commercials.
  17. Nah, it still looks like Christmas, just at the Bender family. Relevant portion starts at 2:00. VERY NSFW due to language.
  18. Nice work, Jason. Now go wake up your boss.
  19. Same as it ever was, same as it ever was.
  20. And if Alex Tuch isn't saying "I want at least 1/2 of every $ you penny pinched to stay on this God forsaken team one day longer than I have to" well then we all should have lost some respect for him.
  21. Wow, that's 9 more than the Sabres have working on AHL deals and 10 more than they have working on NHL deals.
  22. He doesn't. But Karmonos is running up quite the phone bill doing HIS job. Wonder if his boss knows July 1 isn't a holiday on THIS side of the Niagara?
  23. But only until they check the fine print.
  24. He may be a Dickman, but he's R. Dickman.
  25. Well, it's good to see Karmanos is on the job today at least. Think he might decide to wake up his boss anytime soon?
