So far, every single person in twitter disagrees with these takes.

Waiting for them to convert my old license to a new one that supports the newer version. I forgot they are a 9-5 bunch now. Might have to wait until Fourth of July timeframe.

This is what I am thinking: https://www.twobillsdrive.com/community/clubs/ These clubs aren't all that active, but there's not a topic that drives it either. The idea of these clubs is that any member can start one (this group tends to use a single Topic like "Rod and Gun Club") and the type of club can be open to anyone, or approved membership, invite only, etc... So, if there were 10 liberals who wanted to get together and talk they would literally have their own self-moderated club (forum) to talk in. Or maybe someone could have something more inclusive. Whatever. It's not limited and we can try and see what works for everyone. This keeps the non sports-related political talk off the main board and out of people's faces who don't want to see it. It also allows those who have been asking for an outlet to do so easily.

I’m not even sure what you are saying here. I suggested someone make a quick visit to TSW to look at the club feature, not to hang out and discuss things.
-
I'll probably do it this weekend, and possibly even tonight. I know July 1 is coming up, but I have some time this weekend to hammer it out and answer support questions.
-
It is under-used. No one has really taken the time to use it to its fullest. I think that can happen here though.

If you go over to The Stadium Wall, the new software has a "clubs" feature that I think might work. Anyone can start a club and be their own moderator... Clubs can be open, closed, invite only, etc... That way we don't have to fuss with it.
-
Given that you know both boards, I'm thinking the clubs feature can be put to work here.

How would you like it handled? First, I think politics, as it intersects the world of sports (Buffalo sports in particular), is perfectly fine. Not sure what to do about the rest.... Constructive suggestions?

TRADE: Matt Hunwick and Conor Sheary to Buffalo per Friedman
SDS replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
I think we have a winner. -
Fonstad was passed on 127 times before he was taken, so it wasn't just the Sabres.

That was the account from the writers who left. I doubt TBN gave their full side of the story and any specific issues they had with any of them. I would say 60% of the story is known.

The other way to think about it is that it is an additional asset to make a trade for an NHL player this year.

This was a common joke in our beer league hockey locker room… I heard it from a 20 something

Could describe the team from the past few years… All Swedish, no Finnish.

If you could choose exactly what you wanted, tell me what you would want with the soccer jerseys. I assume you want matching jerseys so that children can form teams? Give me your ideal scenario. I don’t need the exact jerseys, but colors, number of jerseys in each color, sizes, etc.
-
Do you need straight cash or are item donations for such things like the soccer balls and jerseys welcome?

A little more thought into the situation would serve you better. The “clicks” are paying less and less. Sources of revenue are drying up and they are searching for a sustainable model.

If you want to read a passionate debate about the subject, Head on over to the stadium wall. Since the Buffalo blitz pay wall went up there has been a ton of debate. The new sports editor Josh Barnett has been very involved in the conversation. One thing that became clear is that there are people who claim they will never subscribe to Buffalo blitz as long as those two were employed. If you were the new guy who comes in and is charged with shoring up the sports department, you probably start looking around to see who is connecting with the community and who is not. In my experience, over the 20 years my websites have been around there has been a crushing majority of people who do not value those two columnists. It has always been this way as long as I remember.

Gleason’s tweet doesn’t pass the smell test. He is a local boy writing for his local paper for the last 20 years. If he wanted to move up in the journalism world he would have bolted long ago.

Sullivan has been covering buffalo sports for 28 years. I think Bucky has been covering them for 20 years. I guess the question is, given the nature of the business, does their body of work support such longevity in one place? Even if they are not bad writers, are they hall of fame type writers that should sit atop the throne of buffalo sports opinion? At some point, I think, an editor needs to decide if you are a treasure to be kept or a voice that needs to be freshened. I don’t think the Buffalo sports readership regards either of these two writers as local treasures.

Vogl is not like the other two. The news certainly wanted to keep him. He was not targeted for these buyouts, but saw the opportunity to be paid to leave. That is an opportunity that is not presented to a lot of people. The other two built up a level of animosity in their readership that was never going to be overcome.
