  1. I think this has become commonly received wisdom after it became clear that Krebs would not pan out as a top-6 NHL forward. For my part, I don't see it. Or, at least, I don't see much (enough) of it.
  2. Bro - what? I don't gamble (outside of stuff like fantasy football and March Madness brackets) so I must ask: What in fresh hell is this?! It's gambling ... but it's not? These entities are getting access to the league's proprietary data?! I'm probably just naive and uninformed here, but this seems shady as hell.
  3. I want to see them get another WR1. That said, I think this take is somewhat overblown. Joe Brady bears significant responsibility for receivers not getting open. On a week to week basis, there are coordinators in the league who more regularly get guys open even when they don't have much to work with. In some weeks, Joe Brady is among those coordinators! He needs to have better strategies and better game scripts based on who the opponent is. The Atlanta defensive coaches ate his lunch.
  4. Agreed. I'll cop to mixed emotions re the Nordiques. I still like to think that QC will get an NHL franchise somehow.
  5. ⬇️ I think this is precisely it. This also. Mittelstadt did pretty well in Granato's brand of firewagon hockey. Those were fun games. It was not a style of hockey that was going to get the Sabres into (or maybe, if they'd had better luck, past the first round of) the playoffs. Like a lot of players this franchise has relied on, he's a bit of a dangler and a floater. Dynamic hands, for sure ("sick Mitts!"). But he doesn't play a hard game, he isn't "greasy."
  6. Lyon?! Huh. Well, I say go for it! The only Sabres jersey I own is one my wife arranged to buy through the Sabres Alumni Association (now defunct?) many years ago. She dealt with Larry Playfair, whom she said was a very sweet guy. Anyway, it's a white field #11. Signed by the man himself (not at the time of purchase - but at the arena during a wearing). There are about 8 separate (fairly small) food stains on the thing. I can't bear to wash it because I don't want Gilbert's signature to fade.
  7. I like the idea of trading Power. And I'm not all that down on the player. I recognize that he has flaws, naturally. My concern: It's so difficult to make a "hockey trade" once the season starts.
  8. I'd think the Sabres have a 1 in 5 chance of making the playoffs while the Bills have roughly a 2 in 3 chance of making the playoffs. How does that get quantified? Is it just 2/15? A little over 13%? That sounds about right.
  9. I do recall Rempe laughing at Geersten. If they had mic's on the ice, you know the chirps would have been directed to Geersten's inability to play effectively in the AHL let alone in the NHL.
  10. over the years, i've had a few "i will take a sh1t in my backyard if _______". these have been very amusing for the fellas. i've yet to have to deliver on one. if the sabres can keep their form together (a big if), i might end up in backyard-pooping territory.
  11. i'll sh1t in my hat if that happens.
  12. a marginal AHL guy to boot. i love the Val James story. and i enjoyed it when the Sabres brought him up to fight Terry O'Reilly. but those days are long gone. if Geersten can't passably play NHL hockey, he should not be on the roster. full stop.
  13. As much as anything, Ruff insisting that the team sign Geersten and Ruff's subsequent insistence on dressing him for most games has made me question whether Lindy's time has come (and gone). Such a brutal personnel move. Based on their laughing dismissal of him, Rempe agrees and so does Zadorov.
  14. there are mistakes -- and then there's rostering an ECHL-skill-level meathead who other teams' tough guys mostly laugh at. when the guy dresses, the Sabres functionally lack a 4th line.
  15. He might feel like Audette-value to you? But those are extremely different players.
  16. this made me chuckle. i'm just saying: indisputably top-6 NHL forward declines to re-sign with (hometown) team ... that would suck.
  17. even without two (or more?) of their star players, the Panthers will almost certainly sh1t pump the Sabres with their trademark relentless and heavy style of play.
  18. I'm not quite that old but I crossed paths with Dan several times during his post-football days (when he was a lawyer in private practice). RIP.
  19. Christ. Losing Tuch for a discounted, in-season trade return would be such a stomach punch. Strike that, actually. It would be a forceful steel-toe boot kick in the ribs. A stomach punch would suggest that, as a hockey fan, I'm still standing. I'm not. I'm more laying on the ground in a vaguely fetal position. I would not blame the guy one bit for not re-signing here.
  20. Dude's being asked to do too much. It feels like a familiar story from the Sabres over the past ~15+ years. Third liners being asked to be second or even first liners, third pairing or 7-D being asked to be a second pairing guy.
