we have 13 forwards not counting Kozak, 7 defenders and 3 goalies. That's 23. They need to make a spot if Kozak plays.

At some point, you are going to have to let this go. Some of us got caught up on the moment as the Sabres finally resembled an NHL with camaraderie, toughness and sticking up for one another. It was difficult to figure out why as they only added a few new players so Geertsen was attributed as having an impact. Clearly, it’s something else. Hard to say if it was the addition of Doan and Kesselring (who hadn’t played when this revelation occurred) or something we as fans aren’t privy to. This years team is drastically different. Maybe removing guys who went above and beyond to avoid team toughness exercises, like Peterka. Hard to say exactly what did it but things are different now. That being said, a week from now they’ll probably get bullied by another team and we all tuck our tails between our legs.

I dunno - the lineup said "Projected Lineup" not "practice lines".

Funny how Quinn is the only nightmare you singled out ... Tuch, Thompson, and Dahlin are all on that list twice. But you also say Quinn was on the ice for two and list him three times. (shrug)

Dunne’s foot speed is an issue. He’s was caught on two breakaways before he hit center ice while on the Amerks. It’s going to cost the Sabre defensively at some point.

Guys can practice while on IR. Just because they lined up that way in practice doesn't mean he's on the roster. He was put on IR. They had to put Zucker on IR before Tuesdays game just to call up Östlund. So they either need to send someone back down or (I hope) waive Geersten.

That would be a Granato move.

Making a determination on UPL’s status with the team is a more important consideration than determining what Ellis’s role is, of course if it is believed that both goalies give you the same chance to succeed in tonight’s game. If Ellis ends on waivers and picked up, then so be it. It shouldn’t be forgotten that Levi is still in the system and can be moved up when the need arises.

The butterfly kisses @LGR4GM quoted above have him in the lineup and Brawndo has not posted about a roster move ...

They really need to give Ellis another start, this seemed like the perfect spot. But I think UPL played well enough on Sat to earn the start tonight.

I know UPL said he's starting. I would have bet money Ellis would get the start tonight.

Ruff felt he needed a goon around. But players like Dunne and Greenway, even Krebs are showing the same willingness to throw down.

Well according to google we also tied the league record... it did not mention that we were already tied for the league record... So good to know.

My personal opinion is neither one is an aberration but neither one is who they are. They are a combination of both. They are a team that is just outside of the playoffs. They are a combination of three games that they were at the start of the season with the better team that they've been since. Now when they get some injured players back, let's see if they can improve on that.

Kozak can't play tonight without a corresponding roster move right? Please be the day we FINALLY waive Geersten. Blues lost 6-1 last night and gave Ovi his 900th goal down here in DC. If we can't win this game, even with a depleted roster I dunno. Also tonight is a Goathead night. Go Sabres!

It sort of depends on where you slice the pie. 5-1-4 over the last 10 games is great. 1-0-4 over the last 5 is not so good. On balance, things have been encouraging after the 0-3 start. I think goaltending has been good to very good in all but 2 games. They seem like a more mature group than the last two years. Hopefully Benson, Zucker, and Danforth are all back soon and we will get a closer look at what the near full line-up looks like.

This can't be! I was told that Geertsen matters and that his toughness was a reason others were tough now. He's the engine of the team! The engine! Seriously, Ruff needs to waive him.

Sabres are 5-1-4 in the last ten, which is 0.700 points%. That's playoff pace every year, even 0.600 is solid for the playoffs. People can complain about OT losses all they want, but the Sabres could play 5-1-4 or 4-2-4 hockey all season and be pretty safe for the playoffs. It remains to be seen if the last ten or the first three are the aberration. The Sabres have never been afraid run to a zero-for-a-month streak.
