Samuelson has trade value. But only if you retain. Some GMs would like his size at $2M. But for the Sabres it’d be better for the cap to buyout than retain. That said, he’s still only 24 and could round into a serviceable D-man if he could reach his rookie level of play again.

Well aware of what side of the ice Rasmus Dahlin likes. I don't think Miller would be great as his partner.

Ok, well that's his projected salary on a 6year deal in 2 different places give or take 200k.

We’ll see. If he does garner that amount, I’m sure it won’t be here.

Any team that trades for Miller will be doing so because they see him as a 1st or 2nd paid d-man. So, a $6 million AAV won’t be out of line (it might be an overpay for what he is, but it won’t be an overpay for what the team thinks they are trading for).  For the Sabres, assuming Byram is good as gone, then Miller would either slot beside Dahlin or Power; unless they put Dahlin and Power together (which typically has worked well, I think) and put a right shot d-man with Miller. B-Docker might fit better with Miller than with Power.

If Miller is brought in and Byram is dealt, then another solid 3/4 defenseman needs to be added. If that doesn’t happen, there will be a regression to a unit that can’t afford to slide back.

I know this will be a contrarian view but I have no problem keeping Samuelson. I do expect him to improve his play. How much? Can’t say.

So now you conservatively have Dahlin at 11 whatever, Samuelsson at 4.3, Power at 8.3, Miller at let's say 6.

That's 4 lhd for 30 million roughly. As I said, unless you can jettison Samuelsson, this doesn't make sense. And you still have to trade Byram.

If we add Miller than Samuelsson has to go not necessarily in the same deal.

“Rangers Reportedly in 'Advanced Discussions' on Chris Kreider Trade with Ducks”

Would this be more of a cap dump situation for the rangers?

Most likely - they got his 15 team no-trade and made some calls.

He wants warm winters, beaches, and palm trees to close out his career.

If it was Samullsen for Miller id be all over it, two strugglingish young dmen needing a change of scenery

I do still think Samulssen ends up in Philly where his dad is, but id swap him for Miller all day, Miller would look real good next to Dahlin

then just have to us 9 and prospects to get Owens partner, and you pay whatever you have to to get the right person there, like Kesserling
