PASabreFan
Just like Rick once said, you could knock me over with a feather right now. I happened upon his Wikipedia entry and a nugget about his calling AHL Bisons games in 1969-70, road games only. The Bisons won the Calder Trophy that season, their last in the AHL as they stepped aside for the Sabres. They beat Springfield in the final four games to none, and the Bisons had home ice, so Game 4 was on the road. Rick confirms that he called the game toward the end of his radio appearance with Brian Duff and Dunleavy, linked below. A caller told Rick he remembered the moment. Why have we never heard Rick's championship moment? Is it lost to history? What did it sound like? Surely someone somewhere has a recording of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Jeanneret#cite_note-6 http://audio.wgr550.com/a/79188273/8-8-hour-1-rick-jeanneret-and-dan-dunleavy-discuss-their-futures-with-the-sabres.htm

PASabreFan
Yeah, and didn't the Bills win the AFL championship a few times ......... Sure. I think Van must have been doing those games. And I've never heard one of those calls either!
Buffano DeBoom
Sure. I think Van must have been doing those games. And I've never heard one of those calls either! I have the audio from the Bills 65 Championship. Its been a long time since I heard it, but I don't think Van did the play by play. George Ratterman, QB of the first Bills team in the 1940s AAFC, did the color work.

Andrew Amerk
I'm sure someone, somewhere, has a copy of that tape. Someone could make an indie flick about trying to hunt it down.
PromoTheRobot
I don't know why the Sabres don't honor the surviving Bisons from that '69 team. I've made that suggestion. PTR

That would be awesome. You'd think Rick might have a recording. I don't think he's on social media anywhere to ask. I can't even find out what station broadcast those games. Maybe they'd have it in their archives.
PASabreFan
Bisons games were on WEBR in 1954. FWIW. http://www.staffannouncer.com/xmas54radiotv.htm

PTR Guy Trottier was better than most of the present Sabre players.
