  1. I dunno. Crosby seems to fit the bill. I'm not sure it's a matter of tallying up MVPs. I once heard you could get a girl pregnant by french kissing with her when she's wearing only a bathing suit. Of those players/prospects, I think only McDavid gets to wear the label.
  2. Caps digital media team KILLING it after the Game 6 victory. https://www.facebook.com/Capitals/videos/10155595684336762/?permPage=1
  3. I’d say “yes.” And the only player/prospect since has been McDavid (?).
  4. Whodat? I reckon that a talent that comes along once every 10-15 years (or so) is all that should qualify. OTOH, Gretzky and Lemieux were born just 4 years apart. Interesting that these two were born 10 years apart.
  5. Also: With Pronman's nerdy words of caution in mind, I am OH-ficially off the "generational" hype train. I'll instead accept the projection of a clear #1 d-man on a Cup-contending team. And I'm asking: How many d-men like that have the Sabres had in their history? Damn few, if any.
  6. ^ Ya, but he *is* leaving. Voluntarily.
  7. ^ As the video suggests, Robert Plant is a Cornell predecessor. And while different, we can always put Mercury in the same rarified air.
  8. Same. And it's helpful for me to hear a sober dude like Pronman say he sees his projecting as a future NHL star, but not some sort of generational stud (a la Potvin). I'm perfectly fine with the former. Good info and points.
  9. Hedman and Doughty as near-comparables (i.e., Dahlin projects a bit better than both). Yes. Please. Also interesting that Pronman pumps the tires on the generational talk. I'm good with that. .58. This appears to suggest that Dahlin would post ~20-25 points as a rookie d-man.
  10. ^ Yah - that makes total sense. The divide, I think, arises from the fact that my Twitter life is just about 100% anonymous and non-IRL. But for someone 10-15 years younger than me who's got his name and face attached to his account, I think that'd be a quite different experience. I read his nhl.com content and follow him on Twitter -- he's the real deal.
  11. One funny thing about Yerdon (or maybe it's more something that's funny about Twitter to an Old like me): After I first started following him, I liked so many of his Tweets that the Twitter algorithm wound up populating my TL with other of his unrelated activity. And it always seemed to be him replying to a Tweet by some attractive young woman -- with whom he was presumably Twitter friends (and/or maybe IRL friends). Anyway -- it made an Old, like me, be like: "Joe. So thirsty." The more I think about it, the more this is really just a reflection of the fact that I am an Old.
  12. Ha - that is a good one. Not heard it before. Who's presenting themselves as an expert? I'm not, just to be clear. I'm presenting myself as a moderately informed fan with no credentials or bona fides to judge hockey talent, who is super excited about a prospect who looks like he's going to be amazing -- maybe, maybe -- some day -- the best d-man the team has ever had.
  13. I'm not so sure. Yerdon would be a good fit.
  14. Speaking of proper country, and yeah it's fairly "roots" as well, this gal has made her way onto my radar in a big way:
  15. Maybe starting off with “Incognito is an incurable a*shole.”
  16. Circa 1970: “Psssshhh. *Beliveau*. Gimme a break! This frog hasn’t even played a day in the league, and neither has the team!”
  17. Thought project: What would Dahlin pooh-poohers have said about the wheel landing on fabled #11 and the Sabres winning the right to select that Quebecois horse who was drawing comparisons to Beliveau?
  18. Fek that guy. (And I just deleted something super nasty about him.)
  19. Wait, wait, wait. Just STOP. Full stop with the Grigorenko parallel. If that’s what’s happening. I’m not sure. That was recent. Attentive fans were intrigued by the possibilities associated with a talented but enigmatic (read: lazy) Russian with a checkered junior career, whose stock fell in the draft. Dahlin is widely, universally, reputed to be a generational prospect on D. Get it right.
  20. Huh? JESUS, guys. JESUS. I’m telling you, man. If you see that kid’s film and don’t feel a bit giddy, I’m just not sure what to say to you. Grigorenko. FFS. p.s. The giddiness is no assurance of NHL success and of Dahlin fulfilling his promise. But so what?!
  21. I missed that until Taro pointed it out. I said a while back that how you're responding to Dahlin as a prospect -- or to those GIFs above, specifically -- is something of a rorschach test. If you see that sort of play and think along the lines of "meh - I'll believe it when I see it in the big show", then that's just how and what you are, as a person. Other reasonable people can watch those highlights and, proverbially, feel it move. And there are probably other levels of reaction, too, distributed on a continuum between the two extremes. I am plotted on a line close to the HFS, can you fooking believe how good this guy looks?! cohort. I can't wait to see the kid play in a Sabres uniform.
