  1. Past hour
  2. I guess the follow-up question would be, did Adams try and get JBD signed before a decision on a qualifying offer had to be made? If he did and there was no interest in extending, then I can see the logic. If no attempt was made to get him on a 1-2 year deal at $900-950 K, then I think it was a mistake. Fatal? Of course not. I would rather have JBD as the #7 than Bryson (right shot, bigger, 3 years younger, higher pedigree).
  3. I can agree to this. But JBD being the 8 was Adams spitballing because they acquired Kesserling and Timmons and Adams already committed money to his boy Bryson. I have high hopes for Kesserling.
  4. it does put them over the cap by $2.5M. They waived Nick Leddy, who makes approximately the same amount, in order to create space.
  5. I think JBD was let go with Adams believing he could get an equal or better player at the same price with no risk of arbitration. Jones ended up being that guy. We'll see if he's right.
  6. IF they finally have found a partner for Power that makes that what we'd hope the pairing should be, then yes, Bernard-Docker being gone is a nothing burger. But, if, once again, they've failed to find Power's partner, it's a huge error. Because Power and JBD played well together. Time will tell. Hoping Adams and Wilford are right. And honestly, am FAR less interested in what he does in Detroit as what Power does with Kesselring &/or Timmons.
  7. Adam’s called him an 8, so he was slotted behind (4) Kesserling, (5) Muel, (6) Timmons, and (7) Bryson. I think Jones was signed after JBD was let go. Last season there were several people on this board that liked JBD as the 4 playing with Power. Some thought he could be the surprise of the Cozens-Norris trade, remember? We shall see soon enough what he does in Detroit. I don’t see any point in worrying about him being gone.
  8. Yep. Hope for the best. But believe they'll actually spend to/near the cap when they actually do so. And not a minute sooner.
  9. As far as the saving/creating cap space in order to deal with the Byram situation I'm not going to let my skepticism about Adams blind me to the fact that keeping enough flexibility in order to deal with whatever may come is actually a prudent course of action. The more I parse through the variables there in terms of offer sheets and trade packages, it's pretty easy to see the wisdom. Where the BS meter kicks in to overdrive is the fact that chances are good they won't trade Bo for a $12M cap hit return. And what if the return only carries a $6M hit? Does anyone think they will use the rest of their space to further improve the roster? Adams has set himself up smartly under the cap, but it's not the first time he's done that. And every time before this he has failed to use the space his manoeuvring has created to its full advantage. I'll believe this time will be different when I actually see it.
  10. I'm just looking at a way for them to lose cap space and get Bynam and way for them to sign him. Let me ask would you trade Bynam and Kulich or Helenius for Thomas? I'm just talking hypothetical as doubt Adams would do it.
  11. So you’re saying 2 years a $4 million second day signing doesn’t free up their top guys? He’s a nice addition, but that contract screams filler.
  12. I really think you guys are missing the crux of the JBD discussion. Adams called him an 8 and treated him like he's an 8. If JBD is just that — another in a long collection of Adams blueline tweeners — he made the right call. If he is a clear step above Bryson, Johnson and Jones and a serviceable #6D, then the board is right and Adams ***** up. It's not really about anything other than player evaluation.
  13. I think you know what I mean. It's definitely been much longer than the Pegula ownership. You're even admitting we have to be pretty old to remember that. I'm 50 and it's been a long time.
  14. It is. But literally LG, we have nothing else, at least in my humbled opinion. I don’t like it, but no one is coming here, and after watching many videos on him, ya, offensively, he’s the most naturally ready. I hate saying it, but hell LG, at this point, why not give him 8 games?
  15. There's no chance in hell St Louis offers to Thomas because they singed Suter. That's a 3rd line center.
  16. Konsta Helenius? He's not even remotely ready for the NHL. That's nuts.
  17. Great insight on this post. Well done. i know I’m going to be feathered on this one, but our fin rookie. He looks ready.
  18. Today
  19. Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou both earn $8m per season. Kyrou been talked about a lot this off-season but if I'm the Sabres I'd push for Thomas as he plays C and the Blues have Schenn and Suter who can play C at a top 6 spot. Yet both have NYC so we'd have to convince them to come here.
  20. I don't think Calgary or LA are our trade partners, I still think Blues with Kyrou or Vegas that has too many forwards and would ship us 2 just for cap relief. Hell I would say to people telling me what would you want out of Vegas for Byram ? Dorofoyev + 1st round pick + Pietrangelo 50% retained (probably not possible seeing he is injured ? ) or Dorofoyev + Whitecloud Dorofoyev + Karllson + 2nd round pick for Byram.
  21. I don't really care what he has to say any longer, show us the baby or gtfo.
  22. LaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLaLa LaFontaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiine.
  23. But then still able to trade him after the year. There are worse options out there.
  24. I hope so if he signs elsewhere 🤣
  25. The concern comes with an offer sheet of 2 years. Big salary and no UFA years bought.
  26. You can't keep the janitor because it's not comparable. Like not even a little bit.
